hey guys, I have been playing some games online, and I have come to the conclusion that I have been lagging people out of the game and gaining unfair wins I have no idea why this is happening and I have no effect in custom games. If anyone has had past experience with this or knows why this may be happening I would love you forever if you could help us out.
thanks guys
haha yeah you can if you want :P
but yeah thats what i thought aswell for a couple of games, but it is constant and alot of different people :/ its so weird, theres nothing wrong with my NAT or there is none of my firewalls interfering with the pc :S
Ya its impossible to be able to drop someone even if there was a malfunction on your side.
Because packets are sent from your computer to the server, not from you to your opponent. (Server-sided not peer 2 peer if that makes more sense). And then the server's packets are sent back to you with the new information (meaning its impossible to get a direct ip address of the other person, only the server-ip, and therefore u cannot have an af3ftz on the 0ther p3rzonz yo.)
conclusion: coincidence

I recently remember that dude on NA drop hacked all the way to the top of NA GM was pretty funny I still dont think blizz banned him
Seriously though don't worry about it. Maybe you saw 5 disconnects in one gaming session (say 10 games?), but over your record it's not going to be that many, maybe like 1/30 or something very low. It's not going to affect your MMR that much, so chill out and go stomp some nerds!
When I play 2v2, I sometimes get a really laggy opp or ally, who makes all 3 other players lag and get freezes. Then, when he leaves, everything is smooth again. Guess server is trying to sync all players. It doesn't quiet apply, because if you are not lagging yourself, you can't make opp lag. Just saying

I'm pretty sure Aean meant that it's impossible to drop someone just because your own net is having problems, not that it is impossible to drop someone, period.
I got this same guy on ladder twice in a row and i "apparently" disconnected both games but i could see my self drop -.- but it was only against that one person. Is that a hack that drops your opponents?
After I downloaded the latest patch my sc2 client would start to lag heavily during a match. Originally I just thought it was my net but then I heard rumors that it was due to Starcraft peripherals which makes sense due to the APM change in the latest patch.
Now I use the razer marauder keyboard, spectre mouse and banshee headset which has the APM lighting system so immeiatly after hearing the rumor I opened my razor configurator for my peripherals and deselected the APM and alerts check boxes for each device. This appears to have worked as I no longer have the terrible lag during game but although my gear still has the pretty lights, the pretty lights no longer change according to APM
The whole point of this post is to enlighten others who may be suffering from this problem. If anyone else is affected can you confirm that change i have made will get rid of the lag?
Oh and beware of the drop bears.

Most of my friends and myself have had no issues with the new patch. Wonder what causes this FPS drop for some people :| Video card driver compatibility maybe? What type of video card does everyone with a problem have?
Using a razer spectre, currently it seems to have such issues and yeah, heard that it is caused by the changes to APM measurement. Will try again and let you know tomrorow my friend =)
@maynarde : prob not video card driver as I just updated my video card driver today to see if it helps, and it doesn't. APparently Blizzard has received alot of issues with it due to the APM measurement with many pple posting about said problems.

Yes I had a huge issue last night with it. About to polish off some guys army and then all of a sudden my screen just froze for about 5 seconds, when it unfroze all my collosi were down and i had marines and marauder surrounding what was left of my army.
I take my lunch break in an hour so I'll try enabling the APM lights again to see if it lags and then disable to see if it disappears. Basically I'll prove my theory/procedure.

@djvillian: same thing happened to me, the FPS lag got way better after i disabled apm alerts and shit on my mouse, so for anyone running the Razer SC2 gear, you need to disable it

I couldn't quite replicate the fault but my banshee headset is lag spiking like crazy :/ and to make it worse my configurator doesn't recognize the headset when it's plugged in so I can't disable the APM alerts for that >.<
LOSWAR has the banshee headset and he said it is faulting for him as well so I have asked him to deselect the APM and alert boxes and let me know what happens. If anyone else is having problems with the audio spiking/lagging with your banshee headset can you try deselecting the options and letting us know here about the outcome?

