No, I'm pretty sure what happened there was they introduced an MMR cap so the MMR can't rise above a certain point, this was due to people at the very top of GM never being able to get matches (you might remember the Huk smurfing incident because he literally couldn't get a game on his main account).

To me it's more the way they make out it's a good thing that you'll no longer play people of your skill level but be vsing a rollercoaster of better/worse players. In my opinion it goes directly against the idea of a competitive ladder.

To me it's awesome, I love playing as good opponents as will play me, custom or Ladder, not super excited to play lower players but it's part and parcel, and it mixes it up, you won't know till after the game anyway.

Everyone loves Blizzard, they just want the best for their game hence their "venting". If nothing was said after a major change like this, it would be worrying. Its a forum after all and people should be able to express what they want (civilly), I'm sure Blizzard is looking at the community's reaction on various sites and will in the end make the smart decisions like they normally do.

Guys keep in mind that Blizzard said this was a "trial" season. Many people intially opposed leagues/ranks when it first came out but it turned out to be a huge motivating factor for many casual players, and they evolved/tweaked it in the end by adding the GM league which made the "competitive players" happy.

Go Blizzard ^_^!

People are definitely over reacting. They said it would mostly remain the same but just with a lil more variance. It's not like youre gonna be playing a bronze 1 game then a GM the next. Instead of playing 7-8 people in ur league in a row it might be 5 or so with 1 dude higher and 1 dude in lower league. Atm the ladder system is pretty good I think. If you have around a 50% win ratio of course you arent going to get promoted because you obviously arent very good if you are playing players in your league a majority of the time and only winning every 2nd game. I'm kinda looking forward to this as beating bad players doesnt take very long, whilst having the opportunity to verse much better players is pretty exciting, as getting demolished is wayyy more of a learning experience than losing to some dude whos around my skill level.
Lastly, most of the problem people are experiencing is on SEA. On korea im high diamond and like 17/20 games are against other high diamond players or low masters with very few exceptions unless i get around a 10+ win streak when I start playing masters players more consistantly. on SEA there just isnt enough players to consistently be playing one sort of skill level and if it means so much people to be improving to the point of being mad on a forum (not saying you are just in general) then you really shouldnt be playing on sea in the first place imo >.<

It seems to me that it could be a redundant change. "Playing lots of games" is how you get better at the game and promoted, then again can there be a situation where you are a lower league and belong at least 2 leagues higher but can't get promoted due to the sheer number of people trying to do the same thing. Getting matched against opponents slightly higher than usual is gonna help with that.

Also this does mean that people in GM will quite possibly have shorter wait times for ladder games. Being matched against low / mid masters instead of only GM / high masters. This does open up the risk for losing more points, but also gives the lower level Masters players a shot at the big time.

With all the changes coming to the ladder and newer patches, SC2 is approaching a pretty exciting time.

srry for not reading the whole thread but... i lost to s1 on ladder and he got 36 pts (inc some bonus pool) then i beat him and got 36 pts too (inc some bonus pool) but he lost 4 pts... He was favored in the loading screen zzz

We actually wont really notice the change as much in the first week or so I reckon, everyone is favored or slightly favored at the start of the season basically, even people who you can generally beat. Its to allow your points to build up

I for one, am kind of excited for this change, it may improve the play of lower level players more rapidly, and it may also help with promotion for people who seem to be stuck in the same division for every season. I also think people, maybe thinking it is going to be more of an extreme, it's not like a bronze player, is going to be matched up against a GM any time soon.

But in both of these cases it seems only to be a pro for people whom:
1. don't ladder as much
2. don't have the ability to play as much as they would like.
3. Have such a high/low MMR they can't find people to play, to reduce waiting times for these cases.

I don't seem a problem with this idea at all, at least it can't hurt trailing it for one season.

It may take a certain amount of time to find a balance, because if it works in they way I think it does, some people may be able to fluke some wins against some higher level players and get promoted well above there weight.
