We’ve just had confirmation that GAME Australia has gone into administration.
Earlier this morning staff members informed Kotaku Australia that GAME wouldn’t be receiving copies of Diablo III due to payment issues with its shipping companies, and many reported issues with GAME’s website.
However, final confirmation came this morning when all GAME stores were sent an email stating GAME had gone into administration. GAME’s Marketing Manager also confirmed this to Kotaku Australia, but declined to give further details.
The UK arm of GAME went into administration in March this year closing 609 of its stores. Back then GAME Managing Director Paul Yardley stated he was looking for a buyer for the Australian division, but could not rule out the possibility of redundancies and store closures.
At the moment we’re not aware of the impact this news will have on stores locally. We will update this story as and when more information comes to light.
Lifehacker has some information on whether or not it’s safe to buy from GAME in its current state.
"It means an external independant source takes over the running of the company, ie paying off debts and claiming from creditors etc, the administrative duties."
I purchased a CE copy from em awhile ago and it shipped on the 11th and is in my town today (using aus post tracking) heres hoping its not a box with lol we went broke T.T.
I vote EB just because they now sell Tt eSPORTS gear ^_^
I actually was killing a few minutes in EB yesterday and noticed they had a Tt eSPORTS keyboard there. :P I never buy anything from these stores though because they are just stupidly overpriced. They were selling SC1 for $40 still and it's not even the battle chest edition, it's just a vanilla case with BW included, but it's $15 on the B.net store.
administration means creditors put a halt on supply until the proceedings are sorted. Whilst normally a quick procedure (and by quick I mean a convening period of about 1 month) proceedings can take much longer in practice depending on issues of solvency and the like. I don't think anyone is here for a disposition on the administration process in Australia but the long and the short of it means that customers may have to join the creditor queue, not only is receiving the game on time likely to be an issue - but receiving it at all, and/or receiving a refund may also be an issue.
GAME were selling retail copies for like $80+ when you could source them from JB HIFI for $69 for example.
Not a fan of EB either both due to their expensive rates but also the fact they remove the CDs from all their new games for safety reasons.
JB HIFI still has the babies wrapped in plastic unaltered and generally at a decent price - plus always willing to match the price of any other store ♥
Wasn't sure whether the UK arm going into administration was an indicator of the performance of Aussies Game. Here's my answer. Hope everyone gets their copy of D3 safe and sound!
