[Review] Help Benji pick a new Headset!

That time of the year has come again where I must purchase a new Headset, last year Razer were nice enough to send me out a set of their sc2 gear (Headset, mouse, keyboard) and I have been using the Banshee for almost a year now, but its starting to break and get old and worn out, so time comes to replace it.

Problem is, I haven't really looked at headset for the last year or so, and I have really no idea what is good or not, so what I am asking is what headset YOU use or suggest that I look at.

What I need:
- Lightweight (Banshee is quite heavy, prefer a lighter headset than this)
- Covers the entire ear (any headset that sits on the ear is bad for long term use)
- Must Last a year of extensive use (cheap brands are a nono :P)
- Must be comfortable (most important)

What I don't really care about
- Mic (I use a seperate mic, so not a big deal)

What would be cool (not required, just something nice)
- Some form of cord management system (or a super long cord)

Thanks for the help guys

Hmmm if you don't care about the mic then do you remember the green razer headphones from NRG called Razer Orca? I thought they were pretty good.

So you are okay with just headphones, or you want a headset for the occasional use without your mic but don't necessarily need super high quality?

But anyway, go here: http://headphones.com.au/

good prices on very good headphones, and free delivery australia wide.

I use steel series siberia Very comfy. The spongy stuff around the ears seems to last as I've had it for quite a while now and after daily use it still doesn't look anything like it's going to start falling apart. It's also quite lightweight as far as I can tell...I mean I'm used to the weight of it obviously but I tend to be a person who gets headaches from heavy headsets so I think I'm right in saying that it's a good weight ^.^

Mic's decent quality too in case you ever need it. The only thing that would be endanger of breaking would be the mic however because its quite bendable and such so you can get it into whatever position you want as well as stick it back inside the headset. Considering you don't need the mic though I think it'll be fine.

Lastly it the headset can be a bit of a pain in the ass if you physically have a big head (although I think you're in the clear) because it squeezes a little. Otherwise it's the bestestestest headset ever :3

(Oh and if you're reading this thread and own a tt esports headset...tell me why they're good because I kinda wanna try one).

Just curious, are the ear parts made of a fabric or a soft fake leathery kind of product?

I've had the fabric ones for a while, and they get very dirty quickly :S

I can vouch for the Steelseries Serbia headset, really comfy can wear them all day and not feel pain.

I guess it would hurt if you have big ears or something, I don't think the head covering thing is all that big but it should be big enough though :P

Shock Spin or Shock Spin HD.

Covers over your ear, 50mm Neodynimum speakers (for good quality), good bass for music, I wear them all day at work so they are comfy, separate mic with a clip.
The HD is 7.1 and connects via USB to be 7.1, if you want this sometimes and not others, it works with 3.5mm jacks without the 7.1.
The non-HD is forever 2.0, connects via 3.5mm jacks.

the mic picks up background noise, if you are in a noisy environment it might be bad. But you don't need a mic anyway

PiG, yang, infeza and Arnor all use the Spins, ask them other info if you need. Or ask me.

Cheapest HD: http://www.umart.com.au/newindex28.p...id=2&sid=83164

It does come in Red, White and Black though, depends what colour you want.

I bought a pair of astro A30's, from the guys that sponsor MLG. It's basically the best headset I have ever owned, the only downside is that they are pricy, but other than that they are incredibly lightweight, sound really good and feel like a part of your head. Plus you can make your own custom starcraft speaker tags, I have a hydralisk and a master league symbol.

If you care much about listening to music or anything with your headphones then definitely going to recommend something like the Audio Technicas Mile's recommended. One of the most highly recommended headphones available for the price.

I personally use the Sennheisser's (currently rocking the HD558's) cause I think they sound close enough (despite being more expensive) and are more comfortable, and I wear my headphones for long periods at times.

I Studied audio engineering for 3 years, so i have a thing for studio headphones.

I have a Beyerdynamic DT880 32ohm that I use at home, stays at home all the time and i use these when i do audio stuff because it has that studio quality frequency response. (If you're willing to fork out like $400) If not, the "industry standard" for mixing headphones is beyerdynamic dt100 (dt109s if u want a mic). They're reasonable price, good quality and great headphones. (they were in every classroom studio too)
Other 'hi-fi' brands ie Bose & Sony don't get you the quality from those specific studio headphones, but you pay just as much.

Everywhere else i take shock spins, they're super light for circumaural headphones and easily transportable

Quick Comments
 dippa:
beyerdynamics are the shit.

I have a gamecom head set.. very comfortable and decent sound quality.. mic is also pretty decent for the price.

And the ones that were available at ACL (new gamecom headsets) were also quite good!!
Plus gamecom support eSports - so that is a big plus from me..
Other than that shock spin from Tt seem awesome (Tt also get behind eSports YAY!)

Good luck!

I honestly can't remember, I think I paid the shipping as I was a lot richer at the time.

I agree with the chad ^^ I got a pair of 367 ( I think its them) for 47$ NZ faaaar man, amazing sound quality great afforability and real good ergonomical experience. Although I have never used any of Tt's Gamecom I really think is value for money and extremely good performance. (At least mine are )

I had a Steelseries 7H - it broke. So did it's replacement. The multiple points you can disassemble it from are nifty for carrying it around, but mean that there are that many more points of failure.

Currently using a Razer Carcharias. It's comfortable as hell, has a nice long braided cable, and has not yet broken.

I'm using a Roccat Kave atm, its really comfy + has nice sound qual. (Atleast from my experience, ive used the Steelseries 7H and some old Gamecom one)
The cable is decent length and i've never had any problems with it.

http://www.roccat.org/Products/Gamin...CCAT-Kave-5-1/

i only found out they existed after Homestory cup 4 last year, when i was looking for new stuff, its lasted me well since then.
