SC2SEA BSG Open #07

SC2SEA.COM's BSG Open #07

Click the image to open in full size.

Hey Guys! This week's BSG Tourney is hosted (stolen) by BakaInu.974 and Zergtastic.610. Both of us are taking over (stole) from Dear Ol' SkyBreaker who is looking to move onto further laddering and hosting other awesome tournaments for the SEA community Sky. Fellow Past BSGers may know me by the person who SHALL never win the BSG T_T, and Zergtastic a person who Unstable is out with a chainsaw and a machete to hunt him down. So lets all wish SkyBreaker an awesome time in laddering and hope that we can make BSG a success (and Unstable in the process to hunt Zergtastic down).

The BSG Open #07 is a 64-player event.

The hall of fame, for SC2SEA.com's BSG Open, thus far:

Battle.net Chat-Channel: "sc2seaBSG".

Rules and Regulations

· All results must be PMed to Zergtastic.610 in-game.
· Players must be logged into SCII SEA region 15 minutes before their match-up. Players who are 15 or more minutes late will be disqualified and their opponent will be given an automatic win.
· Matches will be played as a Bo1 with the exception of the semi-finals and finals; which will be played as a Bo3.
· A replay-pack from the winner of the BSG must be sent to Zergtastic@yahoo.com.au.
· Winner of the BSG is required to send the replay pack within 5 days of winning the tournament or else his/her victory shall be deemed void.
· Spectators will be allowed, however permission must be granted by both players in the current match-up. Referees and casters will also be allowed to spectate.
· If any disconnects occur within the first two minutes of game-play, the match will be replayed. However if the disconnect occurs after two minutes of game-time, then it is up to the discretion of the referee to decide whether; A) the game is to be replayed, or B) player X/Y is to be awarded the win.
· Any disputes will be handled by the BSG admins after reviewing all associated replays.
· Any inappropriate behaviour will result in a disqualification.
· If a person is suspected to be smurfing (high level players in BSG tourneys), the associated player's replay will be judged by several high level players to determine the associated player's authenticity, if found to be guilty of such treason!, the player shall be banned from further tournaments and SC2SEA, and shall have his cat/dog shot.

Map List

The first map of each round is pre-determined and outlined in the following list. The losing player of the semi-final and final match will decide the subsequent map. The map pool is as follows:

Ro64: Steppes of War.
Ro32: Blistering Sands.
Ro16: Jungle Basin.
Ro8: Lost Temple.
Semi-Finals: Xel'Naga Caverns.
Finals: Metalopolis.

Brackets

Brackets are automatically generated when the tournament begins and will be posted directly to this thread so you will see who your opponent is, with ease, throughout the tournament. When the brackets are created, it is your sole responsibility to find your opponent, their character code and add them in-game and begin your matches.

Prizes

The current prize will be all the fame and glory that is associated with winning a SCII tournament, as well as a short interview with the winner on the site (www.sc2sea.com). Due to the nature of this tournament, we at sc2sea.com have decided it is in the best interest for all players involved if the prizes focused less on money and items and more so on helping them become a better gamer!

The winner's prize for the BSG Open #07 will to have three replays of their choice watched and analyzed by a SCII SEA pro! So if you're having trouble in a certain match-up, even a certain map or possibly against a certain unit composition - participate in this tournament for a chance to have those problems that are holding you back outlined for you to improve on!

Important Information

Pleasure ensure you have your correct SEA SCII name and character code in your sc2sea.com profile, which can be found here. This will help reduce any problems people may face when having to search for their opponent's character name & code.

FAQ

A) Yes, unless I have asked you to wait so I can bring the streamer/caster into the game, please begin your game(s) immediately.

Q) I can't find my opponent?
A) Their battle.net name and character code should be in their sc2sea.com profile, if it isn't, try finding them via the chat. If you have no success tracking them down, please wait 15minutes before messaging me informing me of the scenario and I will DQ the player.

Q) What map am I on?

A) Please refer to the rules and regulations of the tournament.

Q) I'm ready for my RoX match! Where is my opponent?
A) If the bracket hasn't been updated, it means your opponent is still in-game on his current RoX match.

Q) Hey, my opponent DC'ed, but he's back online, what do I do?

A) Please refer to the rules and regulations of the tournament.

To ensure the tournament to run as smoothly and efficiently for everyone; once the tournament has started, please only contact me(BakaInu.974) or Zergtastic.610 in-game to inform us of disputes and no-shows. Result of the matches are to be private messaged to Zergtastic.610 in-game. Any other questions will be answered with a link to this thread; as all other information has been outlined in here.

Big welcome to BakaLnu and Zergtastic jumping on-board and beginning to host sc2sea's BSG Open Tournament!

