We’re excited to announce that access to the North American Battle.net servers will be available following the release of StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty Patch 1.1.0. With this patch, the in-game region selector will be made available so a separate download will not be necessary to access the NA region.

Q: Who is eligible to play on the North American servers? How much will this cost?
A: All players, including those in the regions of Hong Kong and Macau, who purchase the English Southeast Asia/Australia/New Zealand standard or Collector’s Edition of StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty will have the option of playing on the North American Battle.net servers in addition to the Southeast Asia/Australia/New Zealand servers. The option to play on North American Battle.net servers will come at no additional cost to players who have purchased the Southeast Asia/Australia/New Zealand version of StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty.

Imo, this is gonna benefit the players greatly but also seriously hurt the growth of the SEA server/communnity, don't know if it was wise for blizzard to implement this so early since they have a substantial investment in SEA already.

Ya .. well Blizzard did inform us that in will be implemented within the 60 days after the official released.

Yea the key positive of having the SEA server was a lagless environment, with the minus being the small player database.

However alot of the NZ/Au players get terrible terrible lag. Throw in the 10x bigger player database making it alot easier to get games factor and its a no brainer switch for alot of people.

Yeah, I don't think it's because SEA has bad quality games - I don't buy into all the hype about other servers presenting less 'one-basing' that's all rubbish, there is plenty of room for improvement on SEA and it is developing a fantastic community. One massive problem is the optus to SEA traffic which is continuously causing me grief, not because I want to become a progamer or anything like that, but it ruins the element of fun if you're whole army is cleaned up by a storm because it takes you half a second longer to click away thanks to almost 500 ping on a stable optus connection.

With optus refusing to invest in better infrastructure to the asian region (I don't see why not, most of our business derives from Asia these days, gaming would just be an ancillary benefit) the NA server should be much better for those of us on an optus connection. So this is definitely fantastic news for me, thanks for the share!

And so the time has come for me to train my zerg on the NA server. Maybe I'll force a bronze and work my way up from there, that way I get more time to pull out all sorts of builds and stuff.
