1v1 game balance future changes

Bnet have already planned for future changes in 1v1.. read all about it.

Here are a few of the changes we currently have planned:

• We're increasing roach range. This will allow roaches to be more effective in large groups, giving the zerg more options in the mid to end game.

• Fungal Growth will now prevent Blink, which will give zerg a way to stop endlessly Blinking stalkers which can be very challenging to deal with in large numbers.

• The Barracks are going to require a Supply Depot, which will impact a lot of early terran reaper pushes.

• The reaper speed upgrade will require the Factory, which is meant to weaken a lot of the early terran reaper attacks that dominate so many matches, especially in team games.

• We're making a number of increases to the health of zerg buildings, which will make the very vulnerable zerg technology structures more resistant to raids. We don't expect these hit point changes to have a super significant impact on the game, but the current numbers felt way too low.

wow massive reaper nerf. haha requiring factory for reaper speed? thats like overnerf.
roch range is lol too wtf roaches are way too strong as it is, with the new korean zvp mass roach style.

i like zerg hp building boost tho, but i dislike all the other changes

Wow these changes are so bad imo lol.
Ofc it's fun for me cause I'm noob + zerg but for the game as a whole these changes are so roflable.
Fungal Growth stopping blink is a little iffy. If they are going to stop blink then they need to stop spells.
Everything they did just limits what Terran can do. What they need to do is just extend zerg's limitations.
So much sob T_T

I guess we won't be seeing 5 rax reaper now, considering the speed comes out quite late. Factory as a requirement for reaper speed really seems like an overnerf.
Roach range increase I don't really like and not only because things like the 5 roach rush have been giving me some trouble. Roaches already felt like pretty good units, and especially the koreans seem to be going mass roach quite a bit. I guess with more range they'll be more viable late game, but that means we'll be seeing more pure roach builds/all-ins now, which imo doesn't sound to interesting *cough*earlybeta*cough*

Don't agree with the reaper nerf, not needed and pointless.. it also makes no sense from a game perspective too.. they gift a race a dedicated harrass unit, then they nerf the build time for it by 5 seconds and then they nerf the only compensation for this, making the speed upgrade require a factory and then making a T build a supply depot before rax.. so pointless.

Not sure on how to take the roach range increase, roaches will now be very popular openings.. it does delay mutas, but my strategy is to force a Z to go roaches, but now it looks like making a Z mass roaches will be detrimental to my mid game.. I do conclude however, it was a needed change.

Seems like they wish the reaper was never in the game to begin with. Considering they always use unit purpose "overlapping" with others as the reason not to have certain units, ie lurkers, reaper does seem kinda out of place with hellions already around. Both are harass oriented units, the reaper more so than the hellion, and both do +dmg vs light. Only major difference is one can jump cliffs and the other has splash dmg.
I'm still not sure about roach having more range, I thought zergs were using roaches more lately and do we really want to see pure mass roach again? It could be a necessary change though lol don't want to sound like I'm just qqing haha

they want reaper to be harassment like 1 or 2 to sneak in enemy base instead of it being used as a main army. and if u decide to mass it then ur taking a big risk in the late game. thats what blizz wants.

there were some patch notes somewhere where they said that they were toying with the idea of giving psionic units the ability to have sight equivalent to "air" units, that never came about

i think the roach change is to help against hellion openings vs terran, since otherwise they can just be kited forever until you have roach speed, which is not for a loooong time.

Not entirely sure the impact it'll have on PvZ, i mean obviously roaches will be better, but its not like they're going to be 2 armor 1 food better.

I thought that one was just speculation by someone? o.O IIRC was in the fake 1.1 patch notes.

The thing about mass reapers is that it took quite a bit of skill to pull off and isn't as easy as the top terrans make it look like. And IMO they weren't really the main army, or at the very least only for the early game. What is so good about them is their mobility, damage against light units and their relatively low cost. Reapers out run and out range roaches even on creep, they deal well with slow lings and in large groups even deal well with speedlings. Their low cost means that you'll build up a lot of minerals allowing you to expand while harassing the zerg.
However this is where the skill also comes in: Macroing while microing your reapers is essential as you don't want to waste the chance for a fast expansion, at the same time you want to make sure you don't lose any reaper at all as in small numbers they become horrible. This is quite as easy to do as it seems if the zerg is good, as it is always very tempting to go up a cliff only to jump right into a group on lings.
IMO it was a bit too good when pulled off well, but this nerf to it was definitely overkill. I thought it was quite entertaining to watch (but def frustrating to play against haha), sad to see it will probably vanish if those changes get implemented.
Besides if they give roaches +1 range they also do better against reapers, not only hellions, so maybe should have see how that affects the game first before doing something crazy like giving factory requirement to nitro packs.

Its just like ground mutalisk, or speedling with range. It is annoying when speedling gets choked but reapers can go in freely to zerg base. I think it is fair from a zerg POV. because a slight mistake would give terran the win, that harassment you're talking about actually may be comparable to a baneling bust just with less effort and allows your to expand at the same time massing MMMs in base. and also teching to thor is much MUCH quicker than ultralisk. I feel like blizzard is overdoing the terran supply thing. But Banshee cloak and Thor teching tree should be adjusted so they get a minute or 2 later.


Something has to be fixed about thor, i just dont know what, when they're massed with siege tank it seems unstoppable. and also the repair speed.

Fungal stopping blink would be nice vs your tricky little blink stalkers though .
