For those of you who didn't know, our tournament happened today, and JUST ended with some really cool matches. We'd like to also take a bit of this thread to congratulate the finalists, with ST_KingKong coming first, PiG second, and Yekke and IrisPetraeus coming 3rd and 4th.
Of course, I'd like to share some success and some conflicts that we have had in our first go at organizing this tournament. To begin with, our admin team, EveRekanise, EveJaFF, EveSnow, and EveStitch, has been planning this tournament for well over a month with PokerStrategy.com. We cannot express how relieved we are to finally have it run today and to see quite a positive response from everyone. We had well over 25+ players who did not show up, but yet another 20 signed up the midnight before our tournament. The night before we were not featured on TL or SC2SEA, and suddenly we got the admin on TL and Nirvana to save us from that problem. Honestly, one of the hardest things was the streaming. For those of you that did tune in, our streaming service was not from either casters. It was provided by EveSnow (who deserves a honorable mention) for setting up a HQ Stream as Obs today to run everything. We had to set this up 3 weeks prior to launch, and I'm glad to say we saw a lot of positive feedback on the stream quality.
Lastly, of course we'd like to share some of our achievements from today. At the first hour or so, we only had around 100 viewers, towards the middle we got up to 300-400, and in the finals we reached a peak of 513 viewers between PiG and KingKong. It was funny how a lot of viewers suddenly dropped when they heard the SemiFinals & the Finals would be all ZvZ's, but we managed to bring it back up. I'm not sure how many of you were watching, but I hope we provided you a good experience.
Then now to some of the challenges we had to face...
One of the main challenges for us were that Team Eve was never designed to be a group of guys who organized tournaments. We have never done it, and we don't have people in this group who have done something of this sort. We had to learn how to use TL, sc2sea, Twitch and all sorts of things to make today work. In addition to that, we had to research on how to give our viewers a comfortable viewing experience, minimizing our breaks to less than 15 minutes.
Secondly, a big challenge, but yet another great success was the casting archon between Stitch and Flamga. Hopefully surprising, this was the first time they cooperated with each other. We are very pleased to have Flamga come in and cast with us, as he did help the tournament run as smooth as it did.
Of course there are lots to say, but we'd like to cut it short here and leave the rest of the feedback/comments on all of you guys who had a chance to take a look at the future potential of Eve!
On behalf of Team Eve, we are very glad and proud to have contributed to this server for the first time, in a way that we'd never imagine to do so. So please keep supporting us in our future events and tournaments!
Overall you guys did a really good job. Thanks for having a well run tournament and especially to casters etc who were casting a long time. Grats on the winners for their performance.
Only slight criticism I have is personally I'd wish the observer would leave the camera alone during engagements. The excitement builds towards a big fight but then suddenly the camera zooms around and I have to watch it at some weird angle. Strictly speaking it might offer slightly more vision than the default angle, but I've never had a problem with seeing stuff when I'm actually playing.
Just ruins the immersion a little imo.
Edit (Rep response): Simply my opinion, others might love it. You did ask for feedback

All the games were fun to cast, and as for Snow and the obs, I believe it was his first time so if he keeps at managing the stream itll be awesome in that respect. Minor hiccups with overlays not changing but they werent as bad as mine :P
But the admins were awesome, and kept it all running, it never seemed like it was your first time organising it!! And thanks for the opportunity to cast with Stitch as well was good fun for the first time.
If I think of anything else though I will be sure to post it up
overall I think a great event and was well run one think i think could be improved and is a little thing is just make the brackets once. overall cool tho
Unfortunately I was unable to view most of the event but from the parts I tuned in as well as looking at the event progression your extensive planning and preparation obviously showed as it was a smooth event!
The one thing I will say is make sure you literally write down every piece of feedback whether you agree with it or not. It's up to you whether you take action on certain feedback but recording it is important. That way when planning the next event you can look at the document to see what to improve on but also arguably more importantly at the completion of the next event you can look back and see if you successfully achieved a better outcome
Yeah. One thing I really want to clarify as Stallion has talked about it - is the brackets.
