Hello, I am a gold Protoss playing in SEA/NA server and at the moment, tho mostly NA due to SEA having little to nobody online. I find that I am often restricted to the type of builds I am going. I am not loosing alot (doing quite well infact as most of the time face Plat/Diamond folks on ladder in NA) but nonetheless would like to know more builds to be more versatile ( am i using the correct word). So anyway, these are my current builds that I know.
PvP
starting
- 4 gate (taldarim only)
- 3 gate robo (after that colossus)
end
usually go colossus and a mothership if i can remember to build a stargate
PvZ
Starting
- FFE (then either go 7gate all in/ sentry immortal/ 2 base 4 gate push when I see early third/ some stupid robo colossus play)
end
- usually end up as HT with Zealot/Archeon with stalkers to snipe broodlord, sometimes will put some voidrays in the mix
- lots of charge zealot drops once zerg goes onto 4-5 bases
PvT
Starting
- 1 gate FE (into colossus mostly)
- a fast expand as soon as I get a robo down (about 5 min markish if I am not mistaken)
end
- usually colossus first then HT's once i see a reasonable number of vikings
I would truly appreciate it if you all can help me with builds. Thank you
P.S. Please do make it noobie friendly. I can only handle 4-5 hotkeys at max and usually can only use 1 hotkey for army (thus my inability to throw good forcefields when HT in the mix) Thank you very much!
To be honest, I'd be focusing on things like never getting supply blocked and constantly building workers, as well as expanding at suitable times and throwing down extra production and tech when you can afford it.
In all honesty, you can get far higher than gold by simply improving your mechanics.
I just started playing again after about a 10 week break and decided to give protoss a shot on my off-race account. I haven't sat down and planned out any builds, I just have a general idea of what I want to do and I'm just working on spending money and expanding.
For the latest builds, the best thing you can do is just watch some pro replays and base your timings off their's. To be honest, if you can't handle multiple hotkeys yet, you're going to struggle with to-the-second builds and timing attacks.
TL;DR - Build probes and pylons; spend your money and get used to multiple hotkeys for army and for production.
thank you. Usually I have pretty ok probing, my cash is usually below 4-500 untill late game where i get in the heat of stuff and it really builds up. as for tech and expanding, I usually like expanding so I do not really have any issue about that, just sometimes i forget as I am not too intuned with the game as of yet. (just returned about 3 weeks ago after a 6 month break ) but thank you for the help. will take it all into account.
Oh, but I find that all the toss I usually watch now play hots, so thats why I came to the forums.
As a gold player myself, I think its important to be able to macro well first, eg not getting supply blocked
Then it is to focus on 1 solid build to use for each match up and perfect that build.
By perfecting i mean really perfecting it in such a way that its second nature to you. Then by knowing your build inside out, what it does, what are its goals, what is is susceptible to, what to transition, etc etc.
I personally don't think its wise to have so many builds at this level, at plat level maybe yes but certainly not gold level.
Your builds now are alright, just understand, perfect the build and macro well, you should be doing well on the ladder ^^
Hope this helps!

Listen to Bjorn, for that man is both wise and handsome.
My toss is approximately plat level (I only play it when I random) without knowing any actual builds (but I have a good approximation of what I want to have but I truly don't have any basis for when I should get what). Reason being, I do a half-decent job of making probes and pylons, and I just spend my money on increasing production and building units.
I assume you know and use every hotkey (i.e. you NEVER click on the interface pane in the lower right corner), as well as using shift to rally workers as well as to add and subtract units from control groups. If not, then make sure you do. Make sure you use screen position hotkeys, make sure you are constantly cycling control groups. Practicing these things will make you faster, which in turn makes it easier to stay on top of probes, pylons and production. It's a wonderful cycle that results in your simply being able to win by throwing units at your gold and plat league opponents.
With good mechanics, builds become natural, and learning builds becomes easy(easier). I'd stick with one per matchup (copy your favourite player) until at least diamond, even masters.
hey man hit me up on SEA ETLHalt.215, skype halt009 or jump into the ETL chat i could show u a few things if you want