As Baka outlined in his post; due to some time-limiting factors in real life, I am forced to spend my spare time focusing on climbing the ladder in pursuit of my Top 200 dream. I do however have plans for future tournaments when I get more time; so be sure to stay tuned to sc2sea.com in the following weeks. I am training both Baka and Zergtastic; so as usual the BSG tournament will be a smooth and enjoyable experience for players and casters alike.

And who knows, I might actually participate in one while I'm still in the gold league All the best guys!

Hey guys,

We have changed back the timings to 9pm Melbourne time due to the considerations of people from SEA especially due to the start of schooling period. With that in mind, the format is changed from 128 players to 64 player so it is estimated that the tourney will end approximately before midnight if everything goes smoothly. We are currently just trialing the time for this week's BSG, if it is not well recepted, we will change it back to 8pm Melbourne time. I hope you guys will put this into consideration.

If I am not wrong, Noobinator won the BSG on the night where SkyBreaker's PC broke down. So the format was 32 players who could not challenge the title from him -cough-Damn you Zergtastic-cough-. Anyways, he won the title fair and square unlike the latest Smurfette scandal.

Ive got a quick question, if I got to platinum, then stopped playing for ages (my last game was 10/19/2010). Can I enter as I think im only around a silver or gold level at the moment? Im not trying to stomp people to get glory, I just want to get back into it and see how I go.
If I can't thats cool, just wondering.

The best way for u Draxy is to ladder and get a demotion to gold and join BSG afterwards. Once you get your skill level back, promotion awaits.

Hey Draxy,

I'm sorry, but I'm afraid that you can't join the tourney unless you are bronze, silver or gold ranked in the 1v1 ladder. However, if you dropped your rank before the tournament, we may consider you in it, unless you play like a level above plat, where we will consider you a smurf, and we prepared a special sta...ke...-cough-... place for those kinds....

OR you can join the Community Open, and see how far you can get in that tournament. It's open for everyone in the SEA server and it's a really good place to try your skill level as well.

PS: Aean, no cookies for you.

Just in response to the time change, i am going to get in now rather than later.

If school is back etc it is better to finish early, i think 8pm was an ok time, i would rather 7pm but 8 i can live with! 9 starts to late it isn't really going to change anything from before.

Can we do a poll before the BSG starts on thusday to see what the players actually want?

I think that a poll can sort things out before we even start it, i am happy with what the players decide and of course the majority shall rule!

Just my 2 cents about the tournament.

I don't mind creating a poll, but keep in mind that this tournament is SEA based region, we can't comform 1 country's need for another. We can however, try to work out a time that is suitable for everyone. I'll ask around and comfirm the final time on Wednesday.

zz make it on Friday then all problems solved. Last day of school, for some last day of work, etc. Who cares about it clashing with other tourneys, it's not like bsg players are gonna compete in koth or co anyway.

A stupid question but where and when can I register? I remember finding the link for BSG #01 but since then, I've never had any luck finding it. Am I just not looking at the right spot? I'm finally free to participate in this weekly tournament after being busy for the past month....

And hello, Aean. I'm pretty sure you're the same dude from the protoss strategy channel.

Hi pikk,

The link will be opened on the day of the tournament itself. It will be updated on the first post of this thread. You can also find the link on the main page of the SC2SEA website.

I'm sorry that the timing is an inconvenience, but we can't try to suit everyone's timing. We can only do our best to try to get the best of everyone's time. 9pm Melbourne time is 6pm SGT, where on a working and schooling day, they may have just returned home or something whereas the tournament will end approximately midnight for Australians, or slightly longer. Do keep in mind of daylight savings.

Lastly, this week's BSG is scheduled to be on Thursday. There will be no change in that. However, we will discuss the need for possible change in the day of the BSG being held for further BSG tournaments.

Seriously is it ok to drop rank & play in the tourney? Because I was DQ before the tourney in BSG 06 by Skybreaker (yes I understand & fully support that its his prerogative as its his tourney) . Yes, I do drop games just to farm icons but I'm pretty sure I'm only about high gold in 1v1 with 70 apm.

Anyway, its not a big deal, but I would like to join one of the future BSGs too. If I'm still not eligible, its fine as well, not pushing it

Yes, it is possible to drop rank and play in the tournament, but we prefer that if you drop naturally rather than forcefully. Do note that, we there is suspicion of you being a smurf (a player who is better than BSG level), it is possible for you to be banned from any future BSG or SC2SEA tournament as well as from the site itself. We do not encourage people to drop their ranks just to play in the tournament.

My prerogative had nothing to do with the reason I disqualified you from last weeks BSG; it's just a matter of the rules. You were platinum when you asked if you could participate; it's a bronze, silver and gold tournament, it's kind of a no-brainer that I was forced to DQ you.

I find it a bit odd how you're diamond in all team leagues, with win ratios like 35-4 in 4v4 and 39-15 in 3v3 but you say you're only gold level. Maybe it's just my luck but my ratio in 3v3 and 4v4 (plat league) is horrible because I always get teamed up with massive noobs.

