How do you stick to your race?

I'm a gold Zerg and I find myself getting so annoyed with the race all the time and I tend to really consider switching races just because the other races are easier to pick up and excel at. I love Zerg, but I also love all the other races. I'm sure I'm not the only one who gets frustrated at their race and wants to switch, but how do you guys control these urges to switch and keep playing your race?

I play another race thinking how easy it will be and get matched up against Zerg, lose... fall inlove with Zerg for a week again.

All three races are relatively equal, and in terms of improving your SCII skills you should force yourself to be annoyed at yourself, rather than the race you're playing - only because that will allow you to explore avenues of altering your play to improve your game-play rather than instantaneously labeling it a "race issue".

IMO, if you have the most fun playing Zerg; then stick with it, work out where you need to improve, how to overcome the things that are holding you back from climbing the ladder and have fun while doing so, because at the end of the day - SCII is a game, and games should be fun. Also there's a great amount of tools available to help you improve your play; you've got this forum - post a topic, add some replays and explain what you're having trouble with and I'm sure you'll have a tonne of people replying offering you a hand. There's also the fantastic (not biased, I use it myself) TGM guide on this site, which was written by literally some of the best players in our region and there's even the SC2SEA coaches which you can hire if you're feeling as if you need that "little extra".

But that's just my opinion, if you really believe that a race-change will dramatically alter your game-play; perhaps play 10-20 ladder games as the other two races... but more often than not you'll only realise that the grass isn't always greener on the other side... and you may have severely messed up your MMR in the process! But to each their own!

GL&HF whichever decision you opt to take :]

If I may refer you to my blog post (which is the latest at the time of posting this reply) that is in a simliar vein... :P Some of the replies have been very helpful in figuring out my mindset and motivations.

I guess it's just for me, part of the motivation to keep playing Zerg is mainly because I just can't get used to the mechanics and nature of T and P. That doesn't mean I don't off-race ever. I do play a bit of T purely only in 4v4s when I feel like it (P units are WAY too immobile for me), or when I need a break.

Honestly, don't be afraid to switch if you feel you can switch easily, but if you're worried about your ladder rank naturally it's advisable to get a feel for the race first by playing in team games/customs and do some researching on strategies and build orders.

Thanks for the help everyone
I want to keep at Zerg and get better with them, but every time I watch a pro micro his marines amazingly or someone do amazing force fields I say I want to do that, but I also want to have the speed and the mobility of Zerg :\

FFs aren't -that- amazing in my opinion :P That said, you can do pseudo-FFs using Infested Terrans if you feel like you want to mess around a little (Destiny does it every now and then usually vs Thors and Ultras)

As for microing marines, well I suppose I can imagine the appeal of wanting to do it in a game, but there is a custom map which you can practise on called 'Marine Split Challenge' if that's enough to curb your interest!
Also if you haven't seen this
Automaton 2000 video on Zerglings avoiding tank splash
Automaton 2000 video on Zerglings avoiding tank splash
you could perhaps, try to emulate that a little :P (though I'm sure your chances are basically next to impossible ^_^)

I was watching TAdeth do the Marine Split Challenge a few times at a LAN and it's honestly quite impressive :P

Play the race that is the most fun.
If you dont know what that is and your just starting it stick to random, until you decide.

Did you start as Zerg or as random?

I really think people who are starting the game should play Random. That way you'll figure out what race you can play best.

main way i'm inspired is to find a new build that i just wanna try and get good at. So considering I'm an accountant (ie. not the most creative bunch in the world...cept when defrauding companies), I watch replays of pro terran who are doing new things and I just wanna try those.

and indeed, need to have the fun factor. playing 1v1 can be so competitive, so maybe even just do something different with your race by playing team matches, ffas, monobattles, etc.

win with random 1000 times, win with terran 1000 times, win with zerg 1000 times, then win with protoss 1000 times. After over 3000 games, you'll definitely have figured out what race you want to play and have a great picture to boot.

I kind of want to try that sort of thing but throwing done a whole row of auto-turrets in front of banelings... Need to try and find a TvZ where I can build a whole bunch of ravens.

I get frustrated with protoss at times but that's what my NA account is for. Trying out the other two races on ladder and just having some fun I play plenty of custom games with friends too which I off-race just so things don't get too stale.

Any race that allows for some sort of cheesey builds = race that I play. That's how I stick to them.
