How to deal with delay ?

I play both NA and SEA server, both have delay about .30 to .50 sec. The delay is noticeable. I dont think this is acceptable for game like SC especially I play zerg ( you dodge baneling with split second).

How do I improve this ? My ISP is TPG.

I dont know if get better computer will help?

Latency is a result of how long it takes for the message to get from you to the battle.net server. The easiest way to improve this is with an ISP change. You can try latency fixes or use a VPN to change the way your ISP routes if they're doing something retarded like Optus (+1 for my awesome Optus netz -.-)

As for gameplay, just be a little safer when it comes to sending your whole army up a ramp with no vision. There's really not too much you can do if you can't see something, so just try to maximise your chance of seeing it earlier, I suppose.

It probably is not your computer, have you done a tracert to the servers to see how your latency is?

run cmd.exe and try tracert sg.logon.battle.net, and tracert us.logon.battle.net, it's most probably your connection.

There would be some milliseconds lag, which depends on how good and stable your latency is and inFeZa is on cable which is pretty much the most solid thing money can buy for the average household. You can check your ping to Blizzard servers using "ping" in cmd prompt or speedtest.net.

There is certainly always a difference between one persons ping to SC2 servers and anothers, some people get 80-100ms to SEA and some people get 300+ and that's a massive difference.

To check iMacs ping do the following:
Unplug said iMac,
open nearby window,
Throw said iMac out window,
Go to nearest pc store and buy a real computer;
Win.

Yeah I get about 100ms to sea server. Bandwidth just let's me do more at one time without slowing.
And yeah t has to do your isp and how it connects to the server. I know that Telstra is good. And optus is retarded

Hey dude!

You can use Terminal, Mac's unix command line prompt which is in Utilities and type the same command as on Windows.

There's another tute here too:

Hope you have some luck.

I'd actually play on the SEA server if I could get a ping comparable to what I get on NA but yeah 380ms + isn't fun

Also zerg is probably the best race to play to with average ping.

Maybe even try WoWTunnels if you don't mind forking out ~$4 a month for SSH tunnelling access. It works wonders for MMORPG's, never seen much of a difference for SC2 though (although I've never had lag issues for SC2). It's likely to help reduce your ping if your connection isn't being routed optimally.

I have this problem on Korea, I've just learnt to put up with it and not blame lag for missing my forcefields. I'm actually using it as a training tool to force myself to react faster ^^

Yeah WoWtunnels made no difference for me, I've used VPNsecure.me before and that worked decently but it's sad that some of us can't play on the closest server to us geographically without having to fork out for monthly vpns/proxies.

Cheers anyways Crixx

Np Also if your with Optusnet, you're shit out of luck with getting a good ping to SEA. No clue why, but until I moved out and switched to TPG (runs via Telstra lines) I was forced to ONLY play on NA.

Optus routes from Sydney -> US -> SEA. It's so stupid, thats why people get > 350ms.

That explains why my connection to the US on Optus was better than to SEA. I'm on telstra now and the connection is better but I have been getting some lag spikes at the start of matches.

The only thing you can do is to work on your reaction speed and army positioning instead of relying on things like stutter step.
