Im basically starting to look for a new keyboard, one that can allow for comftable when playing Starcraft 2 and all types of other games. but im COMPLETELY clueless in terms of computer, techy stuff. xD
Not sure why, but i am thinking mechanical keyboard as a prefence, but can't say i really care too much, i am just looking for peoples opinons on keyboards that might be worth buying.
Any and alll suggestions will be nicely appricated. If you could mention the benefits of that particular keyboard would be nice too
this is going to be a repeat of another thread.
basically, mech keyboards have different coloured switches which feel differently
it's the general consensus that browns are better for the "all-rounded" gaming experience.
blues are better if you're a hardcore typist
blacks are more for double-tap games (mostly fps, but a lot of RTS gamers still like them)
not too sure about red keys
i personally use a filco majestouch tenkeyless with mx blue switches since im a programmer, and i can happily say that i will certainly be hunting down another one of these if it ever breaks.

Basically there a few different types of switches (black, blue, brown are the main ones) that differ in terms of feel and sound. I think the general consensus is that blacks are tiring but good for FPS games, blues are light and have a clicking sound before "bottoming out" and are great for typing, browns are blues without the click noise.
As with most peripherals it comes down to personal preference, best way to find out is to test out each model in person, which is going to be difficult if none of your friends own any. I don't think any brick-and-mortar stores in Australia stock mech keyboards (in bulk at least).
In terms of brand, the main ones are Razer, Filco, Das, Leopold and Steelseries.
You can get them from here amongst other online shops:
Personally I bought the Filco cherry brown majestouch 2 because it doesn't have any unnecessary keys or lights or crap (I like bare minimum ) but if you're into that you should definitely check out Razer. Also Das (maybe Razer too) has a shiny coating that gets fingerprints whereas Filco, Leopold and possibly Steelseries have more of a "matte" dull cover which isn't as reflective.
Ok, the best advice I can give you is wait for the next arena lan. The reason why is everyone who will be playing there will have their keyboard and mouse of preference, and will have had to make an educated decision on what they personally think is better for their own use. If you can take this information from the lan, then thats one less step for you to do, that you could possibly get wrong otherwise.
The way I'm worried that you'd get it wrong, is for example, say you didnt know about mechanical keyboards. You might go looking at every keyboard and conclude the Logitech G19 or a keyboard in that series is the best, without knowing or caring about the key switches (logitech keyboards use plastic membrane switches)
Mech keyboards aren't for everyone, but keep in mind how different one mech keyboard can sound and feel from another. You might hate one and love another, so keep an open mind if something doesn't feel right
