What I notice happening in games with a larger difference, is that the players are sometimes operating under a different meta game (or one isnt operating under at all). So the higher player will be like "why the hell did you just attack with 10 marines at that time, its stupid and should never work you are such a bad player!" And then the other guy will go "But I won. Suck it up." Keep 'em honest I say.
Well done, you have successfully managed to break matchmaking more than it already is.
It's quite funny.
They say that they make that system so people won't "have to be at the top of their game every game". But you don't know when you can "relax" or not before the end of the game, so it seems pointless for that purpose.
I think this will be confusing for people because they won't know if they won/lost because they played well/bad (for their level) or if the opponent was really weaker/stronger. It just can give you more excuses.
The main interest I see is to help break some loosing streaks cycles by boosting a bit your confidence with a ladder win. It might also give quicker promotions I guess but that's to be seen.
For someone in the middle leagues, I welcome this change. I love going against better players because in turn, it makes me better. Even if I lose, I usually come away with something. IE - A good place to leave some defensive stalkers on map X, or how to prepare for a timing I hadnt seen until now.
So I played my placement match tonight (and again got declared a Gold scrub) and played a PvP against a slightly favoured 4-gater (which I lost, but hey I'm only Gold).
I noticed that Blizzard only penalized me -1 point, which has never happened to me before. I challenged that he was a smurf, but he vehemently denied being one, claiming that he was once a Plat who got knocked down to Gold. As far as I can see, he's not really lying about him being a legit Gold.
My question is that if he's really a Gold player like me, shouldn't I have been penalized even further in terms of points? Losing to a Favoured opponent = -10 points, but losing to this slightly favoured guy = -1 point.
I think I left a game (was looking for ZvZ and get nothing but terrans all night) where he was a league below and slightly favoured. The score was 0 points. Absolutely no change. I should have screen shotted it. Also played a bronze. I want my ten minutes back. I like the idea but haven't played enough ladder to comment, but matching bronze against anyone higher than silver is just unwise. The league differences are not linear, so hopefully they are not using linear boundaries for all MMRs.
spent 20 minutes searching for 3rd placement game with a new 4v4 team, gave up.

you people and your smurf witch hunts... i get the feeling a lot of people use the word without knowing what it means

why -1, not understand
at this point in the season it's likely you don't have that many points to lose. point gains will be inflated and point losses will be less than normal till you hit the score your MMR says you should be at.
