I'm from a community that is probing the possibility of running frequent and fairly large SC2 tournaments in Australia since for such a great competitive game there really isn't much out there in the way of tournaments. We've decided to put together a survey to gauge interest and see what gamers would want from such a tournament.
Put any additional comments in the thread after you've done the survey. We look foward to hearing responses.
Filled out the survey, but yeah like Dox said I'm interested which community you're from as well. Is it a company? A lan cafe? Or just a group of really passionate nerds with a lot of money?

We have a name for that. It's called FXO.
Jokes aside i'm also curious about which community/company you represent. Australia does need a lot more spotlight on e-sports.

I filled it out also, I love the fact that more and more people are looking to get involved in SC2.
I thought I might just give my opinion on this, others may have similar or different ideas...
My main response to someone from outside the starcraft community looking to host events is this: if you're serious about creating a successful and loved series of tournaments, use people who are inside the community to at least heavily influence/advise the hosting of the actual events, and thoroughly research tournament success and failure in the past (this survey is a good start).
I realise that it is an organisation's event and they want to hold onto that and I completely respect the initiative and am grateful that said organisation has chosen to hold something for the players to compete in, but honestly the community members that are around now have extensive experience in things like tournament formats, outlets for exposure of tournaments, and even venues for LAN events, and it would be a waste to dismiss this.
If a tournament is held and a player is comfortable and familiar with all the aspects of it, they will be a much happier customer and are likely to return and bring friends etc. On the flip side if there is some amazing innovation to tournament running that could be introduced then serious convincing should be made for players to accept something alien to them.
I guess my main advice is to take a humble approach and the community will appreciate your sincerity and absolutely return for future events.
Also, this is obviously said without knowing who you are or any knowledge of your expertise, but this is my advice in general for external parties looking to get involved in the SC2 scene... Hope this was helpful.
Yeap we are all curious about the company etc MillionMonkey, would be nice if you edited your post and included the information Also first question should be Masters and above. I loled at the gaming girls haha!!

I liked the question about food...I think that's something that local tourney's should start doing to promote community.
Have a little bbq after matches have finished with nibble and drinks or w/e so that the community and the players involved can get to know each other a bit better.

Awesome, there is nothing better than more tournaments for the growth of ESPORTS in other countries. Hopefully there will not only be LAN ones because I live in HK!

Perhaps a combination of 1 and 3
Survey responses have exceeded our expectations thus far which is great to see.
Thanks for the advice Hocus we fully intend to involve people from various communities in the creation of such events.
As we're still in the planning phase and our website is under construction we're not at a stage where we can reveal anything yet. However hopefully you hear back from us in some form or another in the not too distant future.
Hmmph.
Would have been nice to have a little more information about you! Even your background, history, goals, whatever! Oh well. I'll be watching closely.

Interested still to see what happens.

Agreed, but anything that'll boost and promote SC2 in the SEA/ANZ region is always most-welcome :]
If you're looking to set up a good tournament, compare the way (mainly the early) NASL and IPL were run. Both were pilot tournaments however one spent their time and money in all the wrong places while the other prioritized what's important and is so much better for it.
Even the smallest donations help keep sc2sea running! All donations go towards helping our site run including our monthly server hosting fees and sc2sea sponsored community tournaments we host. Find out more here.
