PvZ Mass ling play

Hi all.

So I just wanted to know what I could have done in this scenario. I scout on a 4 player map and see a pool done. I assume lings, and possibly speed. Not much happens til my gates are almost done (warp that is). I have about 25 ling on my doorstep busting into my base after taking out a pylon.

I have 3 zealots at that point. Now I know I could have had warp sooner, and I should have scouted again to see all the lings.

What is the best way to deal with this in a PvZ? Mass zealot? Or should I have had a stronger wall with a gate behind the pylon?

Zealot/Sentry - your zealots beat the lings as long as they aren't surrounded.. so use he force fields to funnel in the lings while your zealots kill them..

I guess the other important things are - was this after a FFE or what kind of build?

I was going for a 4 gate, so no FFE. And as I said I'm no pro or anything, but I do pride myself on my PvZ play, so was surprised to have not come across this before or be able to defend it. Sentries are a good call though.

upload a replay mate (Right hand side of any sc2sea page where it says 'replays'), and give us more info. Are you forge expanding? If you're in your main why haven't you walled in your base or why is a pylon part of your wallin?

It's hard to tell without a replay. Anything will kill you if your warpgate is a minute late or youre floating 1k minerals or something you know? But yeh generally sentries are a good way to go, cuttin off a portion of his lings, killing them, then the next half come through and so on.

As a side note I wouldnt go 4gate unless its after FFE, bad strat is bad etc

4 gate is not exactly the best response to a mass ling play. was he 2 basing?

only time I have experienced mass ling play so early on is when he baneling dropped me.. which worked... I cried a little...

You should be checking his gas when you scout him.
Pool starts dancing/wobbling = 110 seconds to research zergling speed.

If you are doing gateway first build; here are the 'safe' options for first 3 units from gateway:

zealot -> zealot -> sentry
zealot -> stalker -> sentry
zealot -> sentry -> sentry

zealot -> stalker is usually a 'sign' for zergs that you're 4gating (don't ask me why, it makes zero sense. But I guess tonnes of players play by assumptions). Can be done from 1 gas - which is why I guess they assume 4gate.

Zealot -> sentry -> sentry is probably your best bet. Looks like a sentry expand. you'll need a 2nd gas. Also it's the 'safest' since you have 2 FF's almost 3, by the time speed can be done from a 14gas 14pool build (5:15)

Oh and btw all they had a couple of banes in there to bust my wall. PiG I don't know why I had a pylon in my wall.....I'm only in silver league I guess......

well that completely changes everything lol. But yeah generally should be scouting gases and/or he has an expo. Fun Fact, 3 minutes from when a gas STARTS is when they have speed. But yeh, against bling busts need sentries, traditional walls when u have a zealot will still be broken.

Always wall vs zerg. If you do it should be prettye asy to hold. Cut probes, chrono warp gates (when they are transforming AND when you want to warp in units) and then hold the choke. If you need to make a bigger wall by adding on gateways to strengthen your wall. Maybe get a forge if you think that is applicable. Stay calm and it should be easy

In general, some good building placement, and some zealots + good forcefields should be able to deal with most earlygame/midgame mass ling (it's a different story if they're going ling/infestor), and you want to eventually transition into colossus. Don't panic and make 10000000 cannons.
