Been watching many VODS this week and ive noticed that many players open up differently up to the 14 supply point. I can only assume these people have tested their opener and believe it to be the most efficient. Anyone got any views on this?
I played out a little test. 3 games of a 9 sup, 1extractor and then double extractor using a 15 hatch 15 pool build with a queen as soon as pool pops and try to get buildings as soon as money allows without idle drones and returning mins to hatch
this is what i found
Double extractor (over lord at 10)
Hatch: 2.16, 2.15, 2.14
SP: 2,43, 2,41, 2,41
Queen 3.51, 3.50, 3.48
Single extractor(over lord at 10)
Hatch: 2.15, 2.13, 2.12
SP: 2,40, 2,37, 2,39
Queen 3.46, 3.43, 3.45
As far as i can make out, the dextractor is the slowest with the 9 sup being fastest to get these buildings/units out
all have same drone count by the 20 sup. My personal conclusion is i like the single extractor as i dont seem to be sat there waiting as much with the other two. Any pro got any definitive answer for this.

I don't think it really matters as far as I know. I've heard that people do single extractor trick so they have an extra drone to help stop a 6 pool (might just be a bunch of bs for all I know) But I'm pretty sure none of it really matters at the end of the day.
Someone on TL did a more indepth test on this with 9 Overlord being the best, just by the smallest amount. Extractor trick was better in brood war i think (dont quote me on this!) so people still do it because of that.
9 overlord you dont lose any minerals, so its best in the long run.
11 overlord after single extractor trick gives you a temporary mineral boost, but isnt good in the long run. This means it isn't good for 15hatching off, but if you're about to do a more agressive build, it can make it come faster, such as a 14g14p.
But the difference is tiny, I havent found that it matters too much.
