What a busy week it was for the clans who frequent our friendly community here at SC2SEA. The SC2SEA Clan League kicked off its first week with a flurry of matches and indeed surprising results coming from the games, aswell as / ialt aLt being the first clan to successfully defend it's crown at the top of Clan of the Hill. So read on, and find out how all the action unfolded!
Keeping it aLternative
Following last weeks 4-1 wrap up of iterror Terror Australis in the Clan of the Hill tournament, / ialt Clan aLternative were going to have to stay on top of their game in order to come out on top of the next challenges to the title, iinfi Infinity! The boys at / ialt aLt did manage to do just that, with a hard-fought 4-2 win for aLt, warding off the first of many of the coming challenges.
Yoon spawns at the top right with Revenant spawning across the chasm to the bottom left. Revenant opts to go for a hatch first build, which is under no immediate pressure from Yoon. Yoon sends out his first few marines to pressure the Zerg player, but his attacks are fended off quite easily by small groups of lings. Yoon transitions into a reactored factory to bring Hellions in on the action. However, they are unable to secure any drone kills, and only provide temporary map control.
Yoon expands in the meantime, and throws down another 3 rax, with 3 on reactors and one remaining on a tech lab to grab combat shields as stim is already done. Yoon mixes tanks into his army and starts build his 3rd CC while Revenant takes his 3rd also. Yoon pushes out with a mix of Tank / Marine / Med-v, but is held back by Revenants army of Roaches, Lings and Blings. With his 3rd secure, Revenant drones hard while keeping a burrowed ling at Yoons 3rd to prevent the CC landing. Revenant techs to Brood Lords and with not enough Vikings in the air, the Brood Lord, Roach, Infestor and Ling army move into Yoons army and catch it out of position and demolish it, as Yoon is not able to keep up with the macro of the Zerg. GG, 0-1 to iNfi.
Game 2 starts on Lost Temple, with Oxygen spawning at the top and Revenant at the bottom. Both players begin standard, with hatch first again from Revenant while Oxygen takes a quick 2nd gas and throws down a starport, indicating Banshees. However, the next move is to throw down an armory and a Thor Drop is quickly on the horizon. The cliff above Revenants natural is suddenly under control of a Thor and several SCVs to help repair. A second Thor quickly joins in the fun, while Oxygen transitions to MM at home, and all Revenant has to defend Lings and Mutas.
The Thors snipe the natural Hatchery, and while Revenant takes a hidden expo at the 3 o'clock spawn point, it matters little as Revenant is unable to hold off the MM / 2 Thor / Med-v ball, and he soon GG's.
Roz steps up to take on Oxygen on Match Point, who both say during the game that neither of them have played on it before. Oxygen spawns at the top right, Roz at the bottom left. Both players open standard, while Roz steals one of Oxygens gas. After one marine pops, Oxygen throws down a tech lab for his rax, while he proxies 2 rax outside Roz's natural.
Roz has goes 2 gate core, and after being alerted to the proxies throws down another, however Oxygen has the army advantage at this point. He moves in, and with not enough sentries to force field the entrance, he is quickly overrun, and is forced to pull probes off
the line to try and fend off the attack, which he is unsuccessful in doing.
However, Oxygen is able to out-macro Roz, and the game is over soon after. 2-1 to aLt.
Indy is the next in line, who take son Oxygen on Steppes of War. Indy spawns bottom left, Oxygen in the top right. Both players go for early double gas, indicating both are going for tech builds. Oxygen walls in his front with a depot, rax and bunker while going for a cloaked banshee rush, while Indy goes for 1 gate stargate, with void rays being the unit of choice. Indy hits, but Oxygens banshee is causing havoc at Indys main, eventually racking up 31 probe kills. Indy manages to bust through Oxygens front, but he is unable to reinforce.
Oxygen grabs out a viking and a raven to compliment his MM, and once the stalker / zealot / void ray / sentry ball falls, its gg.
3-1 for aLt and Oxygen looking solid.
Game 5 - Blistering Sands
aLtOxygen vs NEORedArchon
TvT on Blistering Sands opens with RedArchon in the bottom left and Oxygen at the top right. Both players open standard, while Oxygen grabs a fast 2nd gas, while RedArchon takes a risk and goes for 1 rax fast expand. RedArchon throws down 2 more rax, grabbing concussive grenades and stim. Back at Oxygen's base, an armory and starport go down, pointing towards another Thor rush. It does come true, but not before RedArchon knows all, with a hero reaper scouting everything and picking off a few SCVs.
The Thor and MM ball moves out for Oxygen, who is still on one base, however he is met at RA's base by a bunker and alot of MM. Oxygen is forced to move in, losing his Thor to the bunker, and the game is heavily in RA's favour.
RedArchons forces move out and a-moves towards Oxygens base. Oxygen scrambles for Tanks, however his is unable to produce enough, and it's gg. 3-2 in favour of aLt.
Game 6 - Fighting Spirit
aLtnirvAnA vs NEORedArchon
The two heavyweight SEA players nirvAna and RedArchon meet to face each other on Fighting Spirit. nirvAna spawns at the bottom right, with RedArchon at the top left. RA opens with a double rax and factory, with MM and Tanks being his unit mix for the opening of the game. nirvAna has different ideas, and opts for double gas and a 1 gate fast expand. As nirvAnAs expansion finishes, he throws down more gateways and a robotics bay, while RedArchon is moving towards nirvAnAs base with 2 tanks and a MM ball. RA throws down a bunker infront of his tanks, however as one of his tanks unsieges, nirvAnA acts quickly and crushes the attack and takes a 3rd base, while RA only just begins his natural expansion CC.
nirvAnA, with a Zealot, Stalker, Sentry and Immortal army moves towards RA's base. A lone Siege Tank sits above the MM ball on a cliff, which nirvAnA promptly drops with Immortals thanks to a warp prism, and RA's army is unable to hold off the superior Protoss forces.
GG, 4-2 to aLt.
