just wondering if anyone here can help me and i hope this is in the right section but i get really bad pings like over 1000ms could anyone help me with what it could be?
when i turn of the modem it goes fine for like 10 minutes or so then goes just as bad again called up my service provider and they were no help at all.
Some days its fine i understand that alot of people in my area could be using the net or so but is 1000ms really normal?
I have the exact same problem. Its ok at like 10pm - 7am and its bullshit at the peak hours in the afternoon and evening. I cant play sc2 with lag... T_T
noobinater. yeah nah its not just a sc2 issue i go ping test and its like crazy 2000-3000 but then i test it using command pompt testing with google and its at 1000-1200.
ProAnn i got exact oppsite times after noon is fine but at night round the times where all the tourneys start its unbearable. i expect it not to be optium but ping 1000ms ?
I usually get lag at the beginning of a match (first 30 seconds) but it isn't game breaking.
Worse lag only occurs when other people in my house (*cough* sister *cough*) are on the internet as well. Even then, only if they're on YouTube, or downloading other big files.
As for time-specific lag, I really can't say as I don't play often enough or for long enough to notice a difference.
Might be a silly question, but is your internet capped? Assuming you're on cable, lag spikes of that nature shouldn't really happen unless you're capped.
Other than that, how are you connected to your modem? Wireless or Ethernet cable? If it's wireless I can't really help you as I don't have that much experience in it other than I know it could be resulting in ping fluctuations; however if it's wired, it would have to be a cap related issue, or failing that perhaps you're in need of a new modem/router.
its not capped sky i'm using the modem my isp gave me using ethernet cables every time i switch it on and off it works fine for 5 to 10 minutes oh and yes its cable was fine all day but about 10 mintues ago started up again its about 300-700 ms at the moment
make that 800-1700ms

Reason: updates
Hmm... that's a tough one man, especially considering that your ISP has washed their hands, so to speak, of your issue.
My best advice from this point on is to go to Whirl Pool Forums, find an appropriate forum and write up a thread on there outlining your problems; be sure to include your ISP/internet type and modem type and ask for their opinion - I guarantee you they will be able to help you out with your issue; they are by far the best tech-orientated website I've ever found.
They're the ones who helped fix my PC BSOD issue I was having for 8 months... within an hour, after I had spent months of time & money having it looked at by an array of different places.
No problems dude, hope it gets sorted... I could imagine how annoying it'd be playing a game of SCII and then lagging out and it costing you the game... brings back memories of when my PC crashed in 4 consecutive league games.... *shudder*
i just whiched from tpg went to whirlpool like sky said and read that optus is trying to fix the problem so im just happy im not the only one copping it and they are trying to do something about it.
