Following numerous complaints earlier today about having problems with logging in or downloading Battle.net data players are now able to play full version of Wings of Liberty on servers other than their original license is for. For example EU players are free to log in and create fully functional character on NA and vice versa, provided they have appropriate game client.

We don't know yet if this is just a last stage test or permanent change to be announced today or tomorrow by Blizzard.

Wings of Liberty Global Play live:
EU - confirmed
NA - confiremd
SEA - confirmed
KR - confirmed
TW - confirmed
CN - will not be available

This will cause the Region button which SEA has had for the longest time to appear (it fades in after a while), but the strings for AUTHENTICATION_EU_REGION and AUTHENTICATION_KR_REGION were only added in 1.5.4.

Tested it out myself, works fine EXCEPT if you have a TW version on your account, it will not let you log-in using NA client (If you do NOT have TW version in your account then you can create KR/TW account using NA client without a problem).

EDIT: Make sure you have "save file type" as "ALL FILES" and name the file "regions.xml" otherwise you will just create a regions.xml.txt file and it will not work

No TW account, so can't test this, but it might be the case that if you change the "hostname" to "tw" instead of "kr" it may work.

Edit: actually, on second thoughts that probably won't work.

Tried it, does not work, tried to change all the variables from KR to TW and zhTW for the language, still no work, I can still use my TW account for main account KR access for the time being

I think so, because on my main account I have a TW client registered and am not able to access that account using my NA client while I successfully created a TW account on my 2nd account (which did not have TW client registered, only ANZ/NA)

Yeah I've talked to a couple other people who do and don't have one and that seems to be the issue. I can still play TW if i change the locale to zhTW in variables.txt so if I desparately need to go on there I can do that but I guess I'll just wait till blizzard releases it officially.

If anything it will increase the level of play overall for those players that do not suffer lots of delay on KR. KR will still be the premiere place to go to increase one's skill at this game

Anyone managed to find a fix to the "You need an authorized language pack from blizzard blabla" when you try to connect to korea? Similarly to the rest facing this problem, i've got a kr trial account under my account previously. Changing the variable file to zhtw works but its way more laggy compared to using the english client and connecting to kr server(borrowed my friend's acc and tried it).

Nah there isn't a fix yet. I assume we'll just have to wait till Blizzard releases global play officially. Given that this has already been leaked and is in use by tons of players that's likely to be soon.

Steps:

1) Open up where your StarCraft 2 Folder is at.
2) Create a text document from notepad, and copy paste the coding.
3) "Save As" > Change Save as Text Document to Save to All Files.
4) File name change to regions.xml
5) Save.
6) Restart Client.
7) Wait for the magic button

Since some people really do not know how to make a XML file here is the one i made. I know people will be having trouble with file extentions not being shown and not knowing how to get them up.

place it in:
For 64bit systems: C:\Program Files (X86)\Starcraft II
For 32bit systems: C:\Program Files\Starcraft II

If your PC dose not have a program files (X86) is probably 32bit .

That file location is for 64 bit machines. If you are using 32 bit there is no X86 ^_^

Now that EVERYONE knows the trick and are already playing on other servers, I wonder if Blizzard is ever going to need to officially release global play lol.