Reason: Stupid iPhone predictive text.
I am having trouble with my audio system. After the patch, every time I start sc2, the audio switches to my laptop's audio for all my running apps. I have MSN and SC2 on at the same time. Any idea how to fix this problem? I changed the audio output devices to headphone but the sound is still coming out of my laptop. I hate this new patch.
The cause of this is a new feature added called Alert Fade
All you have to do to 'fix' it (i.e. make it go back to what it was before) is go
Menu > Options > Sound > Alert Fade to 100%
and it'll be normal
yep, u're right. But I have no idea why Blizzard do that? They could have implemented that feature, but set the value up to 100%, so someone who want to change can change it, not forcing ppl to change it like that...
And about the fps drop, some got problem with razer gears that have apm lighting.., however I only use a Razer Death Adder (Light turned off already).
I think it's gonna be a problem with Mac OSX Version. Found another thread: http://eu.battle.net/sc2/en/forum/topic/2690611989
Ive been having a good ole lag free time till the patch... =( Don't own any of the Starcraft Gear, and my net is nextg but is was really good before for months... now all of a sudden Oo
Yes, the corrupted textures force your computer to drop to 3 FPS and makes the game unplayable. It only happens in some areas of most maps, but the entire Metalopolis map is boned.
@Rambolicious
It's a basic concept of Opt-out that is used widely - e.g when u install stuff the checkbox for 'receive emails' is always checked, u have to opt out of it.
For Facebook too, when they implemented the privacy feature or whatnot it was similarly implemented - you only do something if u DON'T want it.
Just a sneaky strategy
I know that Solis, since Patch 1.4, now has a problem where his microphone volume automatically changes to 100% as soon as the loading screen starts for a match. It's insanely frustrating for both him and other members in vent -.-
He uses a Razer Megalodon headset. Not sure if it's analog, usb or if he has drivers installed though.

Hey I just recently got a new com (you can refer here for specs) and there's some sort of display glitch going on.
When I alt+tab between stuff (e.g. Microsoft Word and Internet Explorer), sometimes the alt tab is not 'clean' and I don't get to view the whole window. I have to tab between them a few more times to fix it.
It's nothing to do with your computer, it's to do with the new update of Google Chrome. Sometimes alt+tabbing doesnt work.
Not sure if there is a fix for it. Searching for one now. try looking here for a fix. Not sure if there is one, but it should help.

No problems. If you can't fix it, it shouldnt be a problem. It's annoying, but the forum i saw basically just said keep alt+tabbing and it'll work eventually. It's a harmless but annoying bug in chrome.

If you don't like Chrome you could always go to another internet browser like Firefox which is what I turned to after the disaster which is internet explorer 9
It's only certain updates/versions of chrome. For some people, it will work just fine. Eg mine works fine as well.
I used to use opera ^.^, then i realised what a douche i was being and went to chrome. FireFox is alright but i prefer chrome, there's less crap on the screen, leaving more room for the web pages.

