Hello there ppl ,
Just now i look at the training house of ProGamers , i found out that lots of the players are using a keyboard with so many hole in it , like "F2" ripped off , "<" ripped off , F8 - F10 ripped off , and etc etc.
I wonder why they ripped it off ? Anyone knows ? Please do share to me.

In broodwar, the hotkeys were scattered all over the keyboard

I suppose its so when they dart their hands across the keyboard to a location like "M" they might hit the "<" key on accident, thus the reasoning for removing the key.

Personal preference, that's why. Like perhaps I would get rid of the '~' key so that I can feel the '1' key better(I do accidentally press that instead of 1 quite a few times). Or unless you're like me who uses Colemak keyboard layout, and thus you're Caps Lock is backspace, you would maybe remove that key so that it doesn't get in the way of the Tab or Shift.

ive never pulled out a key, i use a filco tenkeyless and typing on it is sexual in nature

To answer the question, it's entirely to make the hotkeys more accessible.

I've considered buying a tenkeyless kb to doing this too but in the end, unless you're really considering pro it's probably just better to become more accurate on a standard keyboard

But totally search around for a good keyboard with a standard layout

I've remapped ~ to 0, and use ~123 for army control, 4 for hatches, 5> for Queens. It's kinda nice.

In broodwar, it was very common to rip out the windows key for obvious reasons, and the other incredibly common key to rip out of your KB was f1, because that brought up a 'help' menu, and the f2 key was used a lot in bw to jump your screen to where your main mineral line was for quick evac of workers, so accidentally hitting 'f1' when you meant to hit 'f2' and having a reaver scarab pop all your workers would REALLY piss you off.

It was a common practise in SC1 so you dont accidentally press a different key, for example tanks when they critically need to get into siege mode.

this problem is now circumvented in sc2 because you can reassign every single hotkey without having to worry you are unable to type anymore lol

yeah its kindia funny as i have taken all the windows keys, caps locks , and print buttons on my keyboards (i have three mechanical keyboards btw blue, brown and black)as well as the scroll button because that thing bugs me

I have been tempted to get rid of the capslock key lol sometimes press that by accident. When I'm trying to place a building and return the worker to the mineral line. Then when I check to see of that darkshrine is ready it has not even been placed lol

yeah i got rid of it as i dont use it often like seriously how often do u use capslock and iit wass becoming annoying especially since my keyboard has white lights for the display which hurts my eyes (im quite sensitive to light)

i took out the windows key on the left because when i was playing a fps or something i would accidently hit that instead of control for crouch and the game would minimize

So they do not accidentally press the keys when in a middle of high APM situation... wrong buttons pressed at critical moments could easily cost you the game.

I guess it also helps to find and organise the buttons, like how the F buttons are grouped in 4 with a gap between them.
