Hi Guys,
I was just wanting to get everyone's thoughts on the viability of mutas in ZvZ after the spore crawler buff and, if they are no longer viable, what will replace the muta meta in this matchup?

Personally I don't think it's going to have a huge impact and mutas could be used solidly for a contain and perhaps some kind of roach/ling pressure to take out spores and then the mutas come in afterwards. However, I've had many players tell me it's going to have no impact and many others tell me that mutas are completely unusable now, so I'd just like to hear everyone else's opinions.

IMO it's just going to prevent the early game Mutas from coming in and causing devastating economical damage. As the game progresses and the muta balls grow larger the spore buff won't do much.

I think this will result in early game ground pushes as the spores can easily hold off Mutas at home.

Muta are probably still the best opening.

What the spores allow you to do is to transition after making 10-15 or so muta into infestors.

The tech advantage you get creates some pretty strong timings, from the games ive played anyways.

Can someone link to replays of these transitions that spores are allowing for now? From my experience, it still just lets me build non-stop mutas, and just split against fungals or build banes against hydras, meanwhile I've 5 base vs 2 cos there is no chance in hell you expanding while I've got muta ling bane out.

most players are able to get 3 bases up unless someone is going for a 2 base all in.

edit. essentially if you've gone muta and kept them on 2 base you've already won the game no matter what they do.

with the new buff to spore crawlers they 3 shot a mutalisk which means getting mutts and making them cost effective, you must have awesome unit control so you dont lose mutalisks carelessly to the spore crawlers ! they are still the best choice as they deny map vision for your opponent, spark fear in their mind, and pick off banes and drones with care!

I think there's a window for 2 base roach speed +1 attack before 2 base mutas are out. This usually kills off the zerg going for mutas if he didnt have like 6 spines. Most zergs just assume a liar with 2 base = mutas now, with spores easily defend your base, you should take the game.

just wondering, i know it takes like 3 hits for the mutas to die from a spore, but do you think its still worth getting the armour upgrade before the attack for zvz when you have muta out?

only get the armour upgrade for mutas if your opponent is going mutas too otherwise it usually isn't worth getting any upgrades for mutas as you will only make a handful and use them for map control while transitioning into typically roaches

if you go mutalisks, u will gain more map vision..deny his third, set up a better economy..and go for hive tech to ultralisks..make sure that u have decent upgrades for ur units to steam roll your opponents ^___^ . GL HF !
