I was reluctant to post this, but I might as well to gather opinions. I lost to dGun in the BSG #1 in my first game to quick banshees, which he continued to make until he had 3 sitting at my base. Spotting my spire, he made two vikings which took down my two corruptors (I didnt know that was possible beforehand). Im not asking for people to look at the replay and list my errors, Im asking for advice on which builds would work best vs relatively fast banshees.
Would it be roach hydra? Muta/corruptor? Just corruptors? More queens? Spore colonies?
This is assuming I know it is coming. It kind of caught me off guard in the game, but seeing as I knew he wasn't making much infantry or mech, I should have assumed it. I prodded up his ramp with lings a few times to see this.
Also, my starting build was 14 pool 15 hatch.
Is it generally good to get fast gas vs terran?
I also believe Unstable will be posting something on ustream if he hasn't already about this, since dGun did it more than once in the tournament.
Edit: You may want to ignore the poll since I didnt add muta ling as an option.
you want your army composition vs terran to be ling muta (unless he mechs) so build 2 more queens if you suspect him going banshees.
as a rule you should always make 3 queens (1 for each hatch and 1 to spread creep) so just make 1 more for the banshee.
you should also hatch first before pool vs terran
muta counter vikings alot better than corrupotors so dont make corrputors
use your queens to stall till you get your mutas and his banshees will be in trouble.

Yeah, tbh, 3 queens is what I do usually, dont know why I didnt in the tournie, guess I was a bit nervous. Actually I was, I scouted way too early out of being kinda afraid and made a few more similar small errors.
Just checked liquipedia, and Im going to be trying some of the builds vs terran there. Thanks for pointing out how my previous build vs terran isnt that good.
i think it depends whether he is going banshees or 1 or 2 starports.
if its just 1 starport, i think 3 queens are fine but if hes doing two starports (pretty all-in imo) the queens wont be enough. youll need to make hydras. dont bother making a sporecrawler, invest in an overseer.
thats just my advice but then again, im just a gold league player.
Hey there! I actually play dGun in the semis of the BSG#1 and he went for banshees against me too. What happened was i stole his gas which pretty much delayed the banshee play and what happened was when i sent my drone to scout (always important to scout) my drone got ripped by marines in a bunker. Now ask yourself, why would the Terran player throw down a bunker infront of his wall? Definitely he wants to be able to defend against any sort of Zerg early pressure while he techs. Immediately I knew he was going banshees. I quickly build 2 queens, 1 at each hatchs for a total of 4 queens and started lair (for detection). I was able to hold off pretty easily with queen micro.
For me i prefer bling mutas if he goes mass marines medvacs and if he had thors/siege i add in roaches.
And yes hatch first against terran is always good as you want the eco advantage and extra production capability. If you fear he would 2 rax you. Skip the 15 ovie and make an early spine. Not too sure about the timing but there's a strat Idra and Ret came out with for zerg to still hatch first and hold off any 2 rax marine bunker pressure.
Check out my replays from the BSG, maybe it'll give you new insights about ZVT. Hope this helps
If I see the starports, I like to get the evo chamber for spores. Just one is enough then focus on expanding with hydra/infestor build in mind. If he tech switches out of banshees, he wouldn't have the gas for tanks and that's the only pain in the ass vs hydra/infestor.

Wow,my first post here!
1 spore crawler on each base(1 at main, another at expansion).
That is for detection purpose if you haven't tech to Lair. Make 4 queens all together as suggestion by nirvana.Get mutas and counterattack.GG.
Noteon't overcommit yourself with too many sporecrawlers.
As a Terran (who occasionally banshees occasionally when it's against exclusively Zergs), I find problematics when the number of Queens is equal to or more than my Banshees. Queens, as D4rkFusion mentions, are a faster counter against Banshees, but I believe the reaction time to get more Queens needs to be fast, so scouting fast is adamant.
Also, whenever I see a bunch of Mutas in the air, I know that they eat Banshees Pop for breakfast, lunch and sometimes dinner. Without milk.
Btw to go Mutas is a slower response as compared to getting Queens, and a good thing for you to note is that when I see the enemy making Spore Crawlers, I chuckle because Banshees can fly past them and engage other targets if their original is defended.
Queens rule, plus they vomit larva and poop creep spreaders.
basically the easiest way to handle banshee is to get queens as nirvana pointed out. but there are some variations to what can actually happen. if the terran manages to do some econ damage to you via hellions (which is pretty common before banshees) then u might not get a lair up in time and u will need evo chambers for spore(detection). if hes banshees are slow.. u can actually wait till your mutas come out(distracting the banshees with your queen).
the worse thing that can happen to you is unscouted 2 port banshee which is gg. and even if u spot it, queens might not be able to hold depending on your micro! so i reccomend getting one spore =p... unless u know for sure u can hold with your current queens
Once you see them trying to wall off with 2 supply depots and a Barracks, Its almost definately Banshees.
I normally get my Lair up fast, get Hydras and a few spore crawlers, Queens and Overseers.
Note that you need quite a number of Hydras to take down a few Banshees, otherwise Banshees decimate Hydras :P Mutas just seem too late and they can get banshees before the Spire is done which takes Lifetimes. Yes get mutas later as once they see Hydras, they possible might go for Tanks.
Mutas Pick off Tanks well

Boss, in my humble opinion, the most important thing as zerg is to scout(unless you're planning to all-in cheese!)
almost certainly, sacrifice an overlord around supply 30-35 into his base(your overlord should be at the edge of his base already).
if you don't scout and prepare for banshees and plunk down the standard 3 spores, thats 3 drones gone and a few hundred minerals down the drain. and what if he comes with a mass of MMs via your front door?
if you're sure he's going banshees, a couple of spores and an extra queen wouldn't hurt. even if bans don't come, the other queen can walk to your expansion or help spread creep

I would like to disagree with that APM. Terran/Toss would generally wall in against Zerg for any BO for the simple fact of preventing zergling run bys into the mineral line etc. Regardless if he's going banshee or whatever terrans would almost 100% wall in..
