politics has been ruined by the media, as weird as that sounds.
in order to compress the arguments into short clips, so they could run other news items that would support their sponsors and backers, they relied on soundbytes.
Politics in australia is nothing but them trying to spout what ever soundbite they think will go more viral and further their agenda.
the truth died a long time ago unfortunately.

She led him with 3 questions detailing where he's grossly miss-informed the public for his agenda and pulled him up short everytime he was wrong. then moves to the question "are politicians playing fast and loose with the truth" to which he responds that julia gillard is, before she pulls him up with the fact that every question he'd answered was completely made up bullshit.

Southpark once made the joke that politics was effectively a contest between a giant douche and a turd sandwich. In australia that feels particularly valid right now since there's two major parties and they both seem sucky, Liberals seem sucky because they're being led by an incredibly pessimistic and unintelligent dickwad (abbot), and Labor is being led by someone whose having an awfully hard time convincing people she's not a ******* useless backstabber (Gillard).
Pretty much, Abbott spends an awful lot of time pooping on Labor with extreme negativity and when he's caught out on it it's fun to watch him squirm.
Lol I remember watching a debate with Abbot and Rudd a couple years back and all I could think while watching it is Abbott is a snide little turd sandwich and Rudd is a smug giant douche.... welcome to politics.
Too be honest i think the country would be better with Tony Abbott as leader as I honestly can't name one thing that has gone right under Julia Gillard. The Carbon tax, Australians manufacturing industry and also Asyslum seekers to name a few problematic issues for the government; imo bring back Johnnie!!!
Ultra-conservatism for the win. Let's bring back work choices. Let's remove unfair dismissal laws. Let's prioritise non-renewable energy sources and shit the bed when they run out. Let's introduce intelligent design into schools because fundamentalist Christianity revolves around factual arguments. Let's refuse to accept our responsibilities to the environment, mostly those that involve not destroying everything.
Howard was only good for throwing shoes at and hugging whilst holding a screwdriver.
Can't stand major political parties. It's a system that revolves around pitching the most ridiculous fear-mongering arguments in order to convince the people who don't see through the bullshit that you're actually a good guy who really just wants to stop all the nasty illegal immigrants on the boats!

If you don't vote you don't have the right to complain about the political parties. Gotta vote or you won't even be able to pretend you're making a difference.
I don't understand when politicians find time to run the country between insulting the other party and kissing the arse of their own party.
Seriously! Stop telling us how the other party sucks and you are amazing and just get on with the country running that we are paying you incredible amounts of money to do.

Well, all politicians are 'loose with the truth'. Eg: "There will be no carbon tax under the government I lead".
Yes the ABC is biased and if you've seen The Drum forums... very very biased in favour of the left.
Now lets consider 'abbott the idiot' who everyone goes on about as a total idiot unable to manage Australia's economy, well at least Abbott has an economics degree unlike the treasurer who only has one in the arts of all places.. Abbott isn't an idiot, but sometimes the media makes the rhode scholar look like an arse.
Well, that's my opinion at least.

Reason: Grammatical errors of course
I too hate the rubbish that politicians do mocking each other in parliament and making promises that can't possibly keep- the real problem with politics is that it's too political.I do however support the Liberals and Tony Abbott.

The ABC forums are bias or the station is? (just curious)
I wonder if Abbotts economics degree would have made that mine in SA go ahead?
Abbott isn't unintelligent but he doesn't do himself any favors.
I think swan has done really well all things considered look at Greece and America
australia really does need a mining tax, as for the moment we are getting crap all out of our ore. its all going to overseas company's when you see the profit the mining companys make its about time they give a bit more of it to australia. as for the carbon tax, the government needed to show they were trying to do something, as most countrys in the western world have. personally i dont like like either party, but tony abbott is much more hated on my list, just likes to be the guy at the back of the crowd saying how crap all their policies are yet having no good policies himself.
in the end it doesnt matter who you vote for or who gets in. as none of them tell the truth and they will all screw us over eitherway.

That isnt a very good example (theres probably plenty of better ones out there), Any reasonable person would agree of the two examples given Abott had far more egg on his face by the end, face the facts, The Opposition hangs shit on every policy without offering any solutions/alternatives (other than not do it/scrap it) A Political Party that wont even actively attempt to better the people they represent (Opposition has half the seats) isnt a party I want representing me!
Each to there own though!

Stop right there.
are you comparing a forum, to a television station?
a television station thats funded with tax money and has no commercial incentives...... as biased?
ABC is hands down one of the best tv stations in the world, and i ask you, what do you think is the ABC's core age/sex demographic and then answer me again whether you think it panders to the left.
The point is that Abbots entire political philosophy is buzzwords, catch phrases which can be quickly recorded and played over commercial radio and TV in 5 second clips, only thing is 95% of the time he's talking out his ass or not letting the truth spoil a good story.
For instance this constant attacks about boat people. People with nothing trying to seek ASYLUM in our country, something that they are more then legally able to do. Then we accept a pitiful amount compared to other major county's in the world and send them to places we're they're legally not seen as human being's because we wanna act tough.
all the while ignoring the fact that 95% of all people here (that actually come here illegally) COME IN ON PLANES on visas and NEVER GO HOME.
But those people with rags on there heads and in rickety boats THEY'RE AUSTRALIAS NUMBER ONE ISSUE.
Jesus i wish people weren't so easily mislead and distracted.

No, I used that as an example of how that station facilitates the extremist views of its audience..
I'd hardly call the ABC a station that facilitates for extremist views. You do realise that as a public station it's required to be as impartial as possible. Shows like Media Watch are probably the best example of this. When you look at programs like "A Current Affair" and "Today Tonight", you'd certainly be forgiven for labelling those as facilitating extremist views. Shows like those two pander to the racist, patriot, naive and often 'religiously-tuned'; they focus on emotive stories in order to drum up hatred and anger against a specific minority so as to further the conservative agenda.
