Zergling Round-Up

Zergling Round-Up is a show that is designed to promote up-and-coming players, teach people about their style, and provide key insight to why what this person does works. In some ways, it's a show case of unique styles and ideas. Contrary to the name, this will not be limited to just Zerg players -- our very first episode, afterall, featured Kas and his epic macro-oriented Marine Tank Medivac TvZ style with lots of drops. That sounds like every other ZvT, but he was the first to do a quick third Orbital in the main, which is now the current meta-game, but at the time was unheard of.

Episode 6 TypePhoenix
In this episode of Zergling Round-Up, we are checking up on the very first Korean to make the choice to go to a Foreign team, formerly of the now-disbanded team Reign, Type Gaming's anti-Protoss powerhouse PhoeNix. We will be focusing on his wonky style of ZvP, most commonly coming off of a gasless 3 base strategy.

Foxy, of SC2Lair, did an interview with PhoeNix in December of 2011, discussing his reasons for choosing to be a Foreigner, rather than a Korean:

Episode 4 Adelscott
This episode of Zergling Round-Up will be taking a look at M+Adel's super-aggressive PvZ, and how being quicker than your opponent can oftentimes prove to be more valuable than being stronger than your opponent.

Episode 3 EmpireViolet
Taking a look at Violet's super-standard, but aggressive macro playstyle.

Episode 2 AcerNerchio
We will be looking at Acer.Nerchio's ZvT, specifically in reference to friends and rivals like Kas and Goody. He employs typically a roach-ling style with a lot of infestor support, with mass macro hatcheries. His mid-game wraps up with a lot of aggression, trying to deny bases, et cetera.

Everyone loves Nerchio's ZvZ. But not many people know too much about his ZvT style, despite his having used it against (and taken games off of) some of the best players out there like the ye-ol' Spoon, Mouz.Thorzain. The best reason to learn from Nerchio, however, isn't really his aggression or how dynamic his play is. It's his perspective. He has played every race, and done so under pressure, in tournaments, for first place.

Quote:
From Liquipedia @Nerchio On the 19th July 2011,
Nerchio rejoined his former coach Kaoru in the newly-created Team Acer, alongside his friend and 2v2 partner Osho [4]. The next day, he won Go4SC2 #120 in a dominating fashion, showing his mastery in the three races of the game by playing Random in final against VERDI [5]. In the first game, he spawned as Protoss, and Mothership-rushed his opponent [6]. In the second game, he spawned as Zerg, and went mass burrowed Infestors [6]. In the third and last game, he spawned as Terran, and went mass nuke in order to win the final 3-0 [6].
With such a repertoire of knowledge, a flair for the unusual, a tendency toward aggression, and recommendations from some of the best players and talent scouts out there (CaTz once stated Nerchio was second only to Stephano in Europe; Team Dignitas says the following of Nerchio in their hype statements about the SCAN Invitational: "Will Nerchio show his dominance again within the EU scene to add to his huge virtual trophy cabinet?"), who can help but be impressed by the little Polish Zergie with Harry Potter glasses?

Episode 1 EmpireKas
Hey guys, this is vVvShaft again. I'm starting a new series called Zergling Round-Up. Mostly, this series will be casting my favorite Zerg players; each show will be divided into three parts, with each part being a separate game -- unless we happen to have a particularly long and interesting game, where I might make an exception. Mostly, this show will be about bringing attention to little-known players, or players just breaking through that others might not yet know about. I won't always be featuring Zerg players, either, though each game will involve a Zerg in some way. Tonight's cast, for example, all feature Empire.Kas -- he is the player of the night. Some nights I'll have guest casters, other times I'll just solo. Tonight's guest is vVvMaze, and you can expect the show to be airing promptly at 8 PM EST. Look forward to seeing you guys there!
