So after four intense days of nerd balling, giving rise to some amazing games of Starcraft 2 and possibly one of the best gifs ever made, IEM Cologne Season VII has come to a close with LG-IMMVP taking home the $6,500 first prize. MVP managed to defeat Team Acer’s Nerchio in the Grand Finals with a score of 3-1. Taking second place, Nerchio pocketed a handy $3,300, whilst viOLet and VortiX each took home $1,700.
~SEA Fighting~
Our SEA heroes, despite not making it out of the group stages, battled hard throughout the tournament. Our adopted-Australian Kristoffer “MFTargA” Marthinsen started his open bracket campaign in tremendous fashion, beating ST_Ace with a score of 2-1, and Team Fnatic’s Oz with a score of 2-0. TargA then managed to take a game off of the eventual winner, LG-IMMVP, before falling 2-1 and unfortunately being knocked out of the open bracket by Grubby.
After having MVP and his teammate LG-IMNestea added to his already difficult group, Jared “Tt.PiG” Krensel was always going to have a rough time of it. PiG fought valiantly managing to break his deadlock of 0 game wins in international tournaments, by taking a game from Team Millenium’s Feast, but unfortunately could not progress from his group.
Team Gamecom Nv’s Andrew “mOOnGLaDe” Pender looked promising throughout his group stages. Glade fell narrowly 2-1 to Grubby early on in the group stages, before stomping ST_Bomber in an emphatic 2-0 rout. Unfortunately, Glade fell painstakingly short of progressing, needing to take just 1 more game from either elfi or sLivko to progress.
In what was a very exciting tournament, all of our SEA participants represented our scene well on the global stage, and the future looks bright for SEA eSports.
