My friend has been experiencing trouble on the ladder recently against Protoss so we decided to do some practice matches to help him improve this aspect of his game. He's a high gold to mid plat Zerg and recently on the NA server, there seems to be an increase in people using this strategy. So if any fellow experienced zergs would give him some advice, it would much appreciated.

Alright, I only watched the first half of it as he lost the game very early on.

Firstly. he started floating a lot of minerals early on the game and never spent his money well for the rest of the game cos he kept getting supply blocked. So he needs to make sure he is making overlords ahead of time. The other thing about overlords is that I think its better to stick your first overlord over the cliff next toe their front wall off so you can see that. I believe (someone will correct me if I'm wrong) that your second overlord can still make it to behind the gas at the main base before anything that shoots up will find it.

I don't think he ever sacrificed an overlord in to see what was actually going on. A good time for this is between 7:00-7:30 to know exactly how many drones you can make. He stopped droning very early but was floating a lot of minerals. You never want to be making less workers than the protoss. He could have afforded a much earlier macro hatch also with all the money he was floating.

Another thing to note would be the spine crawler positioning once you were attacking him. I'm not sure what his logic was behind making 3 spines at the smaller ramp on cloud kingdom, no protoss with a brain will try and engage up a tiny ramp like that. He would have been much better off moving those spines to his third which is the spot where protoss will attack.

Bare in mind also, that spine crawlers yet again means less drones so he was very very behind on economy. I didn't watch the rest but it should have been an uphill battle from there.

yeah pretty much what zepph said,

mainly macro issues, floating heaps of larvae and minerals and get supply blocked heaps.

as for the engage, +1 was almost finished, should have bought some time and then engaged when that finished. Also make sure that you have some lings as well infront of your roaches, stalkers dont do that well against lings.

The best way to deal with this timing is spines roaches lings and depending on our macro and what time he attacks infestors

Scouting is key! First check for his nat gas, and then ovl move in to try to see how many gates he have. Of course, if your ovl sees like only 4-5 gates. You better make some army and assume its some all in push unless you see he has taken a third. Roach ling spines is what you need
