Hey guys i was just wondering if i can not buy heart of the swarm and still play against people who have bought heart of the swarm with my normal starcraft wings of liberty. As isn't heart of the swarm only adding the zerg campaign onto the game?
Wings of Liberty and Heart of the Swarm will have separate ladders. Meaning players who only own WoL cannot play with players on HotS on the ladder. Obvious reasons include new units.
1) HoTs will have a separate ladder. If you both of you log on to liberty, then you can play together, but you cant play with someone on a HoTs client on your liberty client.
2) No there are multiplayer units being added, and some are being removed or reworked. So it isnt only the campaign.
i was wondering earlier if it will be easy or not to get hots for my TW account but im guessing we will just need more of the online credit things we used to buy the game.
I don't see why you would still play WoL once HotS come out. Like yeah not everyone will have HotS right when it comes out, but in time I'm sure everyone will convert.
If you compare the Starcraft series to an entirely series such as Age of Empires, for instance, people may not choose to convert to the expansions - ever.. depending on its inception into the community. Of course, as Starcraft is millions of times better than the Age of Empires franchise, it is unlikely the same outcome will occur but it is a possibility.
Also, some people will probably just wait for Legacy of the Void. Some people just don't want to waste money on expansions, so just get the end product.

If there is a seperate ladder for HotS then it will be easier to get in grandmaster in WoL as most (most likely all) the best players will go to HotS. Unless Blizzard lock the ladder or something for WoL
so new ladder then...first 5-6 weeks of new HOTS ladder will be wild in terms of matchmaking
Yeah, it's going to be awesome, getting kicked by grandmasters . But it wont be as amazing as the first day of sc2 WoL laddering, I dont think we'll ever see a literal 6 pool build lol.

Atleast in their release they said they would continue to support independant ladders for WoL and HoTS like sc andsc:bw, and also continue patch WoL. but then how many people would actually be playing WoL alone..dont know about that.

I'm really looking forward to seeing how the community moves around - people will try HoTS and then decide based on two factors:
1) The ease of matchmaking/size of pool of people
2) The set of units they prefer playing with
Seeing how the traffic volumes evolve would be really interesting. If WoL stays popular it would suggest the the new unit compositions are really unpopular for example.
A lot of the units missing in WoL are very popular though, personally i think that HotS will be much more popular, but as has been mentioned before, it will take time. The communities and competitions need time to swap everything over, and need to make sure a decent amount of people have the game before they can change over.
Fingers crossed for some classic sc1 units coming back into the fold.

I've seen heaps of vids where people complain about the lack of space control - if they introduce a some space controlling units (like the lurker) then it could end up being a completely different sort of game.
In that case, people who like the more fragile WoL type play style might stick with that - while others move over to HotS. That is actually pretty cool
