So... some of you may know that my old PC has been down for awhile and since it was old I decided to get a new one, and have been waiting for it for a week now!
I got a custom built one from fortran, a very highly recommended forumer on HWZ (a tech forum for SG). Everyone was saying how good he was, how friendly he was, etc. So i decided to try him out!
Ok I know some of you tech geeks are just waiting to see the specs and don't care for my storytelling, so here they are:
So there I was waiting at home for his arrival, wondering what he's like. Ding dong. Doorbell rang - I opened the door to a guy with a friendly disarming face.. don't know how quite to describe it! But just wasn't what I expected. He looked so harmless! LOL.
Anyway, he came in and assembled my CPU on the spot, as we chatted and he patiently gave me all the info about warranty, advice about computer care, etc. He was polite to a fault, probably said 'Thank you' like 50 times for the time he was there for every small thing lol.
After setting up everything and installing/updating drivers, he let me check the various hardware parts before I paid him. As he left, like a good tuition teacher, he numbered off 3 tips that he had been saying throughout the time he was there
- Don't move your CPU while your computer is on - affects HDD
- Don't remove USB stuff (e.g. external HD) without doing the 'Safely Remove Hardware' thing - also affects HDD
- Oh no I can't remember the last one
A very good experience! Nice, friendly and polite guy, now the whole thing would be perfect if my PC doesn't break down for 219387 years. Certainly lives up to his rep!
SOOO now I am impatiently waiting for SC2 to patch up everything so I CAN GET ON LADDER AND PLAY SOME GAMES AFTER 60+ DAYS OF NOT PLAYING ZOMG
Decent specs for that price considering he would have been paid for labour. You should really learn how to assemble a computer yourself though, you could have built something (mathematically theoretically) better for the same price if you put it together yourself.
But hey, if the PC works how you want and you're completely satisfied then that's fine too! ^_^V
Good luck on ladder, hope I meet you on there soon ;D

Re: New Rig up!
@elimzke I may just add you up for practice
@souljah heh I'm usually too shy for this kinda thing, my wow guild group had quite a few meetings and i didn't go despite knowing one of em IRL. But if it's a big SG meetup for sc2sea peeps I'll definitely consider!
And I'll prob make a blog once I hit Plat, but I'm rollling through lower gold leagues ATM, hope I get some high gold/Plat opponents soon! E.g. prev game I had about 200 food of banelings(minus workers) before ending the game :/
