After seeing Sensai's topic, it occurred to me I don't think there's a Melbourne thread yet.
Melbourne's Mana Bar is hosting BarCraft for the blizzard invitational too! Which is a great chance to come down and cheer on our own Melbournian TAdeth as he tries to earn one of the two spots at Blizzcon and competes for the huge cash prize on the line!
Is anyone interested in attending? Post here if you're keen on going. I'll be keen to go and have a few drinks/watch the games as long as a few others from sc2sea are going along
Hokay, so...
We rocked up, the event was supposed to start @ 1pm, but the doors opened at about 20 past and they didn't have the event up on any screen until 1:45pm.
There's a bar about 2 meters in width which is slightly too tall for your average heighted person so it was awkward to lean on and feel prosauce.
As was stated a bit earlier the places capacity is terribly small, i'd say comfortably 15-20 people TOPS before you're rubbing shoulder to shoulder just standing / walking around anywhere.
For a BarCraft there was minimal "bar" and minimal barstools or seating etc so of the few people who were there not everyone got a seat (i'm guessing from memory there were 8-10 people?)
Good airconditioning, poor atmosphere due to venue size and layout, and of the multiple screens they had, only one of them had the event on and it wasn't even a decent size (30inch tops?).
More or less, after our second beer, my mate and I both said we couldn't see ourselves staying for another and would have preferred to hook my laptop up to my TV @ home and sit on the couch drinking. It just simply was not the event I was expecting, I went into it picturing a bustling bar with a decent atmosphere and a capacity of 50+ people minimum. I walked away from an 8 person expensive beer drinking outing.

On that note, would there be any interest from people here for a BarCraft type event in the Ballarat area for the next GSL or something to that effect?
A mate of mine and myself believe we can do it a lot better in my garage.
Ie. we buy a slab of beer, and sell it at non-profit price so it would be like $1.60 per stubby or something... a lot better than bar prices!
Obviously we'd buy more than just one slab haha

Seattle does some stuff like this. It's just for fun though. We let whoever feels they can cast goof off and pretend. It's fun. I wouldn't want the leagues to feel that we were cutting out their casters though. Is there some different PA system to use? Why would local casters be heard better than the league ones?
