I am only a silver player but i just went up against my first mech terran and only just won but while i was playign i had absolutley no idea of what kind of units to use in the end i went ling ultra infestor and baneling which is what i usually go but is there any other better unit compositions that are better for taking on mech. All help is apreciated
It is said that if you know your enemies and know yourself, you will not be imperiled in a hundred battles; if you do not know your enemies but do know yourself, you will win one and lose one; if you do not know your enemies nor yourself, you will be imperiled in every single battle.

Start off a roach based army and tech to hive, as the game progresses he'll get a large number of tanks in which your best option is to get brood lords. You should be able to kill his army off with ease, then he'll probably try get vikings to counter you, if you have a good brood count and you have infestors, you can mass corruptors and win the game like that, if not you can tech switch back to roach-ultra as he'll have too many vikings to kill off your ground army, rinse and repeat tech change. Heres a replay of me vsing a mech terran. http://www.sc2sea.com/replays.php?do=viewreplay&id=703
Drops, Nydus and counter-attacks are all very powerful against Mech. Mech is strong but immobile so abusing that fact is often more important than trying to come up with the perfect composition to beat them in a head on fight. try and keep that in mind instead of searching for the "counter".
My understanding of mech TvZ is not great even from the mech perspective but the basics are as follows
1) don't lose drones. You want to get to 3 base and 70 drones asap so you can make a billion roaches without the fact that roaches are a bad unit letting you down. The only way mech can kill drones is big blue flame plays and banshees and drops, one is countered by getting roaches, one by queens and ther other by good overlord spread.
2) When you see him using blue flames, roaches. Roaches don't get damaged by blue flames so use them to push out your creep, secure territory and keep those blue flames the hell away from your drone lines.
3) Roaches and speed banes off of a massive economy keeps him back during the midgame, and a lategame of Broodlords wins you the game. Remember to get carapace upgrades for your broodlords or 3/3 thors + autorepair just annihilates them.
4) Be extremely active with your roaches. Big herds of roaches darting around the place picking off thors is extremely annoying for the mech player.
Most are good advice/ I'd like to add, go broodlords when u tech to hive fast, and it usually helps to mix a little bit of baneling to all the roach to quickly kill the helions since baneligns do good dmg vs them and while helions don't do that much vs roach, they can soak up a lot of hp for tanks/thors.
Also, if you can't be bothered to play a macro game, just go a giant 2 base nydus roach all in

It is preferred that you use drops not nydus because terran cant stop drops but if theyre looking at their base they can stop nydus very easily.
I watched a replay of Zenio playing mech, and as soon as he scouted it he upgraded overlord drop + speed and then was constantly drop harassing with roaches. Worked a treat since the terran had a hard time defending all of their bases that early on.
