[All] Questions

at this point i get the feeling the admins have most things sorted and the time for input (for this season) is pretty much over. other thread is still there for non admins who actually want to express opinions.

just hoping for clarification on a couple of potential issues whenever admins have time to answer...

what will be the rules about:

-adding players to a roster mid season?

-trading players between rosters mid season?

-race picking?

-deciding on maps/players in each game of the match?

-changing the day/time of Bo3s or the entire match? do all players for match have to start at same time?

also, is the current plan for all matches to be thursday nights?

Thanks for your questions Zealo

For your last 2 questions I believe specific details on formats will be released as we get closer to the date.

As for the first 3 they should be included in the Rules soon, CC: Frogmite /nirvAnA!

I would like to ask about a rule as well: If Team A is against Team B, and only Team A can make it on the default playing time, and they cannot schedule another time that is good for both of them, what happens? In BSGCL we were sometimes forced to play on not-so-ideal dates because the other team couldn't fix a time where we both had all our players, and we ended up playing with them having a full roster and us having less than the required amount of players.

I feel that it would be easier for both teams and admins if there was one (or two) strict playing dates and the teams needed to stick with those dates, because there wouldn't be any issues with teams not being able to fix a good time, etc. Just my thoughts.

That's a good question you raise Fullstop, and is also one that I have in mind. AFAIK I think there will indeed be a fixed day for games to occur, as there are 'official streams' for each Tier and stuff.

I'll let Frogmite/nirvAnA clarify this.

P.S. If this thread gets maaannny questions I'll compile them in my post above for easier reference.

I have something to ask, are any of the rules up to the individual admins who are overseeing their own section/tier of the league? Say if I help out with tier 2 can I have a different rule system to what the admin for tier 1 or 3 might use?

Quick Comments
 Zealo:
no reason different tiers need same rules

I haven't consulted with the team yet but this is my take of it which is a rouge indication so these rules are subject to change, upon what we discuss when frogmite etc get back which we will soon make into official rules.

FAQ

Can I add players to a roster mid-season? Can I trade players between rosters mid-season?
Yes, this sounds reasonable and there will probably a one week window in the middle of the season where you can transfer or add players.

Can I switch races mid-season?
You can switch races any time throughout the season but will have to play your set according to the race you submitted in the match day submission lineup, as the opponent might have prepared for it. Can you change your race for the next week? Yes, as long as that race is displayed in the next submitted lineup. Can you race pick after your first game during the set? No.

Is the current plan for all matches to be thursday nights?
For now we are thinking of Tuesday & Thursday so weekends can be kept free for non-starcraft activities or to prevent clashes with major tournaments like ESL, ACL, Masters cup, etc. CO will still be on Wednesday.

Changing the day/time of Bo3s or the entire match? Default matchday time?
Default day will be at a specified time on Tuesday or Thursday depending on the league you are in. The default day can ONLY be changed if BOTH teams agree, and the admin must be informed ASAP. Should you not show up on the default match day, the other team is awarded the walkover win. If you have both already agreed to change the date and should you not show up on agreed changed date, the other team is awarded the walkover win.

This is the easiet way, to specify a default time otherwise teams are going to have a headache finding a convenient time and one team usually ends up comprising at the expense of themselves. The default time forces both teams to "compromise" in a fair manner and it is also why you should have at least 8 players in your team.

Do all players for match have to start at same time?
The default is either everyone plays concurrently. But if both teams choose to play the matches one by one that is fine too but ONLY if both teams agree. This is to avoid 1) complications of different start times. 2) very long match days (5xBo3s one by one will take some time)

Are any of the rules up to the individual admins who are overseeing their own section/tier of the league? Say if I help out with tier 2 can I have a different rule system to what the admin for tier 1 or 3 might use?
No, rules (disconnecting/walkovers/etc) are to be standardised throughout the league, I don't see why there should be a different rule set. But there might be a different format or slight variations in the format. Also should an admin who belongs to the team have his team get involved into a dispute, the other admins will make the decision on what happens for fairness.

Wouldn't halfway through the week be a little awkward for the more casual players? With players coming home from work or needing to get up early the next morning. Depending on how late the games could go and all the different time zones some could end up past midnight.

That problem is solved by having all matches start concurrently. So its just a single Bo3 for a each player! Also BSGCL /PDCL last season was on Thursday I believe, thats why we decided to stick to that as casual players were normally busy on the weekends!

how far in advance do teams have to announce players? :S

could be awkward if an announced player doesn't show up cause of something last minute but there are reserve players online not allowed to play...

If games played on Thursday, lineups have to be submitted to the admin by the previous Sunday, and lineups will be out on Monday. Something like that.

As for the subs thing bigbird came up with a "joker" system which i somewhat like. Each team is entitled to use a "joker" from their team as a sub to replace their walkovers. They are only entitled to use just 2 jokes the whole season so they have to be very careful about using them. This is to prevent abuse by teams "pretending" players arent there to get a more favorable matchup or perhaps add a strategic element to it. And should they have no jokers left and their player does not show up they just get walkovered so they have to be very very careful not to misuse their jokers. Also, if a player already is playing in the matchday he cannot be used again a joker. I think this adds some flexibility to the teams in a fair way.

Still under consideration though.

Sounds good..
Tho I can see the lower leagues having difficulty with this.. as many players are only casual gamers.. Perhaps similar rules can be added as with last BSGCL season. Once the match ups are named and both managers submit their 5 players for the match the individual matches may not need to be played in one sitting but if player 4 from team A and team B both agree to play their match Friday and not Thursday, that should be okay...?

A sort of flexibility of some sort should be considered for the lower league/casual gamers....
Though maybe adding in that the ace match must be played last regardless could also be incorporated?
idk, just a few ideas...

as far as deL's question for Admins with varying rules.. this is the only thing I think would be required.. Slight customisation of the rules to suit the greater collective within that league.. BSG is more about fun and improving together.. less about the competition - This could be reflected by being more lenient on match times and walk over rulings - Players want to play the matches, winning is a bonus. Things come up with small BSG teams with a few inactive players and therefore the Admins should factor that in to the rule set applied to the teams... imo.

Really looking forward to these leagues! mad props to nirvAnA, Frogmite and all the other sexy Admins forming this..

So, we can't really cast these very easily, then. A lot of the fun before was having your teammates watching when you managed to take a win. It feels rather individual when you all just go off by yourselves and play a Bo3.

Another question suggestion for tier 4 when u announce your. Line up to play you must have them in league order from lowest to highest so when they match up it would be more likely to be even matches.

Team managers could look after individual schedules for those who want to avoid this scenario?

This is a great idea, and might be something only Tier 3 / Tier 4 have.

Yup, its up to the teams. The default is all matches are played concurrently. If both agree to play them one after the other, they can chose to do so but both managers must agree.
