You need to work out how fast you can select your unit, hit B and then click behind your line first. If you have slow reaction times you must select the stalker earlier than someone who has a very fast reaction time. You see the Pros select a single stalker when it's health is well into the red but that's because they click like crazy. I myself will look for the stalkers who have their HP at around about 3/4 or 1/2 and then blink them back, by the time I've actually selected them, hit B and clicked behind the firing line they will be at about 1/4 HP or so.

I think people usually do this when their army might be out of position or on the move before you get the desired arc around an army. Blinking units in the middle backwards allows the rest of your army to spread out and around easier i find from my own experience.
I find with big groups of stalkers boxing a few and Blinking back is easier, but smaller groups when i can keep a closer eye on each stalker single blink micro comes out better. But i think it comes down to your APM and your skill level. As some people have already said Macro is more important. Unless you have oGsMC Blink Micro you may end up wasting APM on it when you could be macroing or doing something else. But it always comes down to the situation you are in.
There are also Custom maps which let you train blink micro might be worth while checking one of those out =D

Blink microing is ALWAYS better if your against zerg, since you want your army to be cost-efficient against them since they have a better economy(most of the time).
Although you have to be ready of macro slipping by having an absurb amount of gateways (8-9 instead of usual 6-7)

If you could out macro a zerg you would be in a better position, I'd like to think anyway =)
