With the PS4 essentially confirmed to be unveiled in a bit less than two days, what are people's thoughts on the "next gen" of gaming consoles? What are people thinking Sony will unveil with their consoles?
I'm personally expecting to see what the box looks like, some very generic specs, maybe details on one or two launch titles.
It's going to take something pretty damn special to get me to fork out for either this or Microsofts new console. I spent last gen with my Wii and PC, and found this the best thing for me. I got the awesome first party Nintendo exclusives as well as all the stuff that came to PC, generally better than the console versions (Except you GTA4 >.>). All that I really wanted that I couldn't get were a handful of JRPGs for PS3. I can see myself doing the same this gen.
How about you guys!
This article has a pretty decent overview of all the rumours/leaks/speculation so far, but nothing will be known for certain until (almost positively) tomorrow
So long as they don't do any stupid shit like locking the game copies to one console (which has been talked around the interwebs lately) I'll be looking forward to it.
Though, in all honesty ever since I've gone into PC gaming I've generally found it a LOT more comfortable to play online than on a console for some reason. So basically any game that can come out on PC that isn't a Sandbox/RPG/fighting I would play on a PC than a console.
But there are and will be games that I think would come out on the PS4 that would make me want to get it, which is why I'd be looking forward to it.

Always wanted a PS so I might pick one up, just not keen on spending like a grand to get started on a new console. Price drove me away from the PS3, I hope it is like that article says, and around the $400 mark.
I really hope i can play all the final fantasy games without changing console
got a free PS3 years ago and I hoped for the longest time they would let me play my friends ps2 final fantasy games... but they never enabled backwards compatibility and that PS3 has never actually had a game played on it. My parents still have it running as a media server..
Erasmus, you might have gotten one of the models that got the PS2 backwards capability taken off.
The very first ones (60GB, "thousand bucks gg I am now broke") had it, and due to the costs of having the backwards on it they took it off for the next ones.

Rumours are saying that Sony will allow PS3 games to be compatible on PS4. If that is true, i might stick to a PS3. High chances that the rumour will be true or they will have a problem producing PS3 and 4 and the same time.

Well... The first model had hardware support for PS2 compatibility. This was removed in the second models to cut costs (40/80GB i think) but they had software emulation.
They then decided to stop including this software emulation because they wanted to keep selling PS2s that they weren't making a loss on.
The free one I got was the third release which had no support. :/
the FFX remake is for vita from what I have heard
PS3 80GB version 1s had the ps2 support - which was done via hardware. When sony did the price drop they pulled that hardware to help lower the cost
Im curious about PS4 as PS3 and PC combo was the best for me. I had a 360 for Mass Effect but when that came to PC i hardly touched it again and eventually sold it.
PS3 has lots of nice exclusives and I assume there will be more for PS4
I also heard the FFX remake is for PS3 as well, not just the Vita.. but then again I would get the Vita just to play that game while on the go. It's that perfect to me.

It's for Vita but may end up on PS3 too I think. Screenies came out a day or so actually. I was pretty disappointed tbh. Doesn't look much better at all really. Still, hopefully it introduces a new generation to the majesty that is ffx.
In regards to backwards compatibility, I kinda doubt it. They aren't going to put the Cell in this thing, would cost too much, and I doubt it would be powerful enough for software emulation of PS3 games.
Used to be a massive console gamer. Then I got SC2 and Dota 2. Haven't touched them since.
Usually the game selection on launch is pathetic. So I will wait until the console comes down in price, there are 5 games that I want that won't be on PC, and they're not failures.
So far Wii U is off the list. Heard nothing but bad things about that.
Never got a PS3, so might get a PS4 to play some PS3 games as well. Though I can't really think of any that I've absolutely wanted.
Next Xbox. Well. The 360 started off great and awesome (hardware failures aside), but lately it's become all about Kinect and ads and media related. Plus I used to be able to justify paying for online, but not anymore. So in the Xbox world, it'll have to be a gaming machine and not some multi-media jack-of-all-trades-master-of-none thing that requires paying for some features that should be free.
Also, I read a thread on reddit which was discussing an articleabout how the next generation will make or break the future of consoles. With Valve making the Steambox, and Apple apparently gonig to be making some app thing for TV's, consoles could die out to these non-gaming machines.
And for some reason i can't find that thread or article. Maybe I imagined it all.

Hardware was pretty much expected. About as good as a high end PC right now. Some devs say that the jump is bigger than PS2 > PS3 was, so I guess maybe we'll see.
Being able to stream PS1 > PS3 games is huge. Provided there is an extensive library at a reasonable price, this is a system seller for me.
Being able to record gameplay and spectate friends is neat. Makes a lot of sense with how big streaming has gotten lately.
Games shown were meh. All came from studios I don't give two damns about (except Capcom). Let's see what Konami, Platinum (who are the best modern dev studio as far as I'm concerned) and Naughty Dog can do with this bad boy.
Square Enix showing an almost year old trailer and saying that they're working on a FF game. When haven't they been working on one since the 90's >.>
D3 on console is eh. Hopefully this is a step towards Blizz making a proper console game though (GHOST PLZZZZZ)
