Hey guys, I just got the Filco Majestouch 2 with Brown Switches yesterday and thought I should make a review on it to help anyone out there who might be looking into said keyboard. Be warned though, I have not really reviewed anything before so I might not know some of the proper phrases for different parts of the keyboard :P. And with that, let us begin!

Now first of all, let me show you my previous keyboard:

Its a Microsoft Comfort Curve 2000 if I'm not wrong...

I've been using that keyboard for a good year or so now. If you look carefully at the first picture, you can see a good bunch of the letters on the keyboard is faded away from constant use. This makes it hard of a lot of my friends and relatives to be able to type properly on it :P

Now if you look at this second photo of my old keyboard, you can see that there is only two small strips of rubber at each end of the keyboard and if you prefer your keyboard slightly elevated, the part which elevates the keyboard has no rubber griping on it at all. This makes it such that the keyboard is able to slide around my desk very easily.

When I gripped the two ends of my old keyboard and twisted it slightly, I could hear the plastic 'squeeking' and could see it begin to bend slightly.

Now, for the Filco Majestouch 2 with Brown Switches.

The keyboard the packaged quite nicely and comes with a USB to PS/2 adapter as well as a nice plastic cover for the keyboard which can be used to cover the keyboard if you are in a dusty environment and what not.

The cable is about 1.5m long and comes with a custom Filco cable wrapper thingy... Anyway, the cable is not very stiff and it is not thin but neither is is thick.


Rubber grips on the back of the keyboard


Theres even rubber grips on the elevation thingy!

Alright so, the keyboard has two long and thick rubber grips at each end of it, making it quite hard to slide over your desk. While there is still rubber grips on the elevation thingys, it is a lot easier for the keyboard to slide across your desk, due to the fact that there is less surface area (this is just in comparison to when the keyboard is flat on my desk! it is still a lot harder for it to slide around than my old keyboard which slide around a LOT!).

Now the keyboard is already slightly elevated as you can see in the picture above and its top elevates about roughly 1cm more when you use the elevation thingys.


Num/Caps/Scroll Lock Lights

The light indicators of the Num/Caps/Scroll Locks are as you can see blue and they are not very harsh on the eyes (unless you stare right into them which no one should be doing...)

Now of course since the Filco Majestouch 2 is a mechanical keyboard, it is much heavier than my old keyboard but it should not cause too much of a problem even if you bring it to LAN events.

When I picked up the Filco Majestouch 2 keyboard and tried to twist its ends slightly, the keyboard did not even make a single 'squeek' and neither did it twist even slightly! This goes to show just how solid it is.

Now, since I got the brown switches, there is no 'clicky' noise when you push pass the actuation point of the keys. But! If you are not a touch typist like me and bottom-out your keys a lot, there is still a very nice 'clacky' noise from when you bottom-out the keys which although isnt as nice as the blues IMO is still very nice to hear (I took browns cause blues would be too noisy in my household :P)

Final thoughts

Since I my old keyboard had a slight curve to it, it took me a short while to adjust to the Filco Majestouch 2 keyboard but the adjustment period was very short for me (about half a day) and I could type quite nicely on it in no time.

After I used the Filco Majestouch 2 keyboard for about a day, I went back to my old keyboard to see how it felt in comparison after having gotten used to the new keyboard. My old keyboard (which used rubber dome technology like most 'normal' keyboards) felt very sluggish and gummy in comparison to my new mechanical keyboard.

I also found out that i could type faster on my new mechanical keyboard than compared to my old keyboard .

I my new keyboard and really love the way it feels, sounds and looks (a basic look with no extra features like backlighting). Definitely recommend it to others out there who is looking for a mechanical keyboard!

Where to get this keyboard
If you are from SG, you can go to CH Computer #05-04 at Funan Digital Mall if you are interested in mechanical keyboards. They sell a variety of mechanical keyboards (there was even a mechanical keyboard with red switches O_O) and gaming gear. They will allow you to test out the keyboards so if you have not felt the different switches before you can test it out at the store itself before purchasing them (my Filco cost me SG$200).

That's nice that there is a store that lets you test out a variety of switches, I don't know anywhere in Australia that lets people do that so I had to test out switches at a LAN

Yeah totally agree with MILLY - its sick that you were able to try them all out.
I just bought a filco majestouch 2 with browns in the past week as well - and as my first mechanical i didnt have any idea of how it would feel. The general consensus was to "Try all the switches" - but thats really not possible unless at a lan - as MILLY said.

Anyhoo, pretty much agree with a lot of what you said. Personally I think the 'click' on the brown switches is pretty loud as it is - so I am very interested to see what Blues are like. I can kind of get an idea from using the browns though - Regardless, sooo nice compared to rubberdomes omg.

For anyone reading this that doesnt have a mechanical - the hype is real! These keyboards are sick. Go do some research and then fork out the money for one - I doubt you will be disappointed!

I have 2, one for work, one for home. Thats how much i love them. Just because they are $160+ doesnt mean they're expensive... Why? Because if you think about it, for that money out of all the computer parts that will outdate in 10 years, you'll still have the keyboard because of the quality it is. where as all your other hardware will outdate quickly.

I have not tried the Razer Blackwidow before but considering the amount of complains I have seen about it, I'll go with the Filco Majestouch 2 :P. Not to mention that the Blackwidow only has blue switches while the Filco Majestouch 2 can use black/brown/blue switches.

Haha, my comfort curve is now in my cupboard too :P. Using as a spare in case of anything.
