My Plantronics GameCom 777 snapped in half last night unfortunately and I am looking at getting a replacement or looking at getting a SteelSeries Siberia V2 or Tt eSports Shock Spin. What do you think I should get? The 777 did hurt my ears after long periods of gaming. I am not interested in proper headphones as my Ultrasone DJ1's do the trick - just need something sturdy for everyday game play and casting.
I too am interested in getting some new headphones. I haven't done much research so will be keen to see the responses. Decent/comfortable headphones make such a big difference!
Was really impressed with the GAMECOM head sets used at ACL Gold Coast - I think they were 777's..?
I'm sure you'll do well with any of those headsets - personally I'm looking forward to the Razer Tiamat or trying out the Carcharias. That being said, I've only heard good things about all the options you've listed above!
I think headsets are really about comfort - many of the decent ones have similar sound quality and it takes a well trained ear to notice or care about the difference of sound quality produced by the super top end headsets... For me, the most important features I look for are; a decent mic, over earmuffs, fabric (not fake leather) earmuff covering and a comfortable and adjustable headset...
Personally I dont think I will ever get a non wireless headset again. Given that I spend a lot of time on the computer. Its amazing how much of that time is dead time that if you can keep your headset on you are able to do other things. Waiting for a game you can hear the count down well you do something else. The catch is that time is expensive given that most wireless headsets come in at well over $100.
Given your options I would first look into the TT esports shock spin. See if you can hit up the people that got a free set to find out what they think pros and cons. Once you work out if its suitable you can support those that support what you like.
Great feedback so far! Thanks so much. I am even considering the SteelSeries 7H, but bang for buck the GameCom is a leader - but there is that comfort issue I have with them though. Will look up those reviews that Mayo organised for more info on the Shock Spins.
Erasmus - are they on-ear or over-ear? They look on ear which could be a comfort problem.
I bought a Siberia last week after my headphones "accidentally snapped in half" after i hulked out and threw then down after a long week and a losing streak.
The thing i love about the siberia is that little strip that accepts the weight of the headphones and sits on your head. back at work, i put them on a co-worker and he said "it is like putting on a cushion" and i really agree! because the weight is supported by the strappy thing on the top of your head, the intensity/pressure of the headset around the ears is really low.
Add to that, the cord is really long, and they look really good.
Yeah, they are more expensive than the other two. but given how many hours you spend with them on your head, why not treat yourself to the best? it is like a jogger buying the cheapest runners possible - it just doesnt make sense.
just my 2c

Siberia V2 looks really nice for what I am after. Those who have it where did you source it from? Figure I should ask here before I do extensive research. Cheers.
I am leaning towards a Siberia headset. Everyone says they are comfortable and the larger drivers are a draw card as well. The shock spin has a clip on mic which can be very annoying.
Volition, are yours the standard V2 or V2 USB? Or is the USB an extra accessory?
Rez, If you are even thinking about getting the shock spins, get the HD version thinks its about 10 bucks more, I like the shock spins for their comfyness, I can't really comment on the gamecomm, I like the Siberia v2's, my mate has a pair and they are really awesome. I got the shockspins because they were cheaper for me, but I don't have a job lol and 20 bucks difference probably isn't going to bother you lol
But in saying that I really like my shock spins they are awesome, I don't really find the clip mic annoying, only problem is that it is REALLY sensitive haha sounds like I am in a thunder storm apparently when I go to the toilet according to my school mates.
Enjoy your pick man, that is the only thing that you have to worry about

I can vouch for Beyerdynamics on being comfortable as hell. I have a DT 231 Pro myself and they sound soooooo good and are really really comfortable. Not sure about the one Erasmus recommended, but as far as I know, Beyerdynamics are worth the money.
Go to Volume in Central Melbourne, they have a massive range of headsets and you try on and can play your own music. Try before you buy & it's better to try for yourself then to ask other people. (mic's are pretty cheep to buy seperatly)
Siberia's are ok. I got mine really cheep and it's rare too ( i don't find the siberias too comfortable with my glasses because they push into my head and sometimes burn my ears.) I have tried both the v1 and v2, v2 sounds a bit better and its more comfortable but not the best for glasses for a long time. (v1 and 2).
Razer Carcharias is really nice for glasses, they don't push too far in but there better suited for big heads (i have a tiny head and they only just fit me)
But yea, try Volume, Scorptec is pretty good and they let you try the gaming headsets before you buy them. and they supply some trailers to listen too, not sure if they let you listen yo your own music though.
:P We this when Deth broke his Creative Alpha.

+1 to the SS siberia V2. only downside to it is the mic which has no noise cancellation. i personally find it quite sensitive and had to buy a wind guard for it. but for the price you pay, this headset is really the deal.
Other than the mic, i find the headset perfect. ear muffs has extremely comfortable cushions and the 'weightless' strip technology really works. No complaints for wearing the headphones for hours. sound is great too.
