well, we can create an e-sports society and make it clear in our manifesto/proposal that we concentrate on games that can be clearly defined as e-sports which usually come from the rts, fps and fighting game genres. I believe that a clear distinction is possible, because gamers like to play a variety of games while cyberathletes only focus down on one game, which to most gamer types is hypeless and pretty boring since you can't really talk to cyberathletes about the latest development in games and the plots of latest games. Which frankly speaking, i dont really care that much about. Gamers on the other hand wouldn't have ever watched gsl.
We can focus on sc2 for the first few years since the resources are more readily available from this thread especially, while we can recruit other members which may or may not be cyberathletes to tackle recruitment for other games, if there is interest. An immediate consideration would be DOTA or any of the spin-offs which include League of Legends and Heroes of Newerth. Don't know how much you guys like these games but if we want to be practical, we need to incorporate those. The eventual leaders will make the decision in the future anyway, this is just a proposal.
I know someone hu shud be quite pro at Street Fighter 4, but then we are all entering final year already dunnoe how much we can contribute honestly.
the part on the proposal seems rather vague. but i think the most important first step is to secure someone on the staff who is willing to be the advisor.
Hi guys, I am a graduating NUS student who plays sc2 regularly. add me at twilight (#273) I hope graduating dudes are allowed! And I was from science chemistry!

I think you just convince those in your team who are in NUS to join and we'll be good.
Hey guys, let try to make this a little more concrete and compiled. Could those who are interested drop me a PM with your contact details - as much as you are willing to give :
E.g.
Name, Contact Number, Email address, Nick + char code.
I'll compile it and see what we can do. I'm not really good with spearheading proposals and contacting OSA and stuff, so someone needs to step up and do it! I'll be glad to support you and provide whatever assistance I can
okay i just got a proper email from the osa with an attached document. apparently who i had talked to previously had no idea of anything. whoever is interested in taking a look at the word doc. pm me your email. i will forward it to you.
yea PM me your details. And yongming you have my email already send it over
Just to dampen everyone's spirits abit, here are some excerpts of what OSA replied:
Quote:
To answer your question, your proposed interest group must not be similar to any existing student group
Quote:
* The objectives of the proposed interest groups shall not be the same as any of the existing student organisations in the University.
We are going to have to find some way to put forward what we want so that it's entirely different from the existing E-Gaming society. Otherwise, we may be condemned to:
Quote:
Hence if your interest group is similar to the NUS Electronic Gaming Society, we would encourage you to be a sub-club of the society
A SUBCLUB wtf.
