Because I fulfil all of the above 5 points, I'm going to embark on a personal challenge and just checking if anyone would like to join me just for FUN. I know it's going to sound lame or cheesy or stupid or dumb to people, but this is for FUN DAMMIT so stop being a wet blanket rawr.
It's ok if noone joins me I will just do it myself then and document my own experience for your entertainment.
The challenge is : win a game with just a single type of unit the whole game.
Basic Rules:
- 1v1 only. For team games there are monobattles which is different from what I'm trying to accomplish
- Must be a Platinum or higher league opponent (reason being pulling off any of these against a new Bronze player isn't that much of an achievement) (If you're BSG and still want to try this by all means )
- Must be a proper game (i.e. having your friend just hold position his units doesn't count. He shouldn't know what you're trying to do. Your opponent should have half a brain and be trying to win)
- Save a replay!
Just going to list out the possibilities I can think of: : Drones, Queens, Zerglings, Roaches, Hydralisks, Banelings, Mutalisks, Infestors, Ultralisks, Broodlords (Corruptors, Overlords/Overseers not possible) : SCVs, Marines, Marauders, Ghosts, Reapers, Hellions, Tanks, Thors, Vikings (??), Banshees, Battlecruiser
(Medivacs not possible, not quite sure how Vikings will work but in theory it is possible. Not sure if SCVs can be done) : Probes, Zealots, Sentries, Stalkers, Dark Templars, High Templars (??), Archons, Immortals, Colussus, Void Rays, Carriers
(Observers, Warp Prisms, Mothership left out. High Templar most likely has to be excluded. Not sure if Probes can be done)
Some additional clauses have to be added to make things possible.
- Queens/Workers are always allowed regardless of which unit is being used
- Progression units are allowed to be made(e.g. Zerglings for Banelings, Templars for Archons) but not to be used to attack
- For Tier 3 units (Battlecruiser, Carrier, Broodlords/Ultralisks), Tier 1 units (specifically: Marines, Zealots, Zerglings) are allowed for defensive purposes.
- For Factoryunits/Vikings, Marines are allowed for defensive purposes
- To clarify, 'defensive purposes' simply means you cannot use a mixture of Marines + X to win the game. However, early marine pressure / bunker harass is allowed.
- Defensive structures are allowed (Spines, Cannons), but cannot be instrumental in your win. For example, if you're going mass carriers to win, you cannot have cannon rushed out half his base beforehand to set him super far behind.
- (Will add more to the list when I discover impossibilities)
I will document my progress in blog entries, should start with worker rushes tomorrow We'll see.
I think the main challenge is figuring out how to make it work from a strategic standpoint. Players are obviously not stupid and will be scouting you and reacting to what they see. How do you get it to work? Fakes? Feints? Some are obviously easy (e.g. Marines, Lings) but some do get challenging (Ghosts?! Vikings?!? Infestors? Colussus?? (only) )
I'm thinking of more Basic Rules or Clauses I have to add, so please do let me know if you think of anything that should be included. Thanks!
Once again, I'm sorry if you find this stupid and a waste of your time to read, I did already warn you beforehand. Regardless, I'm going to have fun trying to accomplish these and will document it in a blog so... you can wait for it Or join too!
Remember, it's not about whether it's been done before, it's whether YOU can do it!
I remember seeing slayersdragon troll lower leagues by going only ghosts. Not sure if it is possible though for any other unit other than the marine in higher leagues. Still would be fun to see someone try.
I got an idea! The mofoship challenge. Make a mothership every PvZ and PvT and win 10 games in a row! You have to make a mothership every game, losing a game resets the counter back to 0. Having the game end before your mothership also resets the counter back to zero.
Yeah I fairly certain that's where the monobattle custom maps derived from. I'm sure you can think up something equally as intriguing for the masses.
Here's some patented scenarios i'd like to let out:
Warp Prism transport only! Anywhere but you and your opponents base / natural is all hot lava! Use only the warp prism to cart your ground units around. Additionally - no proxy pylons may be warped in as that is cheating. Warp ins from prisms may be used only if in the No Lava Zone
No Collosus Allowed <-- don't be so quick to assume. You can have collosus if you so please. Your opponent however cannot. Be a total boss and prevent the opponent from getting out a collosus the WHOLE GAME. Must be legitimate i.e no one base nastiness, be creative. Alternatively if the opponent has no intention of going Collosus you must beg for one and if he complies mess his plans. Otherwise gg chalk that one up on the ol' wins streak
Tug of War on Ladder As goes for the tug of war custom map you must rally ALL attacking units to your opponents base as they're built - you are allowed to A Move them during the rally - no micro. kill them with a constant stream of units.
I'm currently trying to remember where I have seen something like this before, but basically there was a thread somewhere, that had challenges of certain aspects that you had to complete in a Ladder game.
I got an idea! The mofoship challenge. Make a mothership every PvZ and PvT and win 10 games in a row! You have to make a mothership every game, losing a game resets the counter back to 0. Having the game end before your mothership also resets the counter back to zero.
