This is a guide on how to setup a VPN (virtual private network) which will improve your streaming quality from GOM TV.

The GSL is without a doubt the best Starcraft tournament in the world, I've supported them since the open seasons gladly and will continue to do so, yet for the past few months many people (myself included) have been experiencing noticeably worse streaming from their website for their VOD's.
Even if you have the best internet money can buy you can still be stuck buffering for SQ VOD's to load on their website.

How did this happen?

The first interruptions to their service came in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. A tremendously powerful weather event that brought New York, Hollywood ships and even GOM's servers to their knees.
Since then their service quality has never quite been the same, and a lot of people have been struggling with horrible performance from their VOD's.

The Fix: A VPN

A VPN is a private network that uses a public network (usually the Internet) to connect remote sites or users together. The VPN uses "virtual" connections routed through the Internet from the business's private network to the remote site or employee. By using a VPN, businesses ensure security -- anyone intercepting the encrypted data can't read it.

With the ever tightening monitoring and control's being placed on the internet a VPN is becoming a necessity to experience it completely free and open. A VPN will allow you to hide your history on the internet free from prying eyes whether they are the government or your ISP.
And whats more important here they also allow you to choose what region of the world the internet thinks your located at, allowing you to use country specific content and websites like HULU and Netflix without an issue. This is the important part for GOMTV.

Search for Setup VPN

Using the Details your VPN gives you create a connection. Pick the server thats most relevant to your interests.

Enter your connection details

locate the vpn

Click connect

name and pass word and your ready to rock and roll.

I'm an australian based in NSW with TPG.
I use BTGuard as my VPN and they give me an option of 3 different servers, one based out of Europe, Singapore and Canada.
The ping to Europe and Singapore where terrible for me so i settled with the Canadian server with a respectable ping of 260.
To test the pings an easy way to do it is to set up your VPN and then use Speedtest.net to test how good your connection to that VPN is, and lower ping is better.


Now why does this make your GSL stream better?
There are two possible reasons.

The GSL vod servers perform worse for certain country's at certain times because they're favoring other more populated areas
Or
It's faster for your internet to route through Canada or America because the connections between them and Korea are infinitely superior, so even though it takes longer to reach their servers it's actually better because of the speed of the connections between the two country's.

Now your all ready to finally watch the GSL as it was intended to be watched, at the highest quality your internet connection allows.