I use Chrome cos it's the most lightweight and clean browser. I love the feature that when a tab crashes, it's only that tab (whereas for IE/FF all your pages get closed when one crashes)
FF has frequent updates and addons that delay the opening of the browser.. and IE is... well, IE.
yer I had a similar thing with chrome a while ago, my 2cents cant even log into my router with chrome so shit imo apart from that it's good the router thing doesn't happen in unbuntu, only windows :S
Just curious does it only happen with alt-tab? what about windows key + tab?
Last day or so my SC2 has begun to stutter every 10-15 seconds having fps spikes for about a second, I've tried disabling Intel Speedstep and changing my power management options to high performance for my video card and computer in general. All my temperatures are fine (Mid to low 40s for CPU and GPU) as well. Anyone know what the problem could be?
My specs are:
Intel i5 2500k
Gigabyte 460GTX 1GB SOC
Asus P8Z68 V-PRO
8GB Corsair Vengeance DDR5 RAM
Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit
I've had similar problems every now and then over the last week, since around ladder lock time. I'm fairly certain mine is b.net or ISP related though (and my ISP been fine with everything else), since FPS is technically staying steady. It's like little stutters every 5-10 seconds (when it's bad), and then sort of like a speedup as it resyncs
I used to have this problem a few months after the release of sc2, but a driver update(ati 4850) resolved the issue, and hasnt comeback since.
Initially it seemed like a connection issue (felt like lag), but for me it turned out to be the graphics card. Why dont you try playing in single player or change everything to lowest settings and see how the performance is. We might be able to narrow the problem.
I deleted the driver .exe file from my comp and once I did that it started to stutter once again. Why would deleting that file cause that happen? o.O Is becoming quite annoying. My settings are also at medium to low as well and running at around 200fps.
Edit: I also have Windows 7 64bit and downloading the 64bit drivers, but since SC2 only uses 32bit does that mean I have to get the 32bit drivers as well? Also i meant theinstallation file, not the driver itself.
Last edited by Snx.FigJig; Mon, 24th-Oct-2011 at 12:37 PM.
i have had this problem since 1.4 came out. for a week i couldn't play because of lag and then it went away and then it came back for a few days about a week ago.
I think he meant the installation file (280.26-desktop-win7-winvista-64bit-english-whql.exe for example).
No to the 32bit drivers.
If you think it's your connection to BNET causing you to stutter randomly just open a replay or play single player and see if the problems persist.
I only get stuttering sound when I'm playing in windowed mode and I alt tab a lot, confuses my stupid PC sometimes, switching to fullscreen fixes that for me though.
Oh, make sure you don't install Nvidia HD Audio that comes along with the drivers, as that did (no idea if it's fixed) cause stuttering problems in Starcraft 2.
Thanks zerggirl, will try that . I do play in windowed mode but i always have and it used to work fine. Also am not sure if i have installed the hd audio drives :/. How do i find out and uninstall them? Thanks for all your help guys!
Control panel and look for Nvidia HD Audio or something.
Try playing in Fullscreen (not windowed-fullscreen) for a little while and tell me if it stutters. If it does alt-tab twice and see if it improves.
What headset are you using btw? - Only asking about the headset because my silly little banshee headset (USB) caused multiple games (inc sc2) to stutter like crazy because the USB port was faulty.
Last edited by ZergGirl; Mon, 24th-Oct-2011 at 12:51 PM.
None of those worked unfortunately . Nvidia HD Audio isn't in my control panel but it is in my device manager, but I don't think it would be the problem since this really has only happened in the last couple of days and I had the 280.26 driver update longer than that. I have a Gamescom Headset (not sure which type) but I hardly use it at all, I use speakers instead :P. I'll try put my mouse/keyboard in different USB ports to see if that works, hope it isn't the problem though since I just got a new M/B D:
Well, once again, I think I've found the problem. I disabled OC Guru, then the stuttering stopped, enabled it again and it came back, disabled once again and no more stuttering. So hopefully this was the root of the problem and is now perma fixed, have uninstalled it. Thanks for all your help guys, esp ZG.
ok now i got this problem too
after new season come ... its stutter like crazy (cpu works 95%-99% when running sc2)
i used intel quadcore ... nvidia gts250 updated driver
what happen here T__T can't play well
