I recently learned how to create camera locations with the ctrl+function keys, but I don't really use them in-game. Anybody here have any previous experience using the keys? Any tips on how to use them more often?
Camera 1 (F1): Main Base
Camera 2 (F2): Natural
Camera 3 (F3): 3rd expo
Camera 4 (F4): 4th expo
Camera 5 (TAB): army rally point.
I also unbound Idle workers from F1, so I have camera hotkeys from F1-F4. My army rally point hotkey is TAB.
Hope this gives u an idea. glhf~!
I find it better to use the hatches at these locations as my 'camera' hotkey. i.e. double tapping the appropriate number hotkey. I think cameras are more useful for locations around their bases, where you want to attack in from, or basically just really strategic positions on the map. having said that I dont use them, as i find clicking the minimap to be simpler mentally. Practice using camera keys, and I'm sure it will work out to be more effecient, especially as you start getting consistant with which camera goes where on each map and spawn location.
1. Not having control of the watchtowers enough
2. Despite already knowing there are camera hotkeys to use, I never used them.
So to force myself into using these. I use;
F1 : Set on the closest watch tower
F2: Set on the next watch tower
F4: Set on my production rally point (usually on my natural ramp) So if I'm in the middle on an engagement and need to send my army back at home to another location in the map, it's much faster to hit "F4" and send this army to another location if I need to.
I don't see the point of setting my camera keys to my bases since I have switched backspace keys and spacebar over. Just hitting space bar lets me toggle through each of my bases. Also good to quickly check worker saturation as well
I play protoss and find that this is a really helpful method.
1. forward pillon for warp ins during battles.
2. main
3. natural
4. third.
I can really quickly chrono boost all of my nexuses by using the camera keys, similar to larva injects for zergs. most important of all of these is the pilon. Its not really important to have camera keys for bases beyond your third, as you will forget which one it is binded too. Also chrono boost on probes isn't required when you have 4 bases. Thats how i use them for protoss
i heard day9 go on about this but as a zerg is nullified anyway.
Having a hatch on separate keys is even quicker to press and closer to fingers so no need for any of that.
i rebound backspace, but that key was originally bound to alert, so if things start glowing on the map hit that . .
setting it to the army rally point is also a bit odd (to me that is as this is always changing and would be adding more into what you have to manage with your macro)
there is a post on TL at the minute called The Core or something,i want PiG, Nirvana or another pro player to explain if this is actually any benefit.
