3 port banshees with cloak is unbelievably strong because if you're not prepared for 6 banshees at once, you're essentially dead.

The thing is, to get 6 banshees with 3 ports with tech labs, requires a massive amount of gas = no offensive pressure other than pure marines or delayed 3 port banshees = plenty of time to scout it

As a zerg, you can throw up a hydra den really fast and pump out more hydras and queens to effectively stop 3 port banshees if you scout it early enough. Similarly, you can deflect it as the other races too. If the 'cheese' fails, they would be severely behind because banshees are not very good front-line units.

TL: DR

Short form - CHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESE!

heh, when i first started playing starcraft i had one practice partner, who was the only other person on battlenet terrible enough to be my opponent. Anyway i did slow-lurker drop every single game against him and won pretty much every time i did it, because they would never get scan on time. looking back on that game, it was definitely a dirty move for me back then. But, it at least gave them alot of time to figure out how to sculpt their build so that it could be safe versus mine as well as every other build they were up against.

To this day i cheese angry nerds on the ladder and it helps them to improve their build order and further the game's progress.

Any strategy is legitimate. People are just BM because they did not scout the tactic and have no counter to it.

Have to agree... Sure it's powerful but if it's scouted they have time to prepare and 3 ports on one base doesn't give you much ability to recover from a failed attack.

Well it sucks that their moms never told them how dirty this game gonna get, but essentially, there's no such thing as a 'dirty tactic', which can be likened to a low-blow per se, because if it's dirty and immoral and disgusting, why is it packaged into a game and sold on store shelves globally? Eh?

If a tactic wins you games, go ahead, refine and polish and keep using it, because you'll soon come across another build that counters your build, and the cycle goes on.

Don't worry, and remember, never change a winning formula.

I don't play as terran but dealing with banshee's is pretty easy, I haven't encountered a 3-star bashee harass yet but I never give the opponent the benefit of the doubt and as protoss pretty much always have cannons at my mineral line to defend my income. Also have an obs with my army to see them so I don't see how it's that dirty, blame the other player for not seeing it coming.

The build surely takes awhile to get running, and even if you do get it quick you won't have much ground forces so there isn't really an excuse for not detecting it.

Speaking of people raging, I pretty much never use DT's but I did the other day to his mineral line and the dude went nuts with abuse saying how lame of a player I was. However I got to admit nothing irritates me more than muta harass but now I scout as frequent as possible and when I see them I just get blink

Long story short: May be a hard thing to counter if you didn't see it coming but there are plenty of weaknesses in the build that can be exploited.

not really, cause if you lose to Dt's its usually because you tried to cut corners by not building a lair.

fyi i saw a replay where IdrA lost to 2-port banshee, so even tho its legitimate its still dirty in my eyes! ^^

Not as bad as 3-port banshee tho. And its hell difficult to scout 3-port banshee coz usually the cheeser will be extra vigilant in killing overlords that go in to have a peek. The only way i found out was after i busted his depot and did a ling run-by and saw 3 starports with tech labs did i noe that he was going 3-port banshee.

So you can say that cheese can be scouted, but probably you should provide advice on how to scout it with proper timings thrown in

Personally, I find indirect scouting to be pretty damn useful. Generally if you see a bunker at the front wall of a terran's base, they're up to some sort of secret tech. The get the bunker to reinforce their wall as they don't have the normal army to do it (since that money is spent on tech).

You can then either prepare for what you expect to meet based on past experience/other scouting or try and kill them then and there

I get six-pooled and four warp gate rushed. I rage for a bit, but then, a strategy is a strategy. Winning is winning. If they didn't scout it, tough. If they let you get six banshees, they deserve to lose.

3-port banshee? off one base? That's like friggin 6 x 150 minerals + 150 gas + cost of three starports (3 x 150 minerals and 100 gas) + (mining time + production time + travel time) about 10 mins into the game. You should be very suspicious if he doesn't attack in like seven minutes.

If you suspect that he is teching you should just pressure him. No way for him to hold his front. So basically in 4:30 mins you can produce your first banshee. if you straight up tech. If he takes an early expand, that banshee rush will be a lot more deadly. I tend to build a reactor barracks followed by barracks tech lab, and follow up with a strong stim-marine-banshee timing push. If you see a reactor, strong chances are that he's looking to spend his minerals. So there will probably some gas heavy units waiting in the back like a thor or banshee.

You can't, that's why its cheesy! There's no way u can support 3 port off 1 base. The strategy here is to make 2-3 marines to keep overlords out of your base (heck the cheeser sent his initial marine all over the place looking for my overlords) and then u save up resources to make 6 banshees at once and go and all-in your opponent, usually with your initial 3 marines and a fuckload of SCVs.

lol, i don't think you can. Not a noob question btw. A lot of people, mostly bronze players, think they can support anything off one base.

Yeah, 3-port 1 base banshee happens for only those with bad macro. You can barely support 2-port banshee on 1 base. As dKiWi said, marine production would just stop that from happening.
