Hey guys,

I am trying to start up my youtube channel and was wondering wondering what advice anyone can give an aspiring young gamer! My youtube is in my signature below!

I am mainly a SC2 channel to start with but as I gain subscribers I will begin to branch out to other games. I will mainly record my long ass ladder sessions and cast any CW or tournaments I can get my hands on! I will also record random games that people upload here to SC2SEA that I think would be awesome to have on my channel! But that doesn't mean you can't send me your own! contact details are below.

So for both ladder and casting you should work on improving your game knowledge. Even if your mechanics aren't great, if you have great in depth knowledge of the game people will listen and learn from you. It also helps to be entertaining in some way or another. Like comedic or something, whatever you think people would like.

Yeah, being only gold this is hard but I am doing my best to learn the meta games right now!

If you want to try and make your channel take off and have a long term goal of say, a husky/day9/HD level channel (not sure if that's your plan) you need to provide content that people will want to watch - preferably something that other channels don't offer since there are 9999999 other people trying to make something of their youtube channels too. Look through your own videos and ask yourself, "If I were a random passerby would I watch this?". Most people will only watch the first few seconds of a video and then perhaps skip through it to see if they feel like its worth watching. This way, you actually have a very small window to hook your viewer in.

I don't mean to sound harsh here, but recording your "long as ladder sessions" as a gold league player won't draw many viewers in. A better approach could be to pick out the games that were the most exciting from that session or to make yourself a highlight real. Even a video - long or short - showcasing something silly that happened in a game (e.g. youtube search: husky's hero zealot) can be a good way to go.

Another one of other things you can do to make people more likely to subscribe is provide regular content. Think a long the lines of Day9's weekly video schedule where he has Funday Monday, Newbie Tuesday, Day9s Day off and so on. Husky has things like Ladder Anxiety and Bronze League Heroes. People come to these streams and channel looking for the next installment of the segment that they enjoy most. Make sure to ask your friends about what they think are the best things to watch!

Also, plug the hell out of your twitter and make sure you tag your videos well.

yeah thanks man! that helps a lot. I usually split the vids into each game. not huge 1 hour vids but I see where you are coming from. nothing ever happens to me on ladder though :/ just normal ass normal games

hey there. im currently also doing a few videos for youtube. mainly focusing on SC2 ladder games that i play and other random games (i've uploaded plenty of arma 2 trolling videos

). I initially started out just putting notes ontop of my starcraft replays pointing out what I should of done instead of what I did do, but am planning to start doing voice overs in the future. But being a silver (Gold at highest) league player, I'm still learning the details of gameplay

I cant give too much in the way of advice, but from what Zepph has noted seems like it could be a good starting point. One of my goals is to upload regular content eg 1 ladder game each day. Not only is it going toward my goal, but I do enjoy just fiddling around with the editing and playing about.

I have just subscribed to your channel, and I look forward to seeing your uploaded content in the future!

this applies to any site - target an audience. If you're gold then your target audience might be BSG and people wanting to improve. Maybe share your experiences with what does and doesn't work. Every vid should have a point. Be clear in your message. Also best to keep most vids short. 5 to 10 min. Interweb people have a short attention span. The back button on the browser ain't far away.

Finally have a plan. What do you want you site to achieve. You might for example set out a schedule of content that you're going to do for the next ten weeks.

Thanks for all the help guys and I will definitely keep that in mind! I think I might just start with a 'BSG' noob school kind of deal. Play ladder and record,but grab the games I lose and show them what I didn't do and how to fix it. problem is I am only a zerg so I will have to start with that :P but I would still like to put out regular content often say... 2-3 vids a day as my net can handle 3-4 vids over night and over the school day
