First off I would like to ask if anyone has been fiddling with this? Would love to collaborate
Aside from this I have a couple of tidbits: we should be getting the blizzard custom UI's (should) but the biggest thing... Someone has created a list of all the editable frames within the UI and what commands are usable with said elements. So I leave them here with a big shoutout to sc2mapster and JademusSreg
I was playing with it a bit but there are 2 big limitations which are a bit of a bummer
1) You can't create animated frames of any kind which really does hurt the polish of the UI, they're all Flash based and Blizzard doesn't provide the ability to import them and provides no samples even if you could
2) As far as I'm aware you can't use any triggers for the custom UI mod type, so I have no idea how blizzard did their score counter or intends us to surface anything which isn't part of the normal observer UI (ie score counters, team graphics etc)
I've put a fair bit of time into this, and i'm not very impressed so far. Even the unofficial documentation doesn't seem to work all the time. The lack of real time visualisation is the biggest kick in the shin I think, as actually learning what every does + loading up the test client is the biggest time sink in history.

Yeah this is also a pain in the ass, though a proper visual layout designer was shown at Blizzcon 2011 and is meant to be released eventually.

Yea I have been able to do 'some' stuff but not that much really considering what Blizzard demonstrated. Hence wondering what everyone else has been able to do with it.
Without ability to add custom features - namely animations - and without ability to develop quickly via layout designer like dingo mentions I think custom maps and existing overlays will stay the choice for many tournaments