Hey guys, recently got a new computer, (16G DDR3 RAM, i7 intel 2600 3.4 ghz, 1gb video ATI radeon HD 5450, 4 TB hard drive). The problem is when I try to stream with xsplit my sc2 goes a bit choppy and my streaming quality looks quite laggy/choppy when ive tested streaming. Ive done a speed test showing 1.23mbps upload and 2.84 mbps downloads. Ive tried playing around with a few of the xsplit settings, nothing that ive tried had reduced the lag/choppyness. Any ideas/thoughts/things i need to change on xsplit to fix this?
5450 is kinda low end / old video card...
ummm check what other processes are running while streaming.
Also lower sc2 settings and try lower your desktop resolution
Also make sure you have sc2 in windowed fullscreen mode
Yeah i was plannin on replacing the graphics card in a bit, not really running many other processes, only runnig mozilla/whatever is running in the background. I didnt have window mode running so ill try that, all sc2 settings on low, ill also try running lower desktop resolution (currently on 1920/1080)
Ok, had a play around with different resolutions. The lower resolution i use the less lag i get, down to about 1440/900 and then anything below that makes no difference in choppyness/lag as its fine. Anything above that number the lag gets worse. However, regardless of what resolution im broadcasting at my stream still looks/feels laggy so perhaps I just need to play around with the xsplit settings or maybe my net isnt good enough? im not really sure about that. So yeah any feedback about what could be wrong would be much appreciated guys!
on my other comp i was viewing it through twitch so choppy to everyone else regardless of resolution, choppy to me only on high resolution. however on stream (so to everyone else) its not really TO bad, i have seen worse, but i would like it to be better
It really isn't necessary to stream at such high resolutions, you really need consistent 1.5mbps up for good quality 720p, so trying to do '900p' at 1.2mbps is going to sacrifice framerate/clarity/blur/etc for just more (not necessarily clearer) pixels. Also without a Twitch partnership viewers don't get quality options.
I would try to stream at a more modest resolution, like 480p at 25fps, which I think is more than adequate and should be handled much more smoothly by most connections.
i actually found it was my graphics card, when i was using ASUS it lagged even though it was a top of the line card, then i switched to a not so top of the line nvidia geforce card and i can stream perfectly with no frame rate loss at all
Well its coming up holidays again and yet again plans go to ruin -.-.
I have been having over the last few months quite a lot of trouble in relation to my Graphics of my laptop.
Starting off with a software issue that affected the performance of my laptop and especially in game.... Fun times...
The initially problem I did get fixed, where the problem mainly was where the Interfaces across multiple games were showing signs of graphical problems. Starting off with distortions and light coming off units and detailings across maps. Well that was okay since it was only a software issue....
But now.... I noticed just the other day whilst I was in game that the game began to become extremely laggy and I thought that was extremely weird considering that it what this laptop is built for with a decent processor and 1gb dedicated graphics.
So I decided to try to find out what the problem was and then it began again, what my initial problem was with the unit detailing. I managed to fix this problem yet again, but the lagg came back and I thought hm....
So I decided to go into graphics options and see if I could configure the graphics properties of my laptop, to see if the performance was being affected due to batter restrictions or whatever... But of course this wasn't the case. As soon as I noticed when I opened up the Graphics Properties it opened up with a Intel Configuration, which I thought was extremely weird considering that usually Catalyst Control Centre should open, because my Graphics Card is a ATI Radeon 5650 with an addition Intel (R) HD Graphics....
So I thought "WHAT THE HELL?!?!!" By then I was starting to get quite pissed off, so I head over to Device Manager and see that under Display Adaptors that there is no ATI Radeon under this header.... So im thinking that the graphics card could of burnt out? Which is considerable unusually considering the fact that I haven't actually played starcraft for couple of weeks due to this year being quite major exams for me.
Anyway guys, whats your opinion on this because I would really appreciate the advice and your thoughts on this matter. I need to get it sorted as soon as I possible can, with a lot of ToR Clan Activities coming up in the next few weeks and I'd hate to be put out of action YET AGAIN -.-
Wow man, I have the exact same graphics card and am starting to have problems as well. I used to be able to play at medium graphics really well, but now it struggles/lags on low. However mine still says ATI Radeon under the device manager.
I'd also be interested to hear some of the reply's.

