Hey guys i'm TNClouD from Team Nights, havnt been making many post on here due to work and training. Recently i have had a thought that wouldnt it be good to have a clan war to be set up just like the GSTL where there are booths and streams with casting and an audience, a live event where SEA clans can duke it out infront of hundreds of people, Korea has taken the first step and i think we as the SEA community can get this going to, i live in sydney and i would really love to help get this type of event to happen. I would really like to see SEA become more recognised around the world please give me your thoughts. I know that this might be costly but we can try to get something liek this done with lower cost for example no booths just use an isolated room for the players and rent out a big hall, get a group of dedicated people to help set this up and i think its worthwhile not jsut so i think if this could work then sponsors will start to recognise clans of SEA more.
We can cover our losses by gettiing prices for the tickets entry and also we can do a buy in for each team that enters which will become part of the prize pool, imagine 16 teams each team buy in is ten dollars per person with 10 people per team thats $160.00 x 16, Just wanting to have this idea out there and i think that this can be done so hope you guys look into it and i really wanna create a team of dedicated people to organise this thanks SEA community^^ TNClouD♥
The problem with this is while all the GSTL teams live in the same area, all the Aussie boys are spread over an entire country. I'd love for something like this to happen, but this shit is expensive, yo. You're proposing each team buys their way in, well what about flight tickets? Very expensive all together.

It definitely is a good idea - and something that might happen down the track, but as has already been mentioned, SEA teams don't have the same financial backing that the pro Korean teams have, not too mention geographical difficulties and the non-existence of real 'team houses' per se. I like your idea and would love to see it happen, but I definitely think it will happen further down the track as the SEA scene develops more and more.
When we use the word SEA here, it seems as if we're using it to describe just Australia. SEA actually covers a few other countries as well, such as the Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, NZ and more. Also with Australia being such a large country geographically, it makes it almost impossible to have a scheduled live GSL/GSTL type tournament. This isn't factoring in the immense production costs either.
What people have said is exactly right. Even if we could fund the event, the cost of flights for players + whoever else as well as entry fees would be too much for our teams. For an event like this, you probably wouldn't get a good enough amount of exposure for it to pay off unless you did something crazy (e.g. tastosis at WCS) to bring the attention which, once again, would be an added cost.
Aside from this, I'm not sure if you mean clans or teams. Honestly, you will not get "hundreds of people" for clans. Clans are clans for a reason...they are full of up and coming players that are not sponsored. Of course, some clans do have sponsored players in them but pitting clans against each other would have an imbalanced number of pro players (e.g. TA has a lot of our strongest players in it).
If you're speaking about teams, I don't think we even have 16 pro teams in SEA. Even if we do, a lot of these teams don't have a big enough roster for a team league. iM, and Nv (I think) have only 4 players so far which is only enough if it's bo7 format. I think Teknicity has only 3, while a team like cR has a fair few more players on it.
Basically what I'm getting at is aside from costs, it's extremely difficult to attract a big enough audience to a SEA competition without going all out. I also don't feel like it's the best way to showcase our talent because we just don't have the numbers between teams (Which are the ones that we want to be promoting). Furthermore, to make it a regular thing and expect a crowd every time is unrealistic because there is no central location everyone can get to. Spectators, like players, also have a lot of other commitments which would make it impossible to have a fixed date on which a GSTL like tourney could successfully run regularly.
I think things like xGTL are the better way. Keep it online and mix with those closest to us. The teams playing in that league have gotten good exposure to china, taiwan and a bit of korea as well which is the best we can hope for in terms of an international audience due to time zones.
The only way this would be viable would be to have the event run alongside a nationals as like a novelty kind of tournament
Unfortunately, the way events are currently run means there is never enough spare time or equipment that would facilitate anything other than the main tournaments themselves
You guys are right, the fact that I have left out the entire region besides aus really puts the idea to rest but then again I totally agree with you guys that reports really needs to grow more in the sea server before anything big like this could really haPpen alongside with teams coming I with spOnsors.
