The lack of LAN in Starcraft 2 strikes again with the latest victim being MarineKing in the GSTL.
Near the end of an intense back and forth battle between PartinG and MarineKing consisting of constant action, incredible micro and the closest battles I have seen, the dreaded 'Waiting for Player' screen popped up. PartinG had just managed to push the Prime player back to his base and was attacking some barracks and the game ended by a drop out.
After a little bit it was announced that it was an internet issue and not a problem with the computer gear and the audience began to chant together "We want LAN". The referees got to work and after a 5 minute break a re-game was called.
MarineKing went on to beat Startale single handedly and the match finished 5-2 to Prime
I have no doubt that Blizzard will be receiving many E-Mails from everyone watching that LAN needs to be introduced. When tournaments with thousands of dollars on the line are put into this situation you have to begin to ask. Which is more important to Blizzard, their wallets or their game?

D. Ting tweeted that it wasn't an issue which would've been solved with lan: apparently, the computer itself stopped communicating with the network.
Whilst the drop was painful as parting was in a commanding position, the outcry from everyone that was directed towards MKP absolutely shat me to tears.
Seeing people constantly post in the stream chat the MKP cheated and pulled an ethernet cable, it's absolute stupidity. Furthermore, after winning the rematch, MKP did not look at all impressed or proud.
A lot of people instantly insist on jumping onto the hate bandwagon for the sake of hating something.
I left after bomber lost because the final meant nothing to me anymore. That is a really terrible position to be in for the tournament with either decision leading to undermining the result. Basically prime didn't win that final, no one won and I don't want to talk about it again.
What i want to hear, is the ref's official statements. They had access to the replay, we do not. They had time to discuss amongst far more informed people, we have but a few (who dont have that replay!). Besides, thats life when theres a referee involved. In football, the ref doesn't hand out a red card and turn around 10 minutes later, oh sir, just kidding, you can come back on, people whined enough so im letting you back on.
Let not there be speculation. For speculations leads to confusion, confusion leads to frustration, frustration leads to anger, anger leads to hate, hate leads to the darkside.
Sorry about that. From what I heard from the stream I heard that it was an internet problem and that LAN would have helped
Yeah, and Stephano is a US Citizen, Day9 is dead and Oni is banned.
Stream chat really isn't the best source of any information, especially on big streams where it is very hard to regulate and the only ones talking tend to be the ones not worth listening to.

Reason: Oni should be banned.
The worst thing is that MKP is behind at that point of game with a chance of defending it, The regame wasnt really close at all. But if the regame decision was accepted by ST coach and Parting i dun really see this as a problem.

All these posts. From OUR view this seems correct. MKP behind etc. BUT! We dont have a replay to look at that the refs did, all we had was caster view, its not the whole picture. Still going to wait for a response from the ref's (hopefully there is one)
I agree that it sort of undermines the overall result, but in reality it was probably fair to replay the game. Sure, Parting could have theoretically pushed in and won, but that game was so back and forth and so intense, its tough to just adjudicate it either way. I think the rematch was the fairest possible option.
Not sure if this has been posted but coach gerrard from prime had this to say in the interview.
Quote:
I ask GomTV to release the replay so that there is no misunderstanding. If Startale or the fans think that Parting deserved a win, I will resign as team Prime’s coach.
Will be nice if they do, the replay will give a lot to discuss on (though I doubt if he would resign lol).

That's some ballsy talk. Awkward moment when everyone watches it and realize that Parting actually did deserve the win.
^^ There have been some very very stupid situations in bw due to kespa rules. And I think there as a situation where the game was called off cause a progamer fainted. Not sure about a disconnect though, it was mostly lan, so you didnt have to hear the vehicle of e-sports speech too often.
Yeah flash vs jaedong in BW not sure which year, pretty much jaedong clawed his way back into the game was was in a commanding lead and someone dc'd and they awarded the game to jaedong and ppl qq'd about for years. The internet is going to qq regardless of their decision. If they awarded the game to Parting there would be as many ppl crying about it as people crying about the game being remade. All in all it sucks ass, people need to move on, and mkp still played extremely well to beat parting again and then the rest of ST as well
The decision itself doesn't REALLY matter. The real problem is that Blizzard still aren't implementing LAN into a game that has big tournaments; with big money for high-perfoming players/teams. I think Blizzard should implement LAN, and even if it doesn't make a difference, they can at least say "Well, we gave you what you wanted" and people can stop blaming them.
My 2c.
They can't add a traditional LAN function cause it will make it easier for people to pirate sc2. Also they'll lose control over how companies can use it, a la kepsa and Brood War. Hopefully though the quote...

We’re also working on a feature that will help players connect with other players and games that are near their location (connecting through the same IP). We believe this will primarily be used by people in internet gaming rooms, offices, dorm rooms, and local tournaments where you just want to find the guy sitting in the desk next to you. Although this may not be ready in time for the release of patch 1.5, we do intend to have this available by the time Heart of the Swarm ships.
... means that people will be able to connect to each other without constant connection to battle.net (just initial connection). If they can do that, it might help (not in this situation though).

I agree, but in THIS situation, LAN wouldnt have helped. The computer lost connection to the network, like a plug pull.
It's absurd that we still find ourselves in this situation, though, so many times after SC2 is released. BW almost never had these issues (Flash vs JD was a power outage, external factor), and to see it at a stage of this size is appalling.
The refs should have shown the reasons for their ruling through at least showing their analysis of the replay on the spot. I mean really I don't think there was anyway MKP was gonna be able to come back from that.
Yes, it's extremely unlikely that MKP could come back, but what's immediately in question is whether he was going to die right there. Anything more requires assumptions about how the game would go, and you can't award games on assumption.
