So the new teaser for the HOTS Protoss unit is here!

(hot off the press!)

I presume that it will be a late game unit as the two other teasers do not look to be Tier 1 units.

So what do you think it will be and what role does it take to compliment the Protoss army?

Mmmm, Protoss have a pretty good air force already,

The wings make it look like it could be a 'air caster' type unit since Protoss have a pretty good airforce already.

I was thinking it's air too, but what if it's something like the sentry. but it looks a lot like an air unit.

The structure effects looke like it might work like a more souped up phoenix, which would be sad, cause they might be forced to remove the phoenix, and it was one of the better new units.

Or hey, it could be a protoss mule.

I think that it'll be an 'earlyish' game air to ground harrass unit, fast moving, probably decent damage to light units, to give toss a bit more of a harrassing option besides getting 4 Phoenix or warping in all over the place with a warp prism.
I believe Blizzard said somewhere that they believe Toss need a unit like that.

I don't think it's air because Protoss has enough air already. I think the "wings" are actually arms, and the unit walks on the ground rather than flies. It could be a Protoss Hellion type sort of thing.

its a collosus interceptor that flies in and out of the collosus head which only attacks air.

I actually thought it looked like a corsair.

I will put my money on some kind of air (because it looks like it) harass unit. Bowler has said many times that he thought toss was was lacking in early game harass when questioned about balance and I suspect this is what it will be.Though having said that it will have to be more early game then say a phoniex so not sure how that will balance out...

well.. earlier than Phoenix cause you need alot of phoenix to effectively harass... but still.. stargate tech harras.. :-(
Not a fan of stargate tech personally.. maybe this unit will have more protoss users going for stargate tech tho... It seems all Blizzard patches and what not are just about making the things that no one uses better.. and the things everyone uses worse...

My guess is a fleet beacon spell caster its the only thing that would work in a stargate sense because corsair is too similar to pheonix and they don't want a unit that will make another unit less used

The new Protoss Drone! it works like a mule. They can warp in a Toss Drone (from the nexus) over a mineral patch and nothing else can mine form it. However the TossDrone doesnt have to make the trip back to the base. It just warps the minerals back to base! but it only lasts so long.

The phoenix can still be put out fairly early for harass with the shorter build time. I hope they don't replace them as they are a pretty cool unit now.

From the picture the central energy part makes me think of flying caster but who know it may be a hovercraft type tank for all we know !

It could be like the sentry.. Just a hovering unit, hence why it looks like an air unit? Maybe its got an energy ball in its "arms" that doesnt get shown by the silhouette?

Have you guys not seen Toy Story? The Claw is the first obvious clue here.

Now when you consider the associated concept, it's quite clear that Pudge/Devourer is the new Protoss unit in Heart of the Swarm! Protoss will be able to grapple your key tech units and drag them behind enemy lines where they can be crushed helplessly.

Nailed it.

The image on the left is some creative person's artistic impression. The one on the right is a soulhunter from the alpha (first unit in the video):

I think the lazer/ lightening weapon looks suspiciously similar for both units. The soulhunters ride on these scooter looking vehicles - so maybe this one just hovers and maybe works like a reaper or something. Its all a big guess though.

If I recall correctly, Diamondback's were in the alpha as well, they just never made it into multiplayer. Either that or I'm mixing them up with another unit.

Still remember watching a video where Thor's were built by SCVs.

The more I look at it the more I think it isn't a air unit. I think the hover tank thingie looks more of a possibility for harrassing and it does make sense as Protoss has already a strong airforce so they wouldn't want to double up, ie the Phoenix can pretty much harrass from the air already.

Seriously though, I get spanked by most protoss armys after they get 140+supply and I even play on easy mode (terran).
