idea for sc2sea, how about a weekly online show?

look at Desrow and LateNight sc2 shows, pretty popular, gets thousands of viewers.

Anyone ever suggest a weekly show to talk about the SC2 SEA scene? Lots of topics, keep it short maybe an hour long, with skype invites... maybe go over a memorable game, etc?

If it's scheduled people could start tuning in regularly and numbers could grow...

There actually was one at some point, with SEA pros and other important people. Cant remember what it was called, but it'd likely be the same show if it were to be done again.

The main problem will be finding someone to give the time to get this setup.
They'll also need to bring a pretty decent level of production value just to get people to watch, I think the amount of possible content could fill a weekly talk show.

I'd have to say Pox would be the perfect person to be on the show as host (or co-host?). c:

You need producers, Pox and Metalcore both put up good production and their ends. It needs to be co sistent. Be planned. Each week have people who have something to say, who are opinionated about the scene and knowledgable

I would like to be part of something like this...I think Pox would be great as someone already mentioned. ChadMann is a great person to have on these shows as well.

i would not like to see it go the way of Desrows show....its so pushed by drama...i would like to see issues talked about that affect the game, our community and the wider community.

Freedom. Add me to skype and lets talk

I remember this show PassionCraft done by Stitch if I'm not wrong, where he got to know the person's passion, how it started and what he intends to do in the future etc. etc.. But didn't it die together with Nick, after the first episode?

Yeah, I remember watching PassionCraft before. I enjoyed watching the first episode with nick as the guest, was eager to see more videos but sad that it dieded out after... It was also the time when I was new in the community so watching these types of videos made me know more bout the community... Hope we can get something like it running

Why?

We have a tiny scene, everyone that would bother watching this would already know everything going on due to sc2sea/skype chats etc, and we don't have the star power to draw in an outside audience.

I'd prefer to not see this again devolving into an embarrassing circlejerk masterclass.

Maynarde suggested, which I thought was a good idea, just a 10-20min review of the Scene every 2-3 weeks to post on reddit/tl. Have people like Soundwave and Crescendo who are already pretty well in touch with the on goings of the scene to give a quick spiel. I'm not totally against that idea. I agree that a show like Remax/TLS which is over 3-4hrs is a waste of time.

You give me far too much credit. I do interviews because I know nothing and want to learn more =D

Why not try? And it's not for you deth who already knows. It's for those who are curious, they tune in. You know, new audience. And who knows u might tune in anyway to see interviews and what they say.

In the same way I was curious about SEA and I joined. I could've been brought in years ago if there was such a show. It's kinda like Breaking Out tournaments in NA, guys like intense/kelazhur/etc. get exposure.

And there is star power in the PIMP squad and yes EnDerr, he was the one who got me into this sc2sea. People will be curious about them and their roots and in turn highlight others. They might even join in the tournaments.

Any extra exposure is good for the scene that is so small "only a select group that will tune in, already know anyway". Besides as Philo said, we want to be different with high quality short content. No harm there.

Anyway if you guys don't like it, it will fail... at least we can say we tried.

Deth is absolutely right, this idea would be great if we had more active people from SEA involved is sc2, perhaps we should be looking into trying to grow the scene further to begin with. Kinda hard with the costs involved, I wonder if blizzard helps out at all with people interested in growing the scene.

But I think then you get into a whole catch-22 situation. We need more people in SC2SEA in order to justify making material which would bring more people to SC2SEA which we need more people to make.

No harm in trying the idea out. I also think drama is a good thing for the podcast, I don't know why people are so against it. Obviously having guests go at each others throats wouldn't be too good but discussing the same old bland topics of balance, maps, and tournaments is lame. Especially if you end up with a panel of random no names or mid masters players (...or even GPD as has happened before iirc).

I think one of our major problems...is that our contributors don't cross post on Reddit or Teamliquid..so we are just producing content for ourselves instead of showing people

"Hey, Look, NA/EU, we have a thriving community which does shit better than you, you fcking lazy fcks" or something something Javert.

But seriously. Interviews, weekly updates are all good if we cross post them to other areas...and while it might only start as a trickle effect (oh god, its Neoliberal Economics) even just a few people enterting our scene from abroad might help.

It might also help if we made more of an effort of welcoming new people to our scene. We are massively circle-jerkish, We're elitist with our in-jokes and our rivalries which people on the outside don't really understand.....Like they could make a film about our massive circle jerk (Shout out to Infeza...seriously jks, I love that guy). People who might discover us by accident or something might find this difficult territory to negotiate, especially if they are new to Starcraft...and so they leave, without really getting to know how awesome our community is...and /rant

Quick Comments
 ThatGuyDoMo:
Philo summed it up. We are an intimidating, circlejerk of a group sometimes.
 x5.Crescendo:
Agreed with the cross-posting. I'll be starting on that soon, cross-posting Behind The Username there as well as here.

I don't think it's an issue of people not knowing SEA exists, SEA has the worst reputation for being the most underpopulated server and having the worst players, making a show will not bring in outsiders unless our situation changes. No one wants to learn from the worst, no one cares what the worst players are doing, it's even a detriment to our current player base inviting foreigners to our tournaments as it makes it less likely for our good players to compete as they know they don't stand a chance. (With except to PiG and Iaguz.) But for some reason we're willing to substitute our players from competing just to get more views on twitch which kills growth completely.

Gaming is freakin huge instead of focusing our resources on players who already know the scene, and are already against even the notion of SEA we should be trying to bring in new players to grow the scene, more noob friendly tournaments, more incentives for clans, you say we have a thriving community but I don't see it, we probably have less than 300 active players that play in tournaments from SEA that use the website we need more and we're not going to get them by creating content targeted at our existing users, who are already playing the game...

Exactly. All resources that would be put into something like this could be far better used even on instructional/coaching videos to help new players, while plugging SC2SEA at the same time.

This all just seems like a false dichotomy. I don't see how this can't at the very least be attempted by people who want to give it a stab and also have it not cut into "instructional/coaching videos" or whatever other content people want to make for promoting SEA....

You can do both.

EDIT: It also just seems like a pile of fun to me...it could be a success without necessarily drawing in new people to the community, but maybe it will keep people interested in the scene. I know I would tune in even though I have pretty much nothing keeping me to this website. Just Do It - Nike