Reason why we were constantly changing the brackets before actually publishing was the fact that we had a lot of people pulling out last minute (almost 5) and there were replacements (about 18) people asking us last minute if they could join. It was a mistake on our part, an even trying to replace those who left, we still had over 15 people being walkovered in the first round. We really wanted each player to have a match in the first round instead of walkovering all of them. Hope this is understandable from everyones' side. We also tried to implement no teammate snipes early on, but we couldn't fit everyones' needs. I realize that this is a problem, and in the future we will be more strict with sign-ups rules. Thanks for the feedback, and keep it going!

Thats actually really cool trying not to make team mate snipes as i seem to get it in every other tournament :P
Awesome tournament, awesome sponsor in Pokerstrategy. I think they're really smart in sponsoring RTS as a lot of the best SC2 players are poker pros or at least find it to be a very interesting game. Just off the top of my head: Mafia, Strafe, Bielsko, YoonYJ have all played professional poker and won significant prizemoney. I know a bunch of other players that are really good without having ever gone pro! I love having a $20 buyin with mates as I'm sure many sc2 fans do. Obviously being the sponsor of the last TSL they are a seriously cool organisation.
Some advice from Dot is that Flamga and Stitch had very different styles of commentary. Flamga is a bit more laid-back whilst Stitch is extremely excited and "OMG!" the entire cast. She said that this was actually probly you guys strong point (I agree). Its nice to have 2 casters that have very polarized roles it creates interest not just in the game but also in the ways of viewing what is going on. What you guys could work on though is not talking over each other. Husky used to have alot of trouble with this but has improved drammatically.
I know some casters actually discuss how to know when one caster should stop and let the other start up. Alternatively maybe if you're both just conscious to try to figure out what you're thinking before you say it and just generally casting together more and get to know each other. Play some 2v2s or something so you guys can get to know each other personally a little and then the professional chemistry will flow alot better!
As for the running of the tournament... My only advice would be choose a less cold day lol! It was freezing cold strong winds coming through all day in Sydney and it was hell trying to keep my room warm so my hands didn't freeze without turning it into a muggy hellhole.
Obviously something you guys cant fix! :P Honestly though it ran pretty smooth. There was some waiting but with any tournament you can't avoid that. Most of all I'm impressed by the profesionalism you guys put in with your preparation and was impressed with the stream quality. You should ask Gunrun to get you a quality-choice thing on the stream though so people with slow connections can tune in.
Gunna go experiment with my $50 poker credit now!
Edit: Re-read it and wanted to emphasize that the excitement Stitch brings is friggin awesome and I think it's something SEA really needs more of!
Yeah pokerstretegy's support of e-sport actually made me sign up and do their test thing was going to give it a shot ^^
But I live in Korea where its illegal so no dice
Lately I have been trying to send messages to sponsors that support e-sports to thank them to try and counteract the damage done by the witch hunt wankers :P
Not really on topic but PiG's post made me want to mention it ^^
Although it was by relatively new organizers, it didn't feel like it and I thought the tournament was fantastic and well run. You guys must have spent a quite lot of time preparing and it showed.
As for the brackets I agree with what stally said. It should only be generated once, so probably 5 minutes before the tournament starts instead of the prior night. This is so all the late/midnight signups get in and you can remove people who cant make it - there's also no point generating it any earlier. Also, seedings would be great.
Anyway I'm looking forward to many more Eve Cups to come, nice job guys.
As a player, I really loved how informative the admins were in chat. It's rare that we don't need to ask around on who to report to, and links for brackets etc.
IMO, one of the most enjoyable tournaments I've joined even though I lost first round
Firstly thankyou for the feedback, its appreciated and honestly too kind considering it was our first time casting together ever, and even actually being able to voice chat! That being said we have wanted to cast togehter for ages and I must say Stitch made it the most enjoyable cast I have ever done with another person!
That being said being our first together just throw any suggestions for improvement, im sure that we will be able to cast more in the future (I hope >.<) and the more that we can work on the better we can get. Also I like the 2's idea seems like the SEA and NA ladders are gonna get up pretty hard, hopefully :P
I'd like to mention that pig has just really been awesome. He went around bumping up our threads on TL and sc2sea to give us more views and to just support e-sports in SEA on the whole. He has been very supportive the entire time and is just the most genuine and nicest guy.
Also Stitch has had to manage a lot of the tournament nitty gritty because he has a little bit of know how so a lot of credit should really go to him! I dont know how he managed to carry so many different roles and still cast!