So LevelOneOrc actually WAS a masters dude smurfing? I heard thats why he was disqualified..? See guys I wasn't trying to just stir up trouble last week I cant believe nobody actually believed me and Aean though when we insisted he was, twas pretty damn obvious lol.
I hope this whole thing hasn't turned Sky off organising tournements, I'm sorry if I upset you last week mate, I appreciate all the effort you put into this, and I hope there are no more smurfers in the future.
Good luck all, I'm plat now so cant join anymore but will be sure to obs if I can.

Wrong thread.

Although, I might as well address this a bit. are now more prepared to deal with smurfers, with a bit of a change in the ruleset. We also know what we can look for if thinking that a player may be a smurfer. In a way, if that one smurfer causes us to be able to catch anyone who attempts to do so in the future, then we've gained more than we've lost.

I also hope that LevelOneOrc got worse at SC2 through playing people at BSG level. LOL

No one said they did not believe you. We just couldn't prove it. If I can, I'll get jimOK to play everyone who LevelOneOrc beat and crown him if he can beat everyone =P. (Giving me a chance in getting BSG #6 title, MUAHAHAHAHAHA)

Thats a fairly good idea, we should organise that sometime. Like a BSG showmatch, just for entertainment sake. Lets talk about that on MSN or SC2 sometime.

Just a thought but why not host the tournament on a weekend?
4pm SGT is early enough that most who work on weekends will be finished and it means the tournament stays a reasonable time for everyone in the region (I know my SC skills die pretty fast after 10pm).

E. and has anybody looked at the ladder program to work out why it dropped two people last week?

Hey, the time has been changed to 6pm SGT. So it's an hour later now. Hope you would still consider joining it.

Oh and most of us have a life on the weekends. :P

There will not be a poll. I will stick to 6pm SGT and 9pm AEDST Thursday. Blame daylight savings if you want something to blame if u hate the time. Friday slot has been taken by KotH and its a Friday, go out, get a drink (do not recommend if you are under 18), enjoy with your friends. Join BSG on Thursday instead.

Changes in the main post

-Results of each bracket, please send to Zergtastic.610 instead of posting it on the sc2seaBSG channel.

Shrug, during earlier patches, you could team with 2 other people and still go 4v4 for RT. Same for 3v3. The skill level/cohesiveness of your opponents would be lower, especially when they are AT (the system gives you lower AT opponents since you are RT)

BSG #7 BoxeR Interview/Replays

Sorry guys, this time the interview and replay pack was a bit late. I'll make sure Im a bit more prompt next time Im sorting these out. Im posting this thread because the BSG 8 thread has already been posted blah blah blah. If Im wrong, and this is in the wrong spot, please move it. Also, I tried to make the interview a bit more conversational than previous ones. Hope you guys enjoy reading it.

BoxeR's BSG #7 replay pack can be found here.

Zergtastic: Well done on your BSG #7 win! How do you feel the tournament went?

BoxeR: It went great, and i wanna give a big thanks to u guys for waiting for me to do the finals

Zergtastic: It was sure worth the wait, I felt the finals were pretty entertaining myself.
Actually, what do you think of the finals yourself, vs Pikkon?

BoxeR: Hmmm. Well pikkon doesnt seem to be sure of what he was doing at times. For the 1st game i thought he was gonna push early push thats why i put 3 bunkers down. The 2nd game his 4 gate was late so it gave me a chance but i have to add in myself i was lucky

(Note, game 2 was a 3gate with phoenix, not a 4gate.)

Zergtastic: Personally I dont know if it was luck that made you win, but regardless, well done. How old are you and where do you play from?

BoxeR: i am 18 this year and i am from sg haha

Zergtastic: Another sg winner! Haha

BoxeR: yea... but aus wins all the co

Zergtastic: Oh snap!

BoxeR: ?

Zergtastic: Uh nevermind. Anyway, any tips for BSG level players, training wise?

BoxeR: hmmm well i would just tell them to stick to a strat and refine it well dont take 20 over builds and u cant exeucute them properly its better to have 1 build and 1 cheese or rush.

Zergtastic: Any replays you reccomend from your BSG #7 replay pack?

BoxeR: Take the 1 that i did vs kpb on jungle basin. I thought i was losing but something happened, i wont spoil it for u guys.

Zergtastic: Sounds interesting indeed. Any final shoutouts?

BoxeR: Thanks to baka and pikkon and u and all of sea for being patient and waiting till the next day for me to compete and i love u hdphoenix who said i am the guy who cant keep my money lowand it wasnt me T.T

Also, I tried to make the interview a bit more conversational than previous ones. Hope you guys enjoy reading it.

BoxeR's BSG #7 replay pack can be found here.

Zergtastic: Well done on your BSG #7 win! How do you feet the tournament went?

I think HDPhoenix was referring to me :P

Pulling an Inu, yo!

Too many BSG players in SG I guess, all the high level Masters players are just from Aus/NZ
