With wT Weekly completing for 2012 with a successful final week we will be having a few weeks off over Chrismas and New Years to review the year from an admin side of things. We would love to hear the community's feedback. We want to bring a tournament which will satisfy the wants of you all so your feedback is invaluable be it positive or negative.
Whether you played, administrated, donated, watched or didn't even know it existed - thank you for your support for wT Weekly in 2012.
What started out as a weekly tournament run by Winter Nights (wT), unfortunately fell to a halt 12 weeks after creation due to a variety of reasons. The timing was great as I was just starting on my eSports journey and requested to manage and commentate the wT Weekly from week 13 onwards.
As the weeks went on, so did the publicity of the tournament attracting more and more people and before we knew it the prize pool doubled from $20 to $40. Soon thereafter SC2SEA.com came on board making badges for winners of the tournaments and we extended from a 64 bracket system to a 128.
29 weeks later we arrived at our final weekly for the year peaking at 180 viewers and attracting international interest in majOr and some of the biggest names in SEA. It has been a pleasure to continue the weekly and has been a great stepping stone in my personal development.
I personally would like to thank each and every admin and donator (especially Cute who has donated to every single weekly) as I am only one of half a dozen people who make wT Weekly happen each week.
I will apologise personally for when we weren't able to start the weekly on time or when there were hiccups with the brackets and I thank the community for their understanding.
I hope we can find a way to continue to improve wT Weekly moving forward and the generosity of the community doesn't stop. I look forward to hearing your feedback and would like to reiterate my involvement in bringing wT Weekly to the community is only made possible by the generosity of others.
How about a rule so encourage the newer players to shine. e.g no kingkong winning every week. Some people said one of the cool parts of the CO was that it brought fame to new players. It was their chance to shine and then all the winners were recruited to aLt.

Yeah aLt is becoming dead because we can't recruit the winners of the CO anymore!!
Maybe the lack of feedback is because no one can find any faults with how it is right now. Personally, I think it would be nice if the prize was split so it isn't "winner takes all", but that's just me.

You so nice!

I agree with the winner takes all setup leaves something to be desired as a 2nd brought you a pat on the back in 2012.
There will be a redesign of the structure of wT Weekly and although I cannot confirm if there will be a change to the prize pool distribution each week I can confirm coming 2nd will account for something. I look forward to unveiling it once it is all confirmed, hopefully by new years.
Feedback is still greatly appreciated because although there will be a change to the structure, making sure the tournament is run as smoothly and successfully as possible each week is still of interest.

Only so much feeding Mafia or KingKong their lunch each week before it gets boring!
I don't really know how to make wT Weekly work inside of the direction I am taking it as well as ensuring there are different winners each week as I want the weekly to be a community event without league caps and without punishment for people consistently playing.
I am not sure what direction Zepph want's to take her community event, if it is still in planning. I am leaning towards having wT Weekly run parallel with Masters Cup in terms of one of the more prestigious events on the SEA calendar.
imo bo3s should start earlier they started ro8 this past year right? perhaps start them at ro16, not sure how that would go time wise i know MC does them earlier.

I like this as a point of discussion.
With Bo1 until Ro8, then Bo3 onwards with a Bo3/5 finals we often found players wanted to do a Bo3 finals because the tournament would finish quite late.
To facilitate Bo3 from Ro16 onwards I feel like we would need to start it an hour earlier.. but then the question is would an earlier start time affect availability and is it wanted overall.
In 2012 weeklies ran for ~3hrs with a 64- player pool so I would assert starting Bo3 a round earlier would take it up to ~4 hours.
well thats a good point WT usually started pretty late like 7.30? which means for NZ people it goes past midnight even with out the bo3s at ro16 perhaps an earlier time?
Maybe, (just as a thought) separate the divisions of the bracket so lower leagues arent vsing GM's in the first rounds and it will also make it a bit harder for GM's to advance. Some people may dislike they idea, but as i stated it was just a thought

I'll be the first to admit seeding wasn't even remotely organised in 2012 (except for the final one where I individually seeded).
Seeding is something I will be standardising in 2013 to make it as fair as possible. The idea of the seeding is to have the top 16 vs each other as late as possible into the tournament. As a result they will vs lower seeded players, likely knocking them out until the top 16 has to vs each other.
Seeding lower vs lower and higher vs higher would be better off having two separate events. Due to BSGs and GPDs there are already tournaments which are better suited to cater for this and the people running them do an excellent job!
The thing that has me feel like I am making a difference with lower leagues still is by the feedback I get sometimes when I talk with people.
Comments such as "I made Round of 16 in wT Weekly for first time this week!" has me feel like lower league players can use wT Weekly as a rough showing of where they are at in their development. Although they may never have a chance at the moment in winning, they can see how far they get each week as a weekly training opportunity. It also allows them to play against better players which could give insight into new strategies/execution etc.
I personally don't want to have to deal with a BSG tournament because I know how much effort has to go into avoiding smurfing and I don't really have the time (or the patience) to deal with that
Feel free to provide ideas for how to get the best of both worlds though!
Yeah i disagree with you GA It should be the other way around GMs playing lower level players so people like mafia dont get knocked out round 1.
Perhaps a point system would be good in regards to seeding, i am not sure how the MC does their point system but for example top 8 get points 80 for first 10 for 8th. Every week you seed based on points 1st seed goes to the person with highest points etc. Perhaps people could get 10 points just for joining so people that do the tournament every week get better seeding.

We have confirmed we will be using a point based seeding system next year but I was originally only going to have top 16 get points but I really like the idea of having points just for signing up (have to play a game to receive the points, straight walk-over no points).
I'll bring that up with the admin team I have no doubt we can make it work. Promotes weekly play and rewards it. Great suggestion!
definitely ppl are losing passion in sc2.
maybe lol, or maybe infestor(lol)
its a tournament that is much better than SEACL.
tried 6m1g, new maps etc.
and always accept challenger over the world
let's hope winfestor is changed in 2013