To be honest, after what I have had so far. Convinced the card itself must be faulty. Its really starting to piss me off considering how much I paid for my laptop.... Lol need to get it fixed, my dad is going to rage i reckon (: After the last fix took like 8 hours of Restoring and backing up ^^
Yeah, my laptop is mainly for Uni, it's not to bad though. Probably 1 and a half years old I think.
I really need to get a desktop computer and use the laptop for uni.
I've had problems with the laptop overheating, on hot days even with a little laptop fan it sits at 80-90 degrees sometimes, so I turn it off. Even though it says it can handle close to 100, I think the overheating may be the cause of my problem. Not sure though.

Whats the brand bro?
Yeah I have had the same idea in mind, but for Architecture which im going to be studying in about a year I really need a laptop that can run like big heavy usage programs like Revit and Archicad similar programs.
Yeah I know what you mean about overheating man, I think mine is sooo bad, a little fan to the side doesn't do anything for my laptop....
On-topic
My laptop suffers from the same problem and the only things I can think of is didn't install driver and should get a better laptop or just use my desktop =P
You guys using cooling pads? If your gaming you really should. They arnt so much pads as rests for your laptops with fans in them. It will extend the life of any component in your laptop significantly due to the heat reduction. If your doing anything the increases the heat in your laptop read possessing lots of information you want to remove that heat as quickly as possible. I think they are around $30 might save you having to get a new graphics card or worse a new laptop. My 2 cents on the matter.
I use a desktop these days, but I had a laptop for 3 years. At 11 months old, the motherboard literally melted due to a manufacturing issue with Nvidia cards in HP laptops back then.
Got it fixed and used a cooling pad ever since, it makes a ridiculous difference.
According to internal checks, the card was running at 90 to 100+ degrees, so it explained a lot of performance issues.
Standard suggestions though, remove drivers if you can find them, download latest drivers using steam or just searching online at the official site. Failing that, take it in for repair.
My old desktop a couple of years ago had a Nvidia graphics card, in the space of 2 years we had to replace it 6 times under warranty. Never gone Nvidia since, might be better now though.
its not as much the card as who is making the boards they are attached to.
I have an 10" Alienware laptop which should be a nightmare for cooling and i don't see it go over 70C
Yeah i know what you mean though, have a funny feeling it happened to me the ATI one seriously seems faulty as I couldnt actually see it in device manager the other day. Which isnt particular a good sign xD
Well im now absolutely positive its the card, today I open up my laptop and surprise suprise the ATI card isnt working or present under device manager and....

HEY DJ
You are most likely right but you should look at why its happening not just what happened much like a game of starcraft you dont want the same thing to happen again when its bad.
You are most likely right but you should look at why its happening not just what happened much like a game of starcraft you dont want the same thing to happen again when its bad.
Yeah bro I know, Thats why im going to send it in as it is under warranty. Last time I had the problem the ATI card was still present, but apparently it was a software issue. This time is different so im going to get it checked out for sure.
If in doubt, if tis a hardware issue with the motherboard a BIOS reset, THEN update usually does the job. Try resetting ti first in case it is jsut some bad settings, if that doesnt work then as above update the BIOS and that should do it
I would do that, but i'm not exactly sure, and I want to be certain that it is definitely the problem before tinkering around with the computer and wrecking anything.
I should mention make sure you dont have any power cables plugged in at all!!!!!
Ok you will want to look at your motherboard manual, it should have a diagram on there with a BIOS flash or reset. Normally you short this to do it, OR if you look on your motherboard there will be a watch sized battery on it, unclip that and leave it for a few mins, this will also hard reset all the BIOS settings.
If this does not work you need to download the latest BIOS, and go into the BIOS menus at boot, and there will be a flash utility in there, its fairly straight forward once you get into the utility. Direct to where the new BIOS is and tell it to update and it will do the rest itself
Found the battery, directly under my Graphics card... Really cbf to pull out the graphics card to remove the battery :/. Are there any other options?
From the motherboard information you gave in your other post, refer to section 9 on page 26 of your manual. It shows you the location of the jumper you can short.
Lately I've been encountering a problem with my computer the moment I log into SC2. Upon entering my account, the game client freezes completely. If I go to alt-tab out, I might be able to open my browser or skype, but then they become non-responsive as well.
Any audio that was playing before the freeze continues, as well as skype calls. However, I cannot control-alt-delete/alt-f4 to close. The only way to 'unfreeze' my computer is to do a restart.
I've run the sc2 repair and cleared any temporary info as per recommendation from blizzard in similar cases, as well as checking that my video drivers are up to date and have also tried running in fullscreen mode. After a reasonable look on google and the sc2 forums, I haven't found an identical issue report.
Anyone encountered the same issue or know of how to fix this?
Um...I had this problem when I had Xwindows Dock, where it crashed but also caused my whole com to just go kaput. I just uninstalled it. Are you sure its your SC2 causing the problem? If it is perhaps a full clean install instead of just the repair? Maybe run a check on your registry?
That used to happen to me a lot as well, and sometimes the client just crashed to desktop or shut the computer down completely. Recently I cleaned the dust out from my box and since then it's been fine, so maybe check that your computer is just overheating.
