[Streamers] xSplit Settings?

Hi Everyone,

I've just started streaming against after getting a new computer. My stream right now can support 720 x 568 right now with zero lag at Low Resolution, but because I'm not really experienced with xSplit, I want to ask around how you guys set your stream settings such as quality, bitrate, resolution, or even Starcraft settings. Thanks a lot, this will help me as I'm starting to stream some SEACL games and unfortunately I had to disappoint some members of Onslaught a few days ago because it was my first time getting my stream up!

Thanks for all the help streamers!

Specs:
(MSI) Geforce GTX 560 Ti (1GB)
(SAMSUNG) 8GB Ram
60 GB SSD (Installed SC2 on this)
Windows 7 (64 Bit)
1920x1080 Resolution
150 Mbps Wifi Card

I'll have to throw my setup at you when I get home and can check, but essentially the most basic thing you need isto have the right upload speed.

Run a speedtest (http://speedtest.net) to LA (make sure it's to LA and not your local town) and report your upload speed. I think the minimum you are looking for is about 600kbps upload speed, and any more is a bonus and will mean you can stream better quality.

Check your upload speed, then judging on that, decide on the quality you want to stream.

360, 720, 1080 then alter your resolution ti suit that need.

But if you want any external help, you'll need to post your upload speed as well

OK sure! I think I am around 5 Mbps (Really low) if I remember correctly, but I'm not at home right now, I'll check in a bit. Thanks guys!

Just a side note, System what do you use to record your VODs and edit it? (Been trying to find some programs to do that on Windows)

I do only basic editing and compression so VirtualDub is all I need ^_^

And the Gunrun's guide is pretty good as well for getting up and running

Oh and what's your processor? Anything less than an i5 760 then I'm not sure if your computer can run SC2 and stream.

Notes on why I say i5 760:
As much as most people say i5 2500k is the minimum while the Sandy Bridge i7s are recommended, I'm using an i5 760 which is OC'd to 3.7 Ghz and I can stream at almost 720p(I use that resolution which is less than 720p, can't remember what it is right now). So with that I know at the very least an i5 760 could be used for streaming and an i5 760 is inferior to the i5 2500k.

Don't know much about AMD processors though.

I am using an Intel i5 2340

I just did the speedtest, and I got 5.19mbps for Download and 0.53mbps for Upload and around 25 Ping.

Yeah I read the link partially, but its just I'm wondering what I can run with what I have right now, because obviously I don't have as good of a connection. I'm going to do the xSplit test right now.

@Dox for the xSplit Testing Bandwith, should I be setting the location to "Asia Backup"? Because all of those locations are states in the U.S...

Looks like you can only upload at 500kbps

So now, go to your XSplit settings, and alter the settings so that both the Video Bitrate and Audio Bitrate together are below 500.

Also, dropping your overall resolution helps a lot as well.

500kbps is enough to stream, but the overall quality will unfortunately not be as high quality as you might like

I discovered today that having my location set to "default" is the reason my stream has been shit of late. For people who are having troubles with stream lag but no ingame lag try changing this around. I got a max bitrate of 150 kb/s (yes thats right 150) on 'default' setting and over 800kb/s on 'Asia Backup'. Its amazing what 1 dropdown box can do -.-

Keep it at “XSplit Default.” unless you have a very powerful CPU you can try “faster” or “fast.”
You set that to how fast your CPU is, if you can knock it on Fast or higher, if you don't leave it on Default.

Basically speaking, that determines how fast the encoding happens whilst you stream.
