anyone here been involved in pro team management?

What have you learned regarding mistakes and great decisions? Once in a while we see "10 Common Mistake By CEOs" type of articles, so was hoping something more specific regarding eSports Team management particularly Starcraft. I'm sure we could learn a lot from happened with Quantic.

yeah good tip... I don't see the point of making something up... having a contract should take care of most of these issues

Having a contract generally doesnt mean much unless you have the money to enforce it.

oh really? if I make a contract for the pro that as a company WE will provide such and such, they can't sue in small claims court? Having a contract DOES mean something else companies and many individuals wouldn't bother with them... not to mention the fact they discourage backing out of written obligations

You're forgetting that you're dealing with kids half the time. majority of esports contracts (especially in such a small "amateur" scene like SEA/australia) just arent worth the cost of enforcing. Thats why reputation is worth so much. If you offer fair contracts and follow through then you'll go far & people will love you (Dox!). Just dont offer more than you have or no-one will bother with you (Avant?)

Edit : im not involved in team management, but people usually take it to the forums when it goes south.

ah ok. For contracts with players if younger than 18 (whatever adult age is in that country) I will require parent's signature/approval so I expect to deal with adults

eSports is not even a legit thing in the eyes of society or government. I think you're blowing things out of proportion by having contracts and shit. Teams exists because they want to have the best players, to in turn attract sponsors. After that, it would be mutual benefits because as the player does well and stuff, they bring sponsors in a good light and sponsors will continue to sponsor them. It's all about ROI and money in this "business".

If I'm not wrong, there has been contracts for players that are eventually unfulfilled, but the players could do nothing about it also. It should be somewhere on TL and I forgot who was it that got involved. Pretty sure it was some European player.

well forgive me for trying to think of doing things the right way :P

I refuse to believe teams like KT Rolster, Samsung, etc. don't have legit contracts in Korea... same with EG and ROOT in the USA.

BTW eSports is legit now in the USA they have eSport athlete VISAs now...

My bad, my answer was more for smaller teams like us here in Australia. Definitely in Korea people are covered by contracts. However, I do feel the contract is more for the benefit of the team rather than the player, so the player can't randomly move to another team as they wish. I thought you were referring more of contracts covering the player?

Yeah, actually I was thinking of contracts for the benefit of the player... to show commitment, for example, a contract that says player is paid $xxx per month, for y months, and that the player shall compete in blah blah tournaments.. etc.

I've started a team, I live and work in both USA and Philippines... I have condo in Manila, and a house in the USA... so I have a team that I plan to have players from both NA and SEA.

Guys an update.

After this thread I looked into starting a team, got the stuff together and we have over the months assembled a decent presence:

well IEM last night was the big debut for our team PSISTORM Gaming with Phog and intense. Unfortunately both didn't advance further, but did win enough games to go to the main stage/stream. Some notable wins were 2-0 over CatZ, 1-2 Huk, 1-2 Revival, 2-1 Caliber, 1-2 Harstem.

So far so good.

One thing that dawned on me is ALL our players are American. It's rare to have Americans these days in tournaments and 5 I have on the team are Americans.

We need someone from SEA
