After spending some time in Korea, loving the country, culture, language and people I decided to start to learn Korean.
I Have been learning Korean at home by myself for a few months now and i am doing quite well - I can construct some sentences, read hangeul (very slowly) and listen and pick out certain phrases words etc. but I still have a long way to go.
So...
I just enrolled myself in a 9 Week course for basic Elementary level Korean language learning as i am looking to take it further. I don't have much time on my hands - running a business its quite time consuming...
Is anybody else learning Korean / interested in learning Korean / already know Korean? Maybe we can Practise together? Or maybe you would like to learn a different language (its always a great thing to do, and can get you employed!).
I know that as soon as I expand the business across Australia - Korea will be the first place I wish to go internationally, and the language will help me too.
Lesson 1 involved learning the basic Constanants and Vowels for hanguel. Basic stuff, very easy to do and good fun! Also how to say hello, teacher, goodbye, thankyou...

I learned a fair bit when I was with a Korean girl for a few years a while back. Since we split, I just keep myself active by reading Korean news articles and spending about 1 hr per week focusing on a new words and memorising it. My reading and writing is really solid, but my speaking has declined quite a bit. I taught one of my friends Japanese from a Korean textbook a while ago, it really helped revive both languages in my mind. Just some suggestions!
Nice!!! I've started learning Korean this year as well. My Humanities teacher is Korean, and he offered to give me some time every week to learn Korean! Wish you luck as well!
I'll be visiting Korea next-next week for a Volleyball Tournament around the Seoul Foreign School! Hope to see some of you peeps there.
I learnt both Japanese and Korean at university and have been living in Korea for 3 years
Though I have forgotten a lot of japanese and my korean still isn't fluent TT
@frogmite: I can actually speak enough french to get me by - it's my latest acquisition. My spelling and grammar is awful though. Had to learn it for a project at work 2 years back.
I'm interested to learn Korean, multilingualism seems like an awesome and useful skill to have. But I'm taking my Alevels this year and quite caught up with work, probably will take some time after I'm done with it to learn some korean.
Probably would make you a better Starcraft 2 gamer as well xD
I self-teach korean (: But I haven't had time to that much lately. I think I do have a couple of PDF version text books (although one is entirely in korean) to help learn so let me know if you would like them.
Yeah, is there any textbook that you guys might be using? I'm trying to find a good textbook, but I don't know where to go at them. (I'm only like at the first step in learning Korean which right now is trying to remember all the vowels and consonants.)
I do have like... 2 textbooks that i took off my uni website (Monash), pretty decent. And I mostly self-learnt my korean, so reading and writing are good, speaking is meh-ish but I have been practicing with my Korean friends +D
